There are too many Christians in Bauchi. I was born and brought up there but I never heard of sharia although it exists. It has nothing to do with you so you don't have to worry. The Muslims there are barely fanatics, the almajiris are the only problem.

P.S: all you need to do is keep an open mind and observe your environ when you get there
