Brief history of osumenyi town

Osumenyi is a very rich town in Nnewi South Local Government area of Anambra State, Nigeria. It is located about 30 kilometers from Awka, the state capital and about 15 kilometers from Nnewi Town. It shares boundary with Ekwulumiri, Unubi,and Ogbedi on the East, on the Southern end it is bordered with Akwalhedi and Ezinifite while she is bordered to the west by Ebenato and Utuh. To the the North is Amichi.
Osumenyi people are peaceful and kind people and live in peace and harmony with its neighbors. But never fail to defend its territory against any foreign invaders or aggression. He begot many children whose names make up the villages in Osumenyi.
The villages are:
1. Akabo
2. Obiuno
3. Ebenator
4. Umuka
5. Oiikpi
6. Okohia
7. Umuomam
8. Ocho
9. Enubio
10. Amihie
11. Amakom
12. Ojieku
13. Umeugo
14. Obiohia
All the villages made up the two council ward in Osumenyi known as Ward I and Ward II.
Osumenyi formally occupies the large area east of Eke Osu market close to Unubi and Ogbedi. This land was later reserved for farming and hunting up till date.
Osumenyi market day is Eke and her popular market is EKE OSU. It is a stand head and shoulder above every other market in her environs and towns. It is obviously the largest market in Nnewi South Local Government Area.
It also has other markets like Center market, and Orie-Odikpi. Eke market serves as a rallying point for the people of Osumenyi and outside world as people all the way from Imo state, Abia state, Enugu state down to Delta state and Edo state patronize this market.
Osumenyi is blessed with 5 springs namely Ochi, Ngwuja, Nwota, Ahamamiori and Igiwoku springs all of which flow into Ugwu stream connecting to Ulasi river.

At the end of his tenure Chief S. N. Ukakwukwu became the next president-general. His administration was marred by crises which led to the dissolution of the OSUMENYI TOWN ASSEMBLY and new town union was born in 2008 called OSUMENYI DEVELOPMENT UNION. This new union was born out of the zeal of the people of Osumenyi to continue with the spate of their development. The new town union was duly registered with C.A.C Abuja and Anambra state government and certificate and letter of recognition was issued respectively.
Dr. Ifedi Okwena J. P. became the next President-General of Osumenyi under the new name Osumenyi Development Union. His tenure was cut short following his appointment as a commissioner of environment by the Anambra state government.
Sir Gilbert Nwaikwu (Late) became the next President-General. His tenure was also cut short due to ill-health.
Chief C.L.c. Akunadoziobi (Enyioha) became the next President-General of Osumenyi Development Union. At his inception he called for peace and forgiveness to any aggrieved member. He promised to transform Osumenyi into one of the best town in Nnewi South and its environ. He called on the all the sons of Osumenyi especially the wealthy ones to join hands in developing Osumenyi. He was kind, amiable and generous. He displayed this by offering forty-five people scholarships to university level. The election that brought him and his exco into office was the first to be supervised by the Anambra state government and duly inaugurated in Awka by the governor. His administration was one of the best ever witnessed in Osumenyi. He was assassinated by wicked men who do not want good thing in Osumenyi. He was mourned for several days by the people of Osumenyi and Osumenyi Development Union. His statue was placed at the centre of the town and a road named after him. A memorial lecture was instituted in his name (C.L.C Akunadoziobi memorial lecture). Today he is gone but the transformation he proposed has taken place in Osumenyi and his memory shall forever remain in our hearts. His assistant Bro. Celectine Obiogutu became the next President-General and is efficiently pioneering the affairs of Osumenyi till date.

ABOUT OSUMENYI
Osumenyi is One of the towns in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State of Nigeria.She is located at south west of the local Government Area. Osumenyi formally occupies the large area east of "Eke-Osu market" sharing common boundaries with Ekwulummili, Unubi and the area presently called Ogbodi. On the southern end, the boundaries are with Akwaihedi and Ezinifite, while she is bordered to the west by Ebenator and Utuh. To the north is Amichi. Osumenyi is accessible from all corners, it is some thirty two kilometers to Awka(State capital) through Igboukwu, about eight kilometer to Uga in Aguata Local Government Area.
Osumenyi is a flat land that is slightly devoted at the center. The eastern and south-eastern part have a kind of low lands that have springs which are Ochi, Ngwuaja,Nwota, Ahamammiri and Iyinwoku spring, all of which flow into Ugwa stream, connecting ulasi river, Ezinifite town. Osumenyi town is beautified with natural green trees that shade the quiet village life from the blazing effect of the sun. Among the common trees are Palm oil trees, Rubber trees, Iroko trees and many other fruits yielding trees.
Osumenyi has two major seasons, the Wet and Dry season. The Dry season is from November to April and Harmattan from December to February' while Rainy season is from may to
October. Geographically therefore, the climatic condition of the town is conducive to both animals and plants for their growth.Also human habitation is assured.

OP thanks for the job well done but i must tell you in as much that every osumenyi appreciate your work you are sentimental about this your post issue of OSUMENYI DEVELOPMENT UNION (ODU) and OSUMENYI TOWN ASSEMBLY (OTA) which is the name of the town union known to me since the the day i was born. forming a new town union known as ODU even if you like invite donald trump is baseless what we need is a lasting peace in our town. i can tell you as far as osumenyi is concern we dont regard town union we believe on massive individual contribution what we can contribute to make our great town better even in the face of crises we are more develop than our neighbouring town in our LGA. peace paramount issue for us to achieve we have many group ready to contribute there resource to achieve the peace.
