With a transport infrastructure gap of great magnitude, Nigeria need more than 10 billion dollar to reach the standard of India 20 years ago.The truth be told our past leaders failed us in the area of transport infrastructure. We need to aggressive develop our railway system which in turn will increase productivity. Haters thinks railway development is akara and pap money.

There is hunger in the land! Government should borrow money to rev up our agricultural sector. Borrowing that huge amount of dollar for a railway transport system that will not transport mass goods from our farmland to reduce hunger in the land is an elitist policy that will draw this Nation close to a REVOLUTION.

As others have mentioned, revitalizing the railways is crucial for the economic health of the nation. My problem is with how this government is planning to carry it out, by borrowing $5.8 billion. What guarantee is there that this money will be efficiently spent on the railways? And once the railway projects have been completed, will they be operated in a self-sustaining manner, and allowed to charge commercially viable rates, or will they continue to be poorly run by the government, like every other Nigerian parastatal in history, e.g. Nigerian Airways, NEPA, NITEL, etc?

What loan?

Former President Jonathan who built Nigeria's first-ever Standard Gauge Rail System from Kaduna to Abuja costing $1.059 billion made no fuss about the project.

The Southsouth and Southeast regions are supposed to have Nigeria's first-ever Standard Gauge rail system if Nigeria is truly a country.

But in FEC Meetings where decisions for projects are taken, the north outnumbers the southeast and southwest and southsouth put together, because of the political over-representation which north draws from the 20 states proliferated in northern Nigeria by northern soldiers.

Land mass was wrongly used as criterion by northern soldiers to create the 36 states, but in a federal country where distinct groups joined to form a federation, land mass is never used as criterion to create new states or provinces from the existing states or provinces.

Very lovely viewpoint but 100 years ( one century) is damn too long & tantamount to slavery to say the very least! Anything between 20 and 35 years should be very ok. Once again, big ups bro! Nigeria needs leaders with good heads like u!

Man G.E going to make a killing off of Nigeria. They were the sole bidder for one of these rail projects. Coastal rail line from Lagos to Calabar will be great for business. I can already see More SW doing more tourism to state.
