Big news in the world of FIFA: EA Sports has ditched Legends
- aka retired footballers for FIFA Ultimate Team - in favour of multiplatform Icons.

Icons will be available on all platforms, EA said today. And
the first Icon is Ronaldo. No, not that Ronaldo. Old Ronaldo.
EA has also gone with PS4 for its FIFA 18 marketing, which is
a significant switch after a number of years with Xbox.
FIFA 18 comes out on 29th September 2017 on PS4, Xbox
One, PC, Nintendo Switch, PS3 and Xbox 360, according to a
press release issued today. EA notes "not all features
available on all platforms", so expect the Switch version, for
example, to work differently to the PS4 and Xbox One
versions.

At the end of the trailer, below, is fine print that confirms
unlike the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions, the Switch version of FIFA 18 does not run on the Frostbite game engine, nor does it include the Journey story mode.

You can play the full game before launch day by getting one
of the special editions (there's a Ronaldo Edition and an Icon Edition). This grants three-day early access, so you can play from Tuesday, 26th September.

EA Access and Origin Access members get up to 10 hours of
playtime starting Thursday 21st September.

Cristiano Ronaldo is this year's cover star. EA motion
captured the Real Madrid forward, so expect to see his
unique running style recreated in-game.

Gearbox Software and 2K have announced that Battleborn is offering a free trial where players can download the game
for free, get unlimited access to maps and modes, with no
level caps or planned end date for the promotion. The kicker is that during the free trial those who do pick up and play the game will get access to a rotation of six playable
characters instead of the full roster.

Fans were hoping to get a big, new Pokemon game on Switch
from today’s Nintendo Direct. Starting with the
announcement that Pokken Tournament DX would come
to Switch, the presentation moved to what everyone had
been waiting for a little while later. Unfortunately it wasn’t a
new game for the Switch, instead we’re getting revamps of
the latest games for the 3DS. Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra
Moon will hit Nintendo 3DS on November 17th.

Pokemon Gold and Silver will hit the 3DS Virtual Console on
September 22nd according to a new announcement via the
Pokemon Direct presentation. These games marked a major
turning point for the series, and are seen by many as the
best games in the franchise. Now they will be available in
their original form on the 3DS Virtual Console for all to play.

Square Enix has officially announced Dissidia: Final Fantasy
NT coming early 2018 for PlayStation 4. This Final Fantasy
spin-off is a fighting game that puts heroes and villains of all
15 mainline games to fight each other individually or in
teams of up to three members. Based on the arcade version
launched in 2015, this new release for PS4 will include a
bigger roster of fighters, which will include Noctis from Final
Fantasy XV for the first time.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy NT will include more than 20 classic
heroes and villains from Final Fantasy, including Ramza
from Final Fantasy Tactics and Ace from Final Fantasy
Type-0, and more than 10 arenas to fight, including Midgar
or Rabanastre. The game will feature a completely original
story that will reunite all heroes and villains from the series,
and which has been created by Kazushige Nojima, writer of
Final Fantasy X, XV, and the Remake of Final Fantasy VII

Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 has been revealed, with the
game following up on the nostalgia filled original with even
more sequels from the franchise. This new collection will
include Mega Man 7, 8, 9, and 10 and will release on August
8th for Ps4, Xbox One, and PC.

Strange Brigade is a new 1930s-set adventure shooter from
Rebellion, creators of Sniper Elite and Zombie Army.
Described as "full of peril, mystery and derring-do", the
game is set to launch "soon" on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox

Bethesda has just announced a new partnership with
Twitch where players and viewers can get free in-game items for The Elder Scrolls: Legends and other Bethesda games. Twitch Drops are a new feature where anyone who’s
streaming their gameplay via Twitch, or just watching
someone else play a Bethesda title, can receive random free item drops. This will begin with The Elder Scrolls: Legends and Bethesda’s E3 Showcase, but seems to be prepared to expand further in the future.

EA Sports has finally given fans their very first look at NHL 18, the latest entry in their annual hockey franchise. While this short teaser trailer is light on info, it serves to get people excited for the game and for the full reveal which is scheduled for June 21st. Death Stranding had a showing that got a lot people excited last year at E3. Apparently, fans are gonna need to wait a little longer for an update on the game as it won’t be at E3 2017. Hideo Kojima recently announced to fans that while he’ll be at E3, the team is currently “fully focused on development” for the game and that it would not be at the show for a second reveal.

Telltale and Mojang have just announced that Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2 is not only coming, but Episode 1 “Hero in Residence” will arrive on July 11th. Telltale’s first series in the Minecraft universe saw its final episode last September. Many expected a second season to come some time in the future, but the developer is known for waiting a while before following up on their games. That’s not happening here though, with the adventures of Jesse and all his/her friends continuing next month.

Sledgehammer Games appears to be changing up the way
that classes operate in multiplayer for Call of Duty WW2.
Where all of the recent Call of Duty games have used a
Create-a-Class system for multiplayer it sounds like this will
be scrapped for something called “Divisions.”

Sledgehammer’s Michael Condrey told Sony that “Divisions
fundamentally redefine how players invest in their
multiplayer soldier career. Replacing the create-a-class
system, players choose from five iconic World War II
divisions each with specific basic combat training, division
training and weapon skills. We think it’ll intrigue Call of Duty
series veterans, and we can’t wait for our fans to see it.”

A few more bits of multiplayer information was revealed for
Call of Duty WW2 by Condrey. Who says, “expect authentic
WWII weapons, iconic battle locations, and a ton of ways to
compete.” Condrey also describes what he calls “War Mode.” This mode is a narrative based multiplayer mode that features Axis vs. Allied soldiers in an assault and defend battle over strategic objectives. The rest Condrey says is being saved for E3.
