angryPains me to see elderlies begging DISCOs not to disconnect their service wires just because they're billed on estimates of 5k per month when they obviously can't consume 2k worth of energy in a month.

The annoying part is the outrageous aggregate billed over the months of over 130k. Who wan pay am?

And you know what? All these happen because they wouldn't supply prepaid meters.
I have said it before - and I will say it again. These Discos are purveyors and dispensers of corruption. They are experts at billing for darkness! angry And when they bring their grossly inflated bills for electricity they barely supplied, they still have the temerity to cut off power supply to your residence, despite the fact that they have given you more darkness than light.

Eko Disco wins the award for issuing fraudulent estimated bills. sad From 18,000 naira monthly bill in January, they suddenly inflicted a 35,000 monthly bill on us in May. Meanwhile, we did not buy any new electronic gadget since beginning of this year, our consumption pattern has not changed, and power supply was worse in May. May God punish EKEDC every single day of this year! angry

Meanwhile, my pre-paid meter went bad since December last year, and I have reported it times without number. Where do we take faulty pre-paid meters to be repaired? shocked Eko Disco has turned a deaf ear to such pleas. The thunder that will fire all their management, is still doing press up at the edge of the Marina.

Most nigerians are underbilled.

They'll regret asking for meters when their consumption goes from 3k monthly to 10k.

Under-billed in what sense? shocked When my pre-paid meter was working, my monthly bill never exceeded 8,000 naira. During the day, my house is empty! No lights are switched on, and all units are switched off at the mains. Immediately it went bad after a power surge, the same Disco started billing me 15,000 naira and now it has gone up to 35,000 per month. Am I running a bakery? undecided

Nothing to regret about having meter. You can control how much energy you use. You can switch gadgets off to reduce your consumption. I will prefer prepaid meter any day.

Let me tell you all one dark truth.

Do you actually believe that the whites have not found a cure to AIDS since in the 80's? Do you know how many billions of dollars the foreign governments (I don't want to mention names) are making all in the name if AIDS?

See, when you suffer, someone somewhere is benefiting handsomely from your suffering.

That we don't have stable power supply in this country is a special source of revenue to this people.

See, it is doom for them if they give all of us prepaid meter. This means that if they don't give us light, they won't get a dime from us. And we all know they can't supply us enough power. That is why they have given the prepaid meters to very few. If you have noticed, these people with prepaid meters relatively enjoy power (light) more than those with the analog meters.

If we all have prepaid meters, it means, the Discos manpower will reduce by 50%. Ghost weorkers and Avenue to extort and rob Nigerians wouldve been blocked.

You missed my point.

Most residential customers are severely underbilled. By the time they get prepaid meters they start crying after seeing their real consumption.

That's why they kewp bypassing the meters.

In some places they're even resisting installation of the meters.

You're always free to contest your billing. If you don't, it's on you.

And your case is largely an exception. Households with sizable families consume power all day long.

nigerians dont want to manage energy, preferring to turn on all their ACs and heaters and other appliances all day. Truth is Nigerians simply want free energy. Or energy for which they pay on their own terms.

I connected a friend , his bill is 7k plus for temporary direct connection

Prepaid meter them no gree release / carry come

Teewhy2:
That is a good step, but is it possible to win the government in court in Nigeria. These distribution companies are really ripping Nigerians off that is why they don't want to give meter, in my area after banners were placed at street gates that no prepaid no Bill, and people resist paying the excessive bills. they brought in police to disconnect electricity supply of people who didn't pay the bills without any promise of putting prepaid meters soon.
Is it a crime for all household to be given prepaid meter in Nigeria, we saw a video not to long in Ghana of a village mud house with meter and we will be claiming big brother of Africa when some countries have basic social amenities.

Are you building on a swampy area, want to do pile foundation /Need Roof parapet.
Reduce the building load by making use of polystyrene material for your roof parapet and slab.

Oga, you are talking from a very uninformed position. sad On my street, many families are not home during the day, as the parents are out and children are in school. Most people do not get home before 7 p.m. And most evenings, all you hear are the hum of generators, due to power outage. So how much electricity is supplied to power the ACs and heaters that you so blithely refer to? shocked

My neighbour uses 2 ACs, a gas cooker and 3 fans. The number of his electronic gadgets exceed mine. But he does not spend more than 10k recharging his pre-paid meter each month. Just like me, he is only home in the evenings, anyway. So why should I be billed 35k for electricity that I have not consumed?

This is not the first time, it has happened. I will share one quick example. My family house in Festac was billed 65k in one month, just a year ago despite the fact that the entire house was deserted and only one caretaker living in one room in the BQ, was on the premises.

The day I took the bill to Eko Disco to complain, the chap there told me point blank that a wrong factor was used in computing the bill, but there was nothing he could do...I should just pay the bill. sad

I wrote several letters to them, but nothing happened. Electricity supply was even disconnected from the house. After 3 months of going back and forth, they still insisted that the entire bill should be paid, but only gave us the grace to pay in installments. Where is the fairness in that?

If you are a paid agent of Eko Disco, please tell them that extortion by any other name is not the right way to do business. They were not appointed to rip us off! angry

KARMA is a bitch indeed, it's always easier to say loads of craps when u re on the sidelines bt when u re on the driver's seat, it becomes a totally different ball game..

Fashola is frustrated, and the DISCOS re nowhere close to improvement, rather they re getting worse This was a man who said fixing electricity problem in the country wasn't rocket science. I guess he knows better now that it's rocket science combined with nuclear .I just wish SERAP can be steadfast with this battle nd not relent one bit....

When shall we sue our local government officials for not providing free primary schools for all our children?
When shall we sue our state government officials for not providing free secondary schools for all our children?
When shall we sue our government officials for not providing tap water?
In short, we need to wake up quickly.

When creatures like you run out of logical thoughts, they resort to insults. All the adjectives you used in your response, are such a good description of your person. You have just labelled yourself as a 'Neanderthal, ignorant titch, bird-brained halfwit and broke motherfukker.' Why am I not surprised at your reaction? Typical!
