A nine-year-old boy shot with an arrow in tribal dominated Dhar district was brought to MY Hospital for treatment. A team of doctors performed operation to remove the arrow but his condition was stated to be critical on Sunday.



The victim, Kamal of Kheribalwal Wari village was brought at the hospital with an arrow stuck in his head late on Saturday. The sharp-edged arrow had pierced the frontal lobe of his brain. When Kamal was shot with an arrow his family members tried to remove it.


They attempted to pull it out but the iron head of the arrow got stuck in his head, while its wooden shaft broke into two pieces.


"After conducting medical tests, a team of neurosurgeon performed a complex surgery and removed the arrowhead. The victim's condition is critical. He has been placed on a ventilator," said Dr Arvind Ghanghoriya. The family members of the boy told police that he sustained the injuries by mistake while playing with his friends. In a similar incident reported last week, a man had allegedly shot his wife using a bow and arrow.



Banibai (42) was brought from Alirajpur district to MY hospital for treatment. She succumbed to the injuries during treatment. he incidents of attacks by bow and arrow are quite common in tribal belt of Dhar, Alirajpur and Jhabua, where possession of particular weapon is not prohibited under the Arms Act. "One carries bow and arrow for safety purpose and often uses them over quarrel on petty issues.


In many cases, low literacy and consumption of liquor were found to be reasons behind petty issues turning into bloody attacks," said a senior police official.
