Good morning Nairalanders, please I need urgent help. My head is banging. I booked 300 Tuns broilers from poultry Plaza on the 18th of April. The birds are not encouraging at all. I give them Topfeed and multivitamins in their water. They were 2weeks old yesterday and they look like 4 days old birds. I did it for 'brood and sell' to sell @2weeks. The customer came this morning and screamed when she saw the birds. That they are mostly cockerels mixed with few broilers. My head is hot. I don't know what to do. Please, have anyone experienced this before? Where you compensated by the farm?

[just pray they are not cockerels. I ordered 50 DOC from blessed tunike only to discover a cockerel among them. My birds will be 3weeks 2mrw. I don't know why this hatcheries are doing all this things to us.
Re: ... by frisky2good(m): 2:16pm On May 03, 2017
What quantity of feed did you give them the first week because the birds in the second picture do not look like cockrels to me. I will advice yo to remain calm. Some birds grow faster than others at first but ultimately all broilers will reach at least 2 kg in 8 - 10 weeks with proper management. Maybe Turks will have something to contribute.

Cockerels is not seen in the pictures. 2 weeks looking like 4 days should be from your management.

I also noticed that my broilers were small in size when I bought them. But they have increased massively in size three weeks after.

I will update with pictures

I think this is as a result of his management. Is this your first cycle? What feed do you use? What quantity of feed do you give? What's the distribution of the feeders and drinkers like? And ultimately, do you give hem at least 23hrs of light? These are values to help us solve this seemingly difficult equation.

Turk, what drugs do you advise one give Pullets in their first week? My brother is getting some pullets tomorrow, and I plan to raise them together with the Noilers I am getting from you. Noilers don't have too much wahala, but I have never raised pullets before. Please, anyone else can also contribute. Thank you.
Re: ... by Turks: 4:00pm On May 03, 2017
Oga Kayode. I'd rather you didn't raise the Pullets with the Noilers. Please raise them separately cos they're similar in color. They might not be distinctive at some point.

Tell your brother to have his supplier give him a chart for his Pullets. How many are they by the way?

They are just 25. Is it just the fact that I won't be able to differentiate them that is the problem? I am sure by two weeks, the Noilers would be a lot bigger the pullets. Anyway, you are the expert, so I would follow what you say.
Re: ... by Turks: 4:19pm On May 03, 2017
Not just the differentiation. It's standard practice not to brood birds from different hatchery/farm in the same brooder. Well, except space is a constraint which shouldn't be so if one aims to become a successful poultry farmer. Reason? Each hatchery comes with a particular disease whether or not we admit it. Imagine birds from different hatcheries coming together with different diseases. It's nothing but a recipe for disaster in my opinion hence my fear.

Day 27
Rcio Gado Super starter 1-16 days
Rico Gado Starter 17-26 days
Hybrid Feed Super Starter Day 27 -

I didnt see Rico Gado Broiler Starter or Super Starter and had to get Hybrid feeds. The woman from Hybrid feeds in Lokoja has gotten the license for Rico Gado in Kogi State. I rank the feed above Hybrid and Vitalfeed in terms of quality.

The feeding seem slower than normal and i think it is the result of the extreme heat these period. Broilers are known to eat less when the weather is hot. There is a rechargeable light for them all through the night.

Its still feasible for him to raise them together but will be better if the pullets are from Amo hatchery. I have seen someone raise layers and noilers together. She colored the noilers with a local paint to differentiate them especially before they attain 4 weeks.

After 4 weeks, the noilers will definitely be easy distinguishable from the pullets as they will be bigger and more mature in look.

Lovely. They look big and healthy. What is the mortality rate so far?

Lost 5 out of 51
5/51 = 9.8%

2 to heat
2 due to immaturity
1 due to dehydration

It's not as a result of poor management. My specialty is brood and sell. Maybe you are seeing the pictures. I have over 15birds looking like ½ day old. They don't even look like cx nor bx. It's exhausting

Try and brood for another one week and sell off. Which hatchery do you normally buy from?
