Muslims have repeatedly reinforced the view that Arabic is just a language and as nothing to do with Islam. However, the mere fact that they defend this language assiduously is testament to the fact that Arabic is more than just a language to them.

One of the other argument of Muslims is that Arab Christians use Arabic as a language but that is understandable because they are indigenous arabs or converts who know no other language. But it then becomes suspicious if a country which has no indigenous arabs then craftily introduces Arab into her curriculum when it hasn't sufficiently studied her own indigenous languages. Coupled with the fact that most of these Arab countries also speak French/English as a language.

So you don't need to necessarily understand Arab to speak or transact with an Arab e.g Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria all can speak colonial languages too, I then ask what the relevance of Arabic is to us. but the major point here is this, if it was just a language we need not have this debate. It should simply be removed without anyone feeling hurt.


Also, the concerns of Christians are very well justified. We all as Christians grew up to always transact with a currency whose inscription we could never read, of a language that has no relevance to us in a so called secular state.

However, Muslims would rush out to say that the Arabic inscription does not necessarily represent Islam but if you try to remove that same inscription or attempt to reintroduce that same phrace in Hebrew then these same Muslims would push back which we very well saw during the time when GEJ removed the Arabic inscriptions from the polymer notes.

The fact remains this, Arabic, even though large percentages of Nigerians could not read it was inscribed on our Currency because it is an islamic language. So it is clear that we are not being bigots by rejecting this Arabic studies from the curriculum but being wise as a serpent.

Muslims relate more with Arabic than with English. If Nigeria was an Arabic speaking country then the op would appreciate better how it feels to offer English as a subject.

That is not why. The reason is cuz allah hears no other language. Why should muslims all iver the world be mandated to learn arabic even when arabic is not their first or second languuages?
