Typical entry level salaries at that time were between 200 and 500 naira a month so work out what percentage of your disposable income then and now goes to NEPA/DISCO to determine whether you are getting a better or worse deal viz the quality of services....which have not improved over that timescale whatsoever.

Things cannot be like they used to be.

We're moving on, can't compare 80's to now.
Exactly, i'm wondering what the point of the thread is in the first place? within 2 decades prices will spring up, same way we cannot use today to judge tomorrow's standards.

I was looking for a document in my father's wardrobe, when I came across this NEPA bill

I was shock when I read the contents of the bill

We were paying as low as 12kobo per month and as low as 20naira yearly in 1984

While we are now paying as low as 5000naira monthly now, in the same house

Though I know we can't compare things then with now, but still Nigeria is not be getting better, it's getting worse especially 2016/2017

Infact Nigeria has really CHANGED
!

the house is still better than most of those houses they are constructing nowadays
Maybe......that's If your father is the owner of the house! Cos staying in a particular rented house from 1984 till this moment is not it at all!!...

In 1984, appliances such as hot plates, DVD home theater, flat screen tvs and air conditioners were not used. It was your light bulb, fan and music player. If you were lucky a small black and white tv. The average energy consumption has gone up all over the world so the 5000 that you are paying is a reflection of the amount of energy consumed. If you want to save yourself unneeded headache, get a prepaid meter, that is when you'll thank the lord for using that 5000 Naira to cover your yansh grin grin grin

No difference at all! Things have always been this bad. I am a Nigerian, born and bred in Nigeria. I know Nigeria in 1988 and I know Nigeria today.

op, based on forex exchange then and now, its about the same.

1984 $1 = N1
2017 $1= N400

You'll get around same figures.

This is just my simple analogy, not an economist, but I think it makes a little sense. However things can never ever be compared now to those days in whatever way, form or shape.

I can recall the first ever blackout I experienced .

It was in the year 1984 .Blackouts have been around since 1978.

NEPA was bad in those days. We used to call them never expect power always.
