Their mothers and fore mothers did it and endured so they see no problem in doing it. Afterall isnt it the same excuse Nigerian men give to abused wives? They claim their mothers and their mother's mothers endured so therefore, wives of today should not seek to change anything they should sit and endure just like generations before them did. Same excuse those women and men who give young kids away in marriage would say.

Prophet Mohammed (peace be unto him), who is considered by many people to be the best and most noble man to walk this earth married his child-bride Aisha when she was just six years old and slept with her when she turned nine. Clearly, this twelve year old girl had it better than Aisha.
