To all prospective corp members that will be posted to serve in Rivers state, let me tell your few things that you may need to know about Permanent NYSC camp located at Nonwa Gbam, Tai Local Government.

Nonwa Gbam Tai Orientation Camp is located in Tai local government of Rivers State, where you will be camped for the first 3 weeks (21 days). It has a very good and serene environment, about 30 minutes’ drive from Port Harcourt City.

THE STRUCTUREs

The orientation camp is well layout with very conducive hostels for the male and female corp members with adequate supply of water and light.

Registration Hall

The Registration hall is where all registration activities will be conducted and also lectures and competitions will be held in this hall. The Miami market also has varieties of food stuff available, if you are not satisfied with the meals you will be served in the camp kitchen, depending on the size of your purse.

Muslim Mosque, Adjacent to the Registration hall

Camp Clinic

Other facilities in the camp includes Kitchen/Dinner hall, Camp clinic, Mosque and Churches.

REGISTRATION

Your registration starts right from the main entrance where you will be checked for dangerous and sharp objects, then you will proceed to the pavilion where you will be allocated into a hall, afterwards you will proceed to the dinner hall/store to possess a mattress and get a bunk in the hall you were allocated to you.

You are expected to keep all your luggage’s safe in the hostel before you proceed to the camp clinic where you will check if you are fit or not fit before you will be allowed to register.

After passing the clinic stage, you are to proceed to the registration hall with all your print-out and necessary documents where you will be duly registered as a prospective corp member, before you proceed to the church hall beside the registration hall for all your camp accessories (khaki, White Short and so on).

Life as a Rivers corper starts…

The annoying sound of the bugle and Camp whistle blowers (Man O wars) by 5 am in the morning, for the morning drills to the registration hall for lectures.

Platoon 2 Go down…. RSM

LIFE

After collection of your accessories, it is mandatory for you to put on the white on white camp uniform and always doubling up (joggling and running around), attend all camp proceedings both morning dew and evening drills.

NYSC camp without you engaging in any activities on camp is waste, so for your own good, participate in camp activities you can find suitable to you.

Orientation Broadcasting service (OBS), Platoon Executives, Parade group, Man o war, the Born Rugged, Red Cross, Camp band, Drama group, Social group are some the groups you can join to engage you in more activities.

You are all welcome to the treasure base of the Nation.

How about the Gbenemene Tuatua? And there used to be a toilet further down that clinic block? Lived on that clinic block for 21 days with some of the craziest negroes from IMSU. #iRepTwoPlatoon

Blessed are those who seek haven in the mammy markets.

Blessed are those who know they enjoy the benefit thereof while it lasts.

It also helps to brush up graduates' spoken and written English. Especially when you missed English classes in secondary school or GNS classes in tertiary. Personally years back, when I was serving, my lines and words became more accurate. Thanks to NYSC. grin grin grin grin grin

Good to see that the mosque is completed, we really tried to get it done in 2013. Besides, Rivers state is my second home, as a lagos breed I got myself a lot of friends from Non wa gbam, to Eleme,Rumuola,Rumuigbo,Rumuokoro. I really had a nice time as it was my first time out of Lagos.

Quite comprehensive.

Are you just going for NYSC or about to conclude? Your next step to getting that juicy job is with how you package your academic history. At this point, strive to write your CV or get it written for you as early as possible. Don't wait until you're through with your service. These CV Samples should be of help to you: www..com/cv-samples/

Be prepared.

to add one MORE thing to OP write up

Cultism is rife in Rivers state,so to at least stay safe, try as much as possible to work your PPA to Phalga/obio-Akpor...

Then if you want to enjoy while in these two places, finally push it to any of the armed forces..

I.e...Navy(wonderful experience)
Airforce (same here)
Army. (same here)

police (little comfortable bt peaceful)

One good thing abt these aforementioned PPAs, is that u ll ve steady flow of MONEY especially NAVY and AIRFORCE without touching your Alawee

To all PCMs coming to RIVERS STATE,I wish you all safe stay.....

##I rep NIGERIAN NAVY PPA...2015 batch

Currently serving in rivers state.... (batch b stream 2)... The most annoying part of this state is that they don't pay state allowance, we only depend on the 19800....when I was posted to rivers state, I was kinda happy, knowing that after Lagos and Abuja, we have rivers, cos I know rivers to be a wealthy state, but after I received my PPA letter (that's after the 3weeks orientation camp) and moved to my PPA, I just started blaming myself why I choose rivers state... because I was posted to a remote and deserted riverine area, where much activities do not occur, the only set of Corp members that will enjoy their service year are the one posted to places like portharcourt, obiakpor, bori e.t.c and some that are posted to private schools, I guess the private school do pay them, but if you are posted to a riverine area, my brother u are on ur own o, na there u go spend all ur alawee finish.... As a street boy, I just try to make my self happy, by making things happen.... Good luck to Corp members posted to rivers state....
