This government should stop the foolish lies. Even huge organisations like Shell, GE and Total that operate in almost every country don't employ 500,000 people globally. How can a company that is not operational employ up to 500,000 people.

Unless they plan to employ ghost workers who will work from home like the president is doing. smiley smiley

The 500k need not be direct employees.

As long as people are getting employed as a result of the completion of ASCOL, then the action of completing the project created the jobs.

That being said, I must say that number is pretty far fetched. Sensationalidm at its peak.

A result of having politicians in charge.

Shell as huge and global as it is has only about 90,000 - probably less now with all the divestments.

Not only 500,000 they should have made it 1,000,000

Ridiculous lies.
Have you ever heard of what EIA means....(environmental impact assessment).
Employment of 500k is not directly telling you that they will employ 500k directly but they are saying this particular project will provide employment or job opportunities directly or indirectly for the host community and environs....e.g.. more hospitals will be opened there for business since projects is on going there....more food vendors will also opened there people working around there most eat, more infrastructures and building will emerge and even Recharge card vendors will also see the opportunity to sell there cards there because life has resumed in the community the project is going on....
In view of all these...it's not everyone doing business there that is employed by the govt..but the project has created opportunities for business to thrive in the area....trust me chevron, total, total and other big IOC have created millions of jobs in Nigeria and other countries indirectly by the billion dollar projects they execute in this community... it's all about seeing opportunities when the need arises.

[quote author=docky22 post=56257759]Ajaokuta Steel Company 500,000 Upstream & Downstream Employment 2017 – The Federal Government says the first phase of Ajaokuta Steel Company will provide 500,000 upstream and downstream employment when it becomes operational.

Mr Isah Onobere, the Sole Administrator of the company made this known during a media tour to the company on Friday.

Onobere said that the first phase of the plant would also provide direct employment for 10,000 technical staff when inaugurated.

He also said the first phase had been completed, adding that it was envisaged to produce 1.3 million tonnes of liquid steel per annum.

He said that it would cost 400 million dollars to complete Ajaokuta steel, which had reached 98 per cent completion.

According to him, two billion dollars is needed for infrastructure rehabilitation and operational cost.

He said that government had begun to commit resources toward the maintenance and preservation of the equipment and facilities of the plant recently and called for improved efforts.

According to him, government is considering the report on various options on the way forward for the completion of the project.

These options he said include outright sales, concessioning and joint venture of Ajaokuta steel.

He, however, denied rumour about the company equipment being obsolete, adding that the company, with 98 per cent completed, could stand test of time, adding that all its equipment were functioning appropriately.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the then President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, laid the foundation of Ajaokuta in 1980 and within four years, it attained was 84 per cent completion.

Ajaokuta steel company is located on 24,000 hectares of sprawling green-field landmass built on 800-hectares of land.

It is Nigeria’s leading steel company and intended to be the leading supplier of quality steel products in all the major economic sectors, including construction, packaging, wire drawing and nail making industry among others.

But he was wrong all it will take is just a man with conviction. A man of CHANGE, A man like BUHARI

God BLESS PMB
God BLESS NIGERIA

The question is what is holding the company from completion and if it eventually got completed will it be cost effective to operate. Those are the basic questions, buaring more than two billion dollars in renovation is a pointer to the fact that we are dealing with a white elephant project.

You read what you wanna read maybe you just have problem understanding what you read. Did you miss the part he said ajaokuta only needs 400million dollars to complete it.

The $2billion you are crying about is for infrastructure which include rail for transport, good roads, power for the community, schools and medical centers so shut the ur pseudo intellectual up

You don't know what that Ajaokuta steel rolling mill is.
If Nigeria succeed in getting that mill to fly, this country will make cheap cars.
That mill is very vital to the economic advancement of this country, the economic powers that be have done everything they can to sabotage this project.

It means so many industries and their subsidiaries will be established to employ people.
Niger Dock alone has over ten thousand employees before the recession, imagine many companies like this coming on board because of this steel rolling mill.

Delta Steel has been concessioned already from what I can tell. This plant maybe ready before Ajaokuta Steel undecided. Stay updated. Get a Google alert of something on Delta Steel company news.

The resuscitation process of the moribund Delta Steel Company, Ovwian-Aladja is in top gear, as electricity power has been restored to the plant. The new investors, Premium Steel and Mines Limited (PSML), are working round the clock to ensure the plant is restored to production level.

It must be privatised in one form or another otherwise it would simply be a cash cow for government employees who would ultimately run it to the ground.

Na our way.
It has already been privatised, but the privatisation exercise was fraught with all sorts of issues. The company that bought it over, engaged in asset stripping instead of reviving the plant. They even dragged the FG to court. The case has been dragging for years... angry
