| Re: Surprising Facts About Ethiopia by Nobody: 12:02pm On Apr 25, 2017 |
fanficgirl:They are lying to you. Raw meat eating had long history in Ethiopia before Ahmad Gragn(gragn means left hand in Amharic) conquest of Abyssinia empire. They only conquered as for 12 years(1531-43). |
| Re: Surprising Facts About Ethiopia by Nobody: 3:09pm On Apr 26, 2017 |
Hati13:Heloo, I have learned that the word Gragn means left hand. Now, please explain what it means to be a Tigragn speaker. Does the left handed meaning apply here too? P.S I am liking Ethiopian history. Sort of like Africa's Ancient Greece. I knew Somalis can't conquer any serious matter given how they disagree with themselves on almost everything. |
| Re: Surprising Facts About Ethiopia by Nobody: 3:47pm On Apr 26, 2017 |
TayserMahiri:- Gragn is a word with no prefix and suffix. - Tigragn is a word with suffix, "-gn"(Tigray). - "gn" is used to refer any languages in Amharic. • For example, Amhargn(Amharic is in English), Oromogn, Guragegn, Somalign and so on.... • Foreign language in Amhargn/Amharic are stated as Englizagn(English), Ferensayegn(French), Germanegn(German) and so on...... We have our own native Fidel's(Alphabet). |

TayserMahiri:LOOOL your mouth o . You just finished them |
| Re: Surprising Facts About Ethiopia by Nobody: 4:52pm On Apr 26, 2017 |
fanficgirl:Lol let me leave them now. We talking Ethiopia here. You asked at what time the tradition was believed to start? Can Ethiopians tell us how they have recorded their history all this time please. Is it through oral stories or in writing? Am not a particular liker of oral stories because they change a lot and can get exaggerated alot. |
| Re: Surprising Facts About Ethiopia by Nobody: 5:13pm On Apr 26, 2017 |
fanficgirl:I don't know the exact range of years, but it was started during the Axum period. The raw meat is not eaten alone. There is a special spice named "Metemeta" along side the raw meat. "Kitfo" is the food of Gurage ethnic people. It can be eaten as a raw or eaten as lightly roasted. The Amhara and Tigray raw meat is a fresh meat with Metemeta(Amharic word). |
| Re: Surprising Facts About Ethiopia by Nobody: 5:23pm On Apr 26, 2017 |
Hati13:What could be the meaning of metemeta? There is a similar swahili meaning shining |
| Re: Surprising Facts About Ethiopia by Nobody: 6:37pm On Apr 26, 2017 |
TayserMahiri:Metemeta is similar to spice, but it's very strong. It's advisable to drink water, because you mouth could be on fire! |
| Re: Surprising Facts About Ethiopia by Nobody: 6:55pm On Apr 26, 2017*. Modified: 9:16am On Apr 27, 2017 |
TayserMahiri:Ethiopia history was transferred from generations to generations through writing texts and oral traditions. Those who were written was wrote in Sabean, Geez, Amharic and Tigragn languages. The Ethiopian history is divided into 3. The ancient history started after the building of states in 1000 B.C. It spanned from 1000 B.C to 1270 A.D. The medieval history started after the restoration of the so called Solomonic Dynasty in 1270 A.D. It spanned from 1270 A.D to 1855 A.D. The modern history started after the end of Zemene Mesafint(era of princess) in 1855 A.D. The modern history is from 1855 A.D to present. |

Hati13:Whoa. Sir ! Am impressed honestly. You mean Ethiopia had states at 1000 BC? Goodness!!! I have been so ignorant of my neigbour, who clearly packs a punch. That makes Ethiopia among the very first human settlement civilizations in the world alongside those of the middle east and far east. I'm so proud of you. |
| Re: Surprising Facts About Ethiopia by Nobody: 7:22pm On Apr 26, 2017 |
TayserMahiri:ET have existed for >3000 years anyone orignated from here including you |
| Re: Surprising Facts About Ethiopia by Nobody: 7:39pm On Apr 26, 2017 |
Ednite:Wow, impressive. In the sense of evolution? |
| Re: Surprising Facts About Ethiopia by Nobody: 7:42pm On Apr 26, 2017 |
TayserMahiri:yes |
| Re: Surprising Facts About Ethiopia by Nobody: 7:43pm On Apr 26, 2017 |
TayserMahiri:Some archaeologists now even are saying that Ethiopia history isn't only about 3000 years, but it was 10,000 years. There are few states that have been found that predates Punt state. |
| Re: Surprising Facts About Ethiopia by Nobody: 7:59pm On Apr 26, 2017 |
Hati13:Please, can you keep us updated with such facts? I have always doubted the western history that seems to suggest Africans never established settled societies until they copied from others. Considering humanity emerged from that part, it just doesn't make any sense. I'm sure many settled societies had emerged in Ethiopia before people moved out of Africa. Once again I'm so glad to learn. |
| Re: Surprising Facts About Ethiopia by Nobody: 8:00pm On Apr 26, 2017 |
Ednite:Awesome, I love evolution. |
| Re: Surprising Facts About Ethiopia by Nobody: 8:37pm On Apr 26, 2017 |
TayserMahiri:I don't think humans had settled before they left Africa. Humans settlement started after the Neolithic revolution(6,000-5,000 B.C). This was the period were they started to know how to farm and domesticate animals, because of this they started to settle down in group and started Civilizations. The saying(European mostly) that African people except Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan and Chartage hadn't had great civilizations is false. Africa was a place for many great civilizations. They can look at Senegal, Ghana, Benin, Nigeria and Zimbabwe..... Ancient Egyptians were definitely mostly black Africans. Some even say that most of the inhabitants of Ancient Egypt are the present day Afar people. I don't know if this is true or not, but there are no concrete evidences to disprove it. A famous traveler said at the peak of Axum kingdom that, the 3 powerful states in the world were Roman, Persian and Axum at that time. |
