Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed in the book, ‘Against the Run of Play: How an Incumbent President was defeated in Nigeria’, written by former presidential spokesman, Segun Adeniyi, that he disapproved of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s decision to make Diezani Alison-Madueke the Minister of Petroleum. Obasanjo also disclosed that from his first days as President, Jonathan showed he was too small for the office. The former President in the book said: “I saw the emergence of Jonathan as an opportunity to solve the problem of minority agitation. The three majority ethnic groups in Nigeria can always sort themselves out but not so for the minority. A good example is my state here in Ogun.



“Despite the best of intentions, nobody from Ogun West has been able to become governor because of this minority issue and it will take a conscious effort to make it happen. So, it was in the context of that I had to plead with prominent people in the North to allow Jonathan run for a term.There were certain decisions taken by Jonathan very early in his administration that pointed to the fact that the office was bigger than him and one of them was the appointment of a petroleum minister.” On Jonathan’s decision to make Diezani the Minister of Petroleum minister, Obasanjo pointed out that, “He(Jonathan) gave me the impression that he was not going to give her the portfolio but at the end he did and we can see the consequence. He, of course, knew what he was doing.”

Obasanjo should have mentioned why he felt she was not fit for the position. He expected he would be the one to handpick for Jonathan after occupying the position himself for 8 years while also the president. In terms of academic qualifications, exposure to the oil and gas industry who amongst the past and even the current man occupying the position is better qualified than Deziani.

Obasanjo is not bold enough to tell Nigerians that he did not support Jonathan go for a second term simply because of the state burial he gave to Ojukwu whom he always saw as his arch enemy and undeserving of such honour and also, not allowing Obasanjo to use him to fight his personal battles and make unneccessary enemies. Very petty old man.

OBJ is the problem of Nigeria. what is he trying to claim, an Oracle? Then he is a failed Oracle.

ThIs book "AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY" is in no doubt sold out. The marketer has seriously played a major role on social media.

You Igbos are an insidious bunch I swear. The sooner they give you your enclave and you let the rest of the country live in peace, the better. What has all these got to do with a long dead inconsequential villain? SMH.

Everyone knows GEJ wasn't prepared to lead a country like Nigeria but you forced him on us feeling like a king maker and then turn against him when he won't be your toy boy.you're Nigeria's no 1 problem
