And this is the University some dudes are comparing to OAU? I thought only up-coming private Unis are the ones normally faced with such embarrassing fate of disacreditation. Well, I pray UI gets out of the wood.

Stfu! Ui is by far a better Institution than Oau....Like we havent seen that sty you guys stay in.

It is obvious Pharmacy is no more lucrative in the West as everyone there either patronizes Agbo, herbalists, Alfas, Mallams, Prophets or Chemists.

Exactly what happens Nursing science department at Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma. The Nursing programme doesn't have accreditation from Nursing and midwifery council of Nigeria, yet the university goes on every year to admit students into their programme.

The department doesn't have a single professor but got accreditation from NUC. As I talk to you now, they are yet to have any set sit for their professional exams.
so bad!!!

What is in OAU?

Courses who's accreditation status read: Up to date. The faculty of pharmacy, OAU is the first of its kind in sub-sahara Africa.

That must be the reason why a 5 year programme exceeds 8 years and nothing good has recently been coming from the institution except echo of industrial action. A UI is ten time better than any OAU.

I was at this department last year to get distilled water and to my surprise I was told boldly that the equipment is faulty, I asked when can I come back, I was told not in the nearest future.

Have you been to OAU before? That phrase "by far" is fallacious. In my own view, there's really no difference between UI and OAU. Are you aware OAU has the first pharmacy school in Nigeria and West Africa and most of the Pioneer lecturers and profs of pharmacy in UI are/were OAU products?

You need not argue with me because I know much about both schools and besides, I'm a UIte also, a katangite (Indy Hall) to be precise.

When it comes to accreditation of courses in Nigerian universities, any public university can be denied because no university is a "saint" in this regard (including OAU). Are you aware that some departments in OAU were also given interim accreditation status during the last exercise in OAU and if care is not taken, some may lose theirs when next the accreditation team visits? Remember, OAU Law once lost its accreditation.

What is not clear to you guys is that our public universities are grossly underfunded and many programs do no longer meet the basic requirements for accreditation. Private unis are not exempted either but they have a way of making it up with the accreditation team so they can get their full status. Remember, they must continue to admit into various programmes so they can stay in business and keep the university running. The NUC and their accreditation team take advantage of this to engage in corruption with any institution to be accredited. Corrupt practices on the part of those private unis and the visiting team are largely the reason they are given full accreditation status while older unis are denied. Our public unis feel non challant about this since their salaries will continue to run anyway, and are not being paid from school fees.

But the question is, should this continue in Nigerian universities? Isn't that NUC due for restructuring and maybe scrutiny? Is Nigeria jazzed with corruption that the ivory towers are neither exempted but are now nursery grounds for future corrupt leaders?
