Nimi Princewill is an example of an educated illiterate.
Nimi says
Recruitment at the banking sector nowadays, continue to amaze us, as almost anybody can be hired for banking duties regardless of his or her course of study. A good zoology degree (added with some wits and 'street smarts') can set the ball rolling to a terrific career at the banking hall! Despite this shift from the norm, a lot of Nigerians still troop en masse to pursue a degree in banking and finance, disregarding the least patronized courses which could be of more value to them and the nation.
He/she then goes on to say,
As Nigeria prepares for life outside oil, we must begin to nurse the adolescent areas of our economy into adulthood. We need a new wave of certified professionals in agriculture, ICT, theatre arts (to reignite the creativity in our promising entertainment industry), tourism/hospitality, marketing/business administration (which is cardinal for entrepreneurship), fashion/graphic designing, etc
The question is if a Zoology person can work in the bank, does studying law/banking and finance stop a person from acting/singing or owning a farm?

You should have joined the army you have become a military administrator and later a president like bubu. babs and obj.

All those who studied law ended up becoming commissioners , which is not good.

Some people are just here to male themselves feel better about whatever shorty courses they got stuck with.

The idea that every lawyer practices law in its stroct sense is archaic, of every 100 lawyers you see, less than thirty actually practice.

The majority implement their knowledge of law on other facets of life. There is NO establishment that operates without the input of a legal team, which needs lawyers.

The idea that any random farmer or computer scientist is equipped with appropriate knowledge of law is ridiculous.

Most law students just want to get a PROFESSIONAL degree so they do not end up being dependent on one oga who may choose to sack them the day his wife forgets to service him.

Finally @OP, in today's word, skills get you to the top, so be you a lawyer, educationist, doctor, accountant, political scientist, sociologist, you need skills to make it, not a useless piece of paper
What types of skills pls?

You're ready for the bar. You are really fluid.

Goddys:
it is a pity how some ignorami are exposing their ignorance on the relevance of law as a profession in the society.
Some areas of practice are within the exclusive reserve of legal practitioners and can never be replaced by modern softwares.
Law profession is a noble calling.
I'm yet to see a lawyer who knows his onions and suffers penury.
I'm presently in law school and there are briefs floating over my head which will be crystallized as soon as I'm called to the bar.
@ Op, speak for yourself and do not speak for lawyers

[quote author=hunniebun post=57034034]very true, those courses are just overrated and they don't earn a lot.
law aspirants won't get admission yearly all because of they want to be called barristers!

if I were a science student I would have gone for Agriculture[/quote
I smell jealousy.

Re: We Don't Need More Lawyers/Banking, Finance Graduates In Nigeria: Nimi Princewil by kindredspirit(m): 12:58pm On May 31, 2017
The OP concluded that if you studied Law or a Banking/Finance you are condemned to working in a Law firm and a Bank, respectively.

Wrong, if you ask me. If a Zoology graduate can work in a Bank, ridding the Banking/Finance graduates of Bank jobs, surely the Banking/Finance graduate can also chase other jobs outside of Banking, in competition with professionals of those other sectors. Same thing with Lawyers. They are not shackled with a Ball and chain to Law firms.

It just simple law of demand and supply. The higher the number of graduates the lesser the demand for them. It's not just restricted to law and banking graduates but all courses. A time is coming when nursing and medicine will not be relevant because of more applicant and graduates
The time has already come.
It is presently very difficult finding job or internship placement for medical practitioners.

The best areas right now are: agriculture, IT, pharmacy and education.
And the best attitude right now is for all new graduates to have a plan of how to set up private businesses/practice.

The writer himself is still missing the point, he was getting it right until he went totally off point contradicting himself. Except "agriculture" none of the above industries creates original wealth. Wealth comes from mining the soil, felling the trees, fishing the seas. Wealth comes from exploiting nature. Therefore, what we should be paying attention to in school is the study of nature- SCIENCE.

Tourism/hospitality, marketing/business administration, fashion/graphic designing that the writer cited as alternatives are still same arts, they remain industries funded by wealth created by exploiting nature. In order to understand this; take a look at the maps below I just made, one representing ART COUNTRY and the second representing science nation.

It doesn't matter how small the SCIENCE COUNTRY, the art country would always import her needs from the science country. The art country would remain an importing nation, until they learn science. This's our situation in Africa as a whole.

Lol. You are wrong. In the north, the ratio of patient to doctor is 1:100,000. That's too poor.

Poor people! Too much konji leads to too many children, then too many young adults including graduates, salary depressed due to supply of labour significantly outstripping demand, bad working conditions, tyrannical employers................and so the cycle continues.
