I beg to disagree. Yoruba Muslims have always been known to be tolerable and balanced. It is however very unfortunate that some element have been brainwashed to preach hatred and terror within our midst.
we are saying the same thing

This is one of the biggest crimes Madam DSA has committed.

This is a university not primary school. even secondary school students have free periods. Not everyone is comfortable with the way of life their roommates lead. So instead of wasting time gisting in the halls they spend their free time in the mosques.

I wonder why people are so gullible to accept her flimsy claims.
Were those places built to be named mosques? You are just too biased and lack all it requires to live in a decent environment.

Your group has been kind of nuisance all this while.
Why must any group of people disturb other students in the hall of residence? Can you do such in a civilised country?

Be there saying all gibberish to incite your colleagues so as to cause problems in the university. Violence seems to be in your religion.

Huh, we always allow sentiments to cloud our reasoning, living in the hostel simply means u will av roommates, so if u know u are not comfortable having roommates, u shouldn't av gotten accommodation in the hostel in the first place, there are thousands accommodation around the school dat u can comfortably live.
The reality is not every student cab afford the cost of renting a room off campus, then the cost of transport.

I spent nothing less than four sessions in Awo hall, I had roommates who had no pots, mattress, plates and many basic necessities.

And staying off campus needs extra effort to remain focused on studies and be informed of latest updates regarding class, test and exam fixtures and re-fixtures.

Believe me, not everyone has equal temper. When issues go out of hand, even the excos will not be able to control the angry students. I've seen it several times, the leaders of the students are the ones calming the masses and striving to settle the issues with diplomacy. There are people who can slap the chief Imam if not for the efforts of the Muslim students excos, the security department knows this and have always urged the excos to keep up the good work.

So if a student doesn't av money to stay off campus, he/she should make do wit d so called inconveniences in the hostels, u don't expect a room where u av more than 5 occupants to be comfortable like ur room at home. I spent 3 sessions at Awo Block 1, a session at Awo Annex and some months at PG hall, so i went thru d disturbance too and i don't av a mosque i go to in d hostel to relax.....Those cafeteria have been converted to student mosque for years and it wasn't demolished, so for the school to take such step now, there must be a reason.....

as an alumnus of OAU it's not a bad decision. no religious body should make halls of residence there place of worship. Muslims, Christians and traditionals live in these halls. let every body go out of the residence to worship...

"I have visited many Universities in the Northern Muslim dominated part of the country and seen the Christians enjoy an undivided fundamental freedom to exercise their religious duties." I see this quoted statement as a very big lie.

Don't you Sunni Muslims oppress the Shiites your fellow Muslims?
Must you insult? How Christ like are you based on your response to me?

I was responding to someone who claimed Christians don't oppress Muslims. Thank God you agree with me Christians do. Acknowledging a problem is the first step in resolving it. Don't wait for Sunni Muslims who you believe are going to hell before working on your own shortcomings. Who told you am a Sunni Muslim?

The issue is only Muslims are affected. If the decision had been applied to all, no problem

I believe the Christian body pay to the school management before they could have access to these facilities, I mean the lecture halls.
Also, I see this as a good move by the management of Obafemi Awolowo University because all these religious activities in the hall of residence affects some students most especially during exams period but they may not be able to voice out cos it's a tradition they met at the on campus.
There were churches that also pay to use the Hall of residence for their religious activities on OAU Campus and I believe this move will affect them too. We should not let our mind be cripple with our religious belief. Let's try Objectivity on this one and also we should use an open mind to address the issue.

Great Ife!!!

# Even a blind man can easily see you are too biased in this one-sided report. And that is how people like you incite hatred and cause religious fracas.

# Knowing your intolerable and extremist character, I can never believe whatever you've cooked up there until I read the other two party's reports (that of the Christian, and school authority) on the cause of the incidence or at least a moderate sensible Muslim report.

# On a side note; Is your creed not always maintain that you cannot revolt or complain against the authority no matter what their decision is?! Why should you table your grievances?

The SW have realised the scam of a religion there were sold.

Next action by the universities should be to cut off any external party that WILL come to interfere because of this 'victim-playing'.

Simple instruction- do not bring your religion into the halls.

