The Department of State Security (DSS) sent its officials to the head office of Pension Commission of Nigeria (PENCOM) to prevent illegal tempering with official documents, a senior official of the agency said.

The security official who spoke in confidence said the agency did not conduct any raid on the commission as speculated.

“We did not conduct any raid on PENCOM office. What we did was to put a standby team at the office to prevent anybody from tampering or altering any document unlawfully or without due process,” the security chief said.

The source said what the intelligence agency did was prevent an act of subversion.

“We got intelligence information that some documents were being tampered with, some documents were being signed and back-dated at the PENCOM office, following the announcement of a new management of the commission,” the security source said.

The DSS is “only being pro-active by ordering all officials there to stop forthwith any action on official documents, pending when the new management will assume duty,” the source said.

The secret service was responding to stories that its officers invaded PENCOM’s head office in Abuja on Friday.

The former PENCOM director-general, Chinelo Anohu-Amazu, was sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari alongside heads of 22 other federal agencies about a week ago.

Spokesman of the commission, Emeka Onuorah, also said he was not aware of any raid on the Commission. And on whether or not Mrs Anohu-Amazu had vacated office, he said he has not been seeing the former DG in the office, but could not confirm if she had handed over.

Nigerians our politicians want to use your pension money to build "Infrastructures". We know our politicians can never be trusted with public money.

Few weeks ago someone on twitter predicted that the woman will be sacked because she rejected that proposal. Right now she's been sacked and told to hand over immediately to her successor.

I don't know why she refused giving up her seat. But as someone explained maybe she needed time to prepare hand over notes of a parastatal like Pencom.

Nigeria politicians are special breed. We should not trust them with our pensions. If they really want infrastructural development, let them pass enabling laws to concession our roads, railways and airports to reputable foreign companies with years of experience.

Bubu, fire them from all angles.
