this is funny grin grin grin grin

Russian Security Council: West imagines Russian submarine every time they see ripples on water

The reason why the western countries have been accusing Russia of cyber attacks is their nervousness, an aide to the chairman of the Russian Security Council, Alexander Venediktov, said.

"Nervousness has reached such a level when they imagine a Russian submarine every time they see ripples on water," Venediktov said in an interview with the AiF.ru website.

"You must remember that much hyped story when a Russian submarine was allegedly spotted near Sweden’s coast. It turned out to be a real Russian submarine, only it had been lying on the sea bottom since World War I. The same kind of thing is happening in the cyberspace," he said, grin grin grin grin

The aide to the chairman of the Russian Security Council also said that despite Moscow’s continuous requests, no one had been able to provide solid evidence proving that Russia was behind the much talked about cyber attacks. "The so-called Russian interference is just a handy explanation. Of course, it is easier to believe that it was some Russian hackers and not your own fellow citizens who prevented you from winning the presidential election. But the reality is different," he pointed out.

Venediktov also said that modern technical means allowed to simulate a cyber attack from any part of the world. "You may hack a European bank’s database from a building facing its office but make everyone believe that the attack was carried out from Moscow. What we need is to understand who benefits from this. But I think the answer is obvious," Venediktov stressed.

New kind of Armour which Philippines Army is using to fight the IS terrorists................................................... shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked
In Africa we all suffer budgetary constraints but the 'Phils is on another level!

Philippine Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana suggested that the Philippines should look to significantly boost its military budget after decades of underfunding.

“I’ve been talking to some of the congressmen and we should also increase our budget. We have been underfunded for the past 50 years,” Lorenzana said.

When asked if he had a specific figure in mind, he suggested that he would be happy with a rather dramatic increase from around 1 percent of GDP (what the Philippines spend now on defense) to around 2.4 to 2.5 percent of GDP.
http://thediplomat.com/2017/01/how-much-can-the-philippines-boost-its-military-budget-under-duterte/

In comparison India spends 2.4%,Kenya 1.5%,Jordan 4.3%,Namibia 4.8%(wow!,Namibians,can you explain?)Nigeria 0.4%(I wonder about Naij stats!) and RSA 1.1%
http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/MS.MIL.XPND.GD.ZS

Those decades of defense underspending are now showing-the navy is short of hulls, the PhAF has no FSBs since its F5s were retired over a decade back. They do have a squadron of Aermacchi S 211s serving as LIFTS and ground attack but things have recently improved with some incoming S Kor F 50s.
The infantry is short of personnel equipment, flak vests, nvg, aviation and everything else. In fact the AFP was voted by some US servicemen as the 6th worst in the world!

THE Philippines landed in another negative list after the Armed Forces of the Philippines was ranked as the sixth worst army in the world, according to a group of former American soldiers who have turned to the Internet to cater to the information needs of United States servicemen.

DRDO's Labs NMRL is developing two different types of fuel cells for AIP operation of diesel electric submarines PAFC ( phosphoric acid fuel cell) for major use and PEMFC (polymer electrolyte fuel cell) for minor use , they are also working upon direct boron hydride fuel cells with integrated fuel bank for mini fuel bank probably will be used in F-INSAS program as soldier battery pack . NMRL has already demonstrated and developed Alloy Catalyst Carbon paper Electrode, Novel low cost membrane as Nafionsubstitute , Graphite gas distributor plate and H2 generated as byproduct for being used for various purposes .

PAFC catalyst fuel cell Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cells (PAFC)

Electrolyte - Phosphoric Acid

Operating temperature -- 160°C-200°C

Charge carrier - - H+

Prime cell components - Graphite based

Catalyst - Platinum

Product water management - Evaporative

Product heat management - Process gas + Independent cooling medium Moderate

Its by product is H20 which is harmless.

The phosphoric acid fuel cell operates at about 175–200 8C. This operating temperature is almost double as compared to that of PEMFC which is a cause of concern. It utilizes a liquid phosphoric acid as an electrode.
Unlike the other fuel cell developed by DRDO i.e PEMFC . it is very tolerant to impurities in the reformed hydrocarbon fuels. The chemical reaction involved in this fuel cell is same as PEM fuel cell where pure hydrogen is used as its input fuel.

One major disadvantage is its non conformation to the ideal operation parameters if frequent start stop operation is performed and also it reduces life of the fuel cell.

Advantages
Mature technology with proven very high availability (~85%)
Higher operating temp allows high CO (<2%) allows direct reformer gas
Multi fuel option
Highly rugged with long proven life 10,000-50,000 hour

PEMFC fuel Cell

The PEM fuel cell uses a solid polymer electrolyte (Teflon-like membrane) to exchange the ions between two porous electrodes, which is an excellent conductor of protons and an insulator for electrons.

Electrolyte - Ion Exchange Membranes

Operating temperature --- 80°C

Charge carrier- H+

Prime cell components-- Carbon based

Catalyst -- Platinum

Product water management -- Evaporative

Product heat management -- Process gas + independent cooling medium Technology

Anode
Pt on carbon (Vulcan XC72) typically 0.1-0.5mg/cm2, bonded on carbon paper/cloth support with nafion binder for ionic bridge
Cathode
Pt on carbon (Vulcan XC72) typically 5-0.5mg/cm2, bonded on carbon paper/cloth support with nafion binder for ionic bridge
Electrolyte
Fluro sulphonic acid based proton conducting polymer membrane like nafion, dowmembrane etc.