Did Christians have permanent churches in the halls of residence dat it will affect them? Wat odas have in the halls of residence are secretariats and the MSSN also have there own secretariat like odas which was not revoked from them and they are still using it. So where is your point?
Re: OAU DSA Suspends All Religious Activities In Halls Of Residence (PICS) by jonbellion(m): 11:30am On Jun 05, 2017
Newnas:
The Obafemi Awolowo University Department of Student Affairs (OAU DSA) today 4th of June 2017 made a special release stating that all religious activities should be suspended in the halls of residence.
The release also commanded all students to either pray in their rooms or go to the religious ground.

The "Special Release" which was all in upper case read thus:

"This is to bring to the attention of all students that all religious activities is hereby suspended in halls of residence until further notice.

Any student that fails to comply will face immediate disciplinary action which may include revocation of studentship and expulsion.
Students are advised to pray in their individual rooms or move to the religious centre"

The DSA has wasted no time in executing this new order. There are reports that some members of the DSA and school security went to the two major hall mosques (Awolowo hall mosque and Fajuyi hall mosque) and destroyed all the temporary structures in it after sending the Students out of them.

The religious centre is fifteen to twenty minutes walk from the 'Awo' hall which is the most populated hall of residence on campus. Taking such a walk five times daily might be more of difficulty than ease for most Muslim students and many Muslim students have seen it as an attempt to stop them from observing their daily prayers.

However, there have been no reports of similar demolitions in any of the several 'hall' secretariats allocated the Christian fellowships.

It should be remembered that G.O Akinola, the Dean of the DSA has not been the best friend of the Muslim students since her arrival in office.
She once called the hall mosques a brothel.Could this be a 'diplomatic' step she is taking to eliminate those "brothels" from the school.

There have been claims and accusations of a 'christianization' agenda going on in the school, with the faculty of pharmacy not having any Muslim lecturer and many departments having just one or two Muslim lecturers.

Pics attached for further details.

If the school authority really wants to be just, no Christian fellowships should be given any space in the lecture theatres, any student that dares to use the lawns and basketball courts for prayer too should all be expelled. There should be no one going from room to room and trying to preach.

The truth is this law is completely inconsistent with our way of life. If this laws were enforced on Christians half as it is enforced on Muslims. I'm sure it would be unbearable for them. But it's all a matter of double standard as it has always been at the micro and macro levels.

all i can say is that all those that have been commenting here just jump into conclusion without verifying. its really obvious to those on campus that all those allegations by the DSA were untrue.
for the closure of the mosque is just the repercussion of the mis understanding between muslim students and CHIEF IMAM. any one that think other wise should check his/her skull

The author of this post is such a petty human being.
It is legitimately within the power and right of the school authority to evict students that have converted university property to private property for the purpose of religion. Islam in particular. You're almost not going to find any Christian association who is guilty of this. The Christian students have relocated their religious meeting points to the constituted location. It's just a few muslim students who have refused to move to the mosque built for the muslims on campus.

You cannot take over university property, even veil some women and permanently imprison them on such university property, and now cry foul when the university decides to evict you guys.

Also, religion never features during employment interview. If you feel there is need to have more muslim staff members in pharmacy or any other faculty, simply have such muslims who can qualifiably be employed...have them apply whenever there are vacancies. It is only when such individuals, who have outperformed their non-muslim colleagues, are turned down that you are allowed to cry foul.

I haven't seen you accepting any laws without crying wolf. In similar situations when pastors were banned from showing miracles on national TV, they didn't complain and call names, they went to establish theirs.

You haven't been prevented from having a secretariat in the hall of residence.
I also support the ban of any religious activities in the lecture theatres and fields. Have you forgotten how you and Christians disturb other students very early in the morning in the hall of residence.
Religion is affecting us negatively

You always think everything is against you whenever your excessiveness is being checked. I'm very sure you know that if Christians were given the order, they would comply without complaints.

Then, I can't forget Awo hall mojo saga.

My advice is to always ready to adjust and stop blame game

I spent over half a decade on that campus. throughout my stay there, there was never a time that any law which would affect the Christians negatively was made. Don't be sure of what you have no certain knowledge of.

I saw it coming. But this OP is wrong in many ways. He wants to start religious conflict in a peaceful intellectual community. The presence of the chief Imam nullified your claims.
The Christian body has been facing similar harrassments from Omole tenure till now. But when you guys hear that, you would say ''allahu akbar'', victory for islam. Are you not enjoying your victory anymore. I shake my head.
The school mgt has dealt with the SU, religious bodies which is another strong body of students due to faith attachment is the next on the agenda.
So, stop spreading conflict triggering post and face reality.
