This is just another case of much ado about nothing. There is a reason why Languages was made compulsory in our education curriculum.

My take is he probably has dementia. People with dementia tend to regress to early developmental functioning in this case speaking Hausa which is his first language. I suspect that even Hausa experts would notice some irregularities in his syntax. It is not uncommon for dementia sufferers to forget the use of second languages