The advantages of the PEM fuel cell are its higher power density and quick start up for Naval systems. The low operating temperature makes the technology competitive in transportation. The major drawbacks of the PEM fuel cell are its lower operating efficiency (40–45%) and use of high cost platinum catalyst. It is also intolerant to carbon monoxide.

all these r still under development

copy paste article..........source http://www.aviationanalysis.net/2017/06/advanced-hawk-complete-maiden-flight.html?m=1

Advanced Hawk complete maiden flight

BAE Systems
BAE Systems has completed maiden flight of an improved version of the BAE Hawk advanced trainer jet, which was first unveiled in February, during the Aero India 2017 in Bangalore, India.

The aircraft was flown from Company’s military aircraft facility in Warton, Lancashire in UK. The advanced Hawk was developed jointly by BAE Systems and India's Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd and features a new type of pilot display, a redesigned wing and defensive aids.

These improvements will allow the highly successful BAE Hawk trainers, first introduced in 1976 to continue meet the market requirement for a next generation fighter pilot trainer. The concept demonstrator aircraft is one of the two Hawk developmental aircraft operated by BAE Systems modified with the improvements.

The concept demonstrator features an upgraded cockpit equipped with BAE Systems’ LiteHUD® (a low-profile head-up display) and a new, large area display that introduces a new student/pilot training experience.

The new redesigned wing developed by HAL is equipped with active slat and combat flap for fighter like handling and also increases performance in areas such as turn rates, angles of attack and both take-off and landing.

It is also equipped with advanced sensor simulation including radar, weapons and defensive aids providing flexible and cost-effective training for tomorrow’s combat pilots.

Advanced Hawk have increased store capability and can carry a payload of 3000 kg, under its seven weapon stations. An new wingtip station can carry air to air missiles. The defensive aids include a radar warning receiver and countermeasure dispensing system to dodge enemy missiles.

The flight range can be extended using external fuel tanks and aerial refueling capability.

I don't know if I've mentioned this but the KDF will establish a battalion sized KMEF within the next 2-3 years. Can't say much about LDPs but 900mn$ has been earmarked specifically for hull acquisition as our prez said 3 years back. This will be their AOR signifying Kenya's expanding regional clout growing in proportion with its economy.
As far as E DRC,S Sudan,Somalia as far as the horn, and down south to N Moz.

Why do countries and people go to war? The usual reasons, religion, racial, oil, opium, dominance and righting political wrongs. We've fixated on the usual black vs white narrative ignoring a very real intra racial hostility here in Africa and elsewhere.
These are Tuareg separatists and their Malian govt enemy. One is obviously lighter and Arab looking and seeks to seceed. The Tuaregs unknowingly fulfill France's agenda to set up a permament armed presence in the region. They claim to be superior to the black Africans and still; keep black slaves openly in Mauritania.

In the S Pacific a 30+ year secessionist war has run on Bougainville. Basically, the richest copper mine in the world,Panguna run by Rio Tinto,a heavyweight among the Anglo Zionists,on Bougainville was shut down by irate Islanders. The PNG gov sent troops to violently reestablish order in the 80s sparking a long running economic, political and racial war.
The New Guineans are Papuans, lighter, reddish in complexion and often Semitic looking while the Islanders are ethnically Melanasian, the darkest in the world with their own economic structures including examples of S Pacific stone money. At first they sought to join their fellow Melanasians on the Solomons but they now want full secession.

The Melanasians have had their own currency for thousands of years-stone money. All over the S Pacific as far as Micronesia elders sculpt stone and mutually decide on its value. It may be purchased along with the house in which its stored-its too heavy to move like paper money and helps in bride price. Therefore they weren't as economically active (desperate for work) as the Papuans and made poor labourers. Quickly they saw themselves being replaced on their own land by foreigners.
King David Pei II,leader of Bougainville secessionists.
An example of stone money from Micronesia.
Will continue later.

SPADEX (Space Docking Experiment) Update

The Department of Space has granted a space project worth Rs 10 crore under which Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) will be able to refuel spacecrafts so that they can have a longer life. It will also help in transferring other crucial systems to spacecraft in orbit.

According to a report by The Times of India, the technology will eventually help in transferring humans to the space stations and bring them back. It will allow two space vehicles to attach in orbit and also transfer material between them. The terms used for the technology are spacecraft docking and berthing. Speaking to the newspaper, senior scientist T K Anuradha confirmed that experiments to this end were under way at the Isro Space Application Centre (Isac), Bengaluru, since 2016. Some ground simulation have already been completed by ISRO. Another senior scientist said, "The plan is to launch two small spacecraft to test the technology in space. India operates a huge constellation of satellites and this technology will allow Isro to enhance their lives by refueling them. It'll also reduce space debris."However, there will be some challenges like managing the speed of the spacecrafts while docking.

its military application if done would be interesting grin
