SirShymexx: Why do you like mentioning me everywhere, after I told your homoerotic arse to stay away from me, flaming faggit?
Matter of fact, I'm in Peckham right now (I came to get some food from my mum's yard) and some teenager got stabbed to death yesterday night. That would be you, if and when I see you with ya homoerotic fantasies. Nyggah you're a faggit and I don't fvck with dyck in the booty crack heads. When I see you, I'll shank all ya face and give you those tiger claws tribal marks before knocking ya arse out cold.
You clowns take yourselves seriously like people from Peckham care about what you think. I've got Peckham tatted on arm and when I see you, I'll show you what the real Peckham is like - not the Rye Lane bs you lot love to talk about. The real Peckham - home of the real Gs.
Keep my name out of ya mouth. Peckham is Peckham - the place no Narm head will ever deny. You get reps for being from Peckham in London Town cos no place ever did it like Peckham boys. That's a fact.

What touched me most deeply in the entire article is the quote:
"If a language dies, so does the human spirit. A people without a culture will lose their self respect."
This is a most profound statement. Many Nigerians, at home and in the diaspora try as much as possible to emulate the western culture, ignorantly assuming that it will make them appear 'posh' and 'classy'. They don't realise that if the Westerners despised their own culture the way Nigerians do theirs, we won't even have a culture to emulate.
I have been speaking with a client who insists on being more American than the average American. When we talk on phone he introduces himself as Mr Yuuummy (Yomi). He speaks with an exaggerated American accent, even though his 'Yoruba-tic' intonation still manages to burst though. When I met him one to one I was unimpressed because of his whole fakeness. These kinds of Nigerians will go to Europe and the Americas and be more native than the aborigines.
Is it inferiority complex? A lack of self respect brought about by the despising of their own unique culture? You go London and instantly forget you're a Nigerian. Your children grow up to see themselves as English people because you have made sure they see their roots as 'inferior'.
Your culture is what makes you stand out from the average Joe. Own it. Be proud of it. Fly the flag wherever you find yourself outside the shores of Nigeria.
Just don't fly the flag and disgrace us sha. Our rep is already bad enough as it is.
U deserve bottles of beer, but u are not a guy. Thumbs up
We need to pass the language from generation to generation.... It is even more sad when children that were born in Nigeria can't even speak their local language... Parents beware
Lol what an irony. They will castigate Nigeria at the drop of a hat but once they move outside her shores they recreate Nigerian lifestyle in their adopted countries, smh
lepasharon: Hmm..so how many encounters with the police have you had..wetin you do?
Never had any encounter with them . A police man greeting you does not mean you have done something wrong or does it? Truth is that there are 2 many nigerians there in peckam.
How can the Africans at home rebel when many of them don't know better? It's what the media feeds to them that they swallow, which is why the government mandated 60:40 local content broadcasts in Nigeria.
Africans who go abroad fall into different categories, one of them I've mentioned in my post while another category are those who go abroad and have the spirit of Nationalism awakened in them. You go, realise that white is not superior after all and spiritually go back to your roots.

lepasharon: lol blame games. It would make sense that those back home would be more rebelious? Isnt it disgraceful. So what exatly did you mean by saying diasporans like to imitate western cultures? Most women in nigeria are bald-headed, cos they know nothing of their natural hair care. Wheareas diasporans love and embrace theirs so it thrives and grows. You lot are quick to dismiss african religions as juju and witchcraft without knowing a thing. Diasporans are eager for the knowledge.
Ur post was patronising and inaccurate Why exactly do you lot look down on others when you all should be ashamed of urselves
oh btw, no Nigerian in london sees themselves as english ... dont be silly
wrong. i see myself as english. when you get behind the etymology of words you find out they dont mean what you think they mean. england means LAND OF ANGELS. english means ANGELIC MAN. i am english. i am an angelic man. an angel is a cosmic messenger. ETYMON mate
although i submit that that nigga shymmexx can never be english. he is a proper ijebu man who eats hydraulic soup
claremont: Culture is fluid, it isn't static. There is a strong correlation between cultural integration by immigrants and career success, immigrants who cling on to their own cultures and refuse to integrate with others are overwhelmingly the same people who end up with unskilled jobs. This is a fact. My point remains - an immigrant who considers his/her culture so important that they choose not to imbibe the culture of their host country is better off going back to his/her own country. There is no way a successful immigrant will not imbibe aspects of the culture of the country that has made him/her a success, even Wole Soyinka speaks with a foreign accent.
i will tell you a very peculiar case. i find very peculiar the case of hakeem olajuwon. this nigga has been in america for 40 years and his accent is thicker than a bus conductor in oshodi lmao. that nigga refuse to change. too black too strong
Before I travelled to the United Kingdom I had heard a lot of stuff in naija about Peckham that it was a ghetto but when I went to Peckham it didn't look like a ghetto to me. Peckham ain't bad. It's Homerton that looked like a ghetto to me.

chimamanda went to the USA at 19, still has a Nigerian accent.

is this a case of misinformation or superiority complex?
