TPAND:By declaring some forests and trees sacred, our forefathers were able to conserve biodiversity, with its intricate species without a break of sweat. Something we are preaching, clamouring for and spending a lot to achieve today. So get knowledge, and in your getting, get understanding. Our people were/are not silly. |

Trees are life givers, but if it is getting in the way of road construction that will obviously bring more light to the people,it has to go. People should be encouraged to plant trees on the right places, instead of cutting them down senselessly like they doing in nigeria today. |

Saw it first hand yesterday. They even opened the bowels of a goat and displayed it as sacrifice on raised sand a few meters from the 'sacred tree' while the elders sat around and under the tree as the picture depicts. I however suggest that Ekiti State govt should dialog with the 'elders' They should know that the road is a yes, yes while the Elders should tell the govt what is required to move their shrine off to somewhere else. That would be a win-win and face saving for all. |

They should look for a way to bypass the tree. They have the right to there own belief system. |

blingxx:pls look at my moniker very well, WHITEBEARD has never accused Islam of violence before, cause I have met with various Islamist, and I have had discussions with them, enough to conclude that Islam is not a religion of violence, it just people whose blood are itching for violence that use islam as a cover. Thank you. |

femi4:The problem with african traditions is that people allow them to hold them down, instead of adapting them and moving on with the time. Traditions are ways of life of a people in their own time that could be passed on to the nest generation if they are relevant.,when that shrine was located there at the time of the ancestors there were no cars or needs for roads, but now there are motor vehicles and there are needs for facilities to accomodate them. |

Round-about construction is another good solution however there are other factors involved with that: 1- more land towards, at and after the round-about 2- most importantly, more money. Therefore other options are needed to be on the negotiation table: - Transplant comes back in. - Offer money (for rituals to appease... ) and cut the tree - Just cut the tree Daboomb: |
