A tradition called Ukuli Bula took place in Ethiopian in which women are flogged as a way to show the sacrifice they make for men. Women are said to beg men to flogged them in the open square. Members of the Hamar tribe in Ethiopia believe the elaborate scars demonstrate a woman’s capacity for love. This ceremony is usually done when a young male in a family is ripe enough to marry. The women in the family come out to be flogged as rite of passage before the boy can marry. That isn’t the only task.
