Even northerners were used by Nzegwu as foot soldiers during the coup, but it dosent make it any less of an ibo coup. Oga the history books are there for all to read stop trying to rewrite them.
The “Igbo coup” tag attached to the Majors’ assault ignores the fact that scores of northern officers took part in the Lagos operations, and even assisted Nzeogwu when he stormed the residence of the Northern Region’s premier: Ahmadu Bello. Nzeogwu later described the detachment of troops accompanying him to Bello’s house as “a truly Nigerian gathering” (New Nigerian – 18 th January 1966) . Nzeogwu pointed out that the northern soldiers accompanying him “had the chance to drop out. More than that, they had bullets. They had been issued with bullets but I was unarmed. If they disagreed they could have shot me….most of the Other Ranks were Northerners but they followed”. Among the prominent northern soldiers that helped Nzeogwu to overthrow the Northern Region’s government was John Atom Kpera. Kpera later became the military governor of Benue State. Many of the soldiers that accompanied Major Ifeajuna when he abducted the Prime Minister: Tafawa Balewa, were also northerners.

I never said that. Aniona ibos are ibos regardless of what anyone says. The coup specifically targeted the politicians and top military brass from the north and west while sparing those from the east. History has it that The January 1966 coup was an ibo coup and no amount of revisionism can erase that fact
Revisionism by the likes of you, who overlook the evidence before you and reach conclusions based on sentiment.
Most of the literature available on what happened then, points to the fact that these guys were moved to act by Idealism rather than being realists.
You are free to believe what you want, but the facts are facts. So far as, even one Yoruba/ Hausa/NigerDeltan/Middle Beltan participated in that coup, it flaws your argument of Igbo Coup.

The Majors’ failure to arrest or kill the General Officer Commanding (GOC) the Nigerian Army: Major-General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, has led some to believe that he was part of, or was at the very least tipped off about, the coup plot. Ironsi and other senior officers had in the weeks leading up to the coup become concerned by the possibility of a junior officers’ coup. These concerns were passed on to the Prime Minister who either did not take them seriously, or chose not to act in response.

Ironsi was definitely on the Majors’ hit list and Major Nzeogwu later regretted that they did not manage to get him (“We got some but not all. General Ironsi was to have been shot”). Ironsi’s escape owed much to good fortune, and the Majors tactical mistake in arresting or killing other senior officers before they got hold of Ironsi.

The man kept using Igbo! Igbo!, this shows that whatever an igbo man does in this country has always been viewed from the tribal point of view. Most of what he said were assumptions. He also, did not give any concrete reason on why the first coup was carried out, rather, he focused on what people were saying, gossips in the street as regards to Azikiwe not being in power.he has also posits that Igbo desperately wanted to rule by all means. how many means did they (igbo) employ? that is why i'm very wary of these people, if he can come out and say something like this, imagine what he will be telling the people. His inherent hatred on Anioma people showed very clearly here too. He has no love or regard for igbo people, he emphatically called it Igbo coup without apology. If Igbo wanted to carry out an "igbo coup", they would not be foolish to involve none igbos, as they did, because, it will bring sabotage . To me this interview was hatched to continue the branding of the action of military men as igbo coup.Let them continue, i have come to notice that anything done by igbo is viewed differently, both good and bad..

First of all, let me tell you this, when the British were here, we were the last Nigerian officers to be commanded by the British soldiers. (He called for a picture hung on the wall of his sitting room to be brought down to show the first set of Nigerian military officers at that period). The senior person to me in Nigeria was Bassey, the second was Aguiyi Ironsi. The Igbos wanted to rule. Why they wanted to rule was that (Nnamdi) Azikiwe was the then Governor-General and more or less Head of State. The constitution did not give any power to Azikiwe. So, this annoyed the Igbo people and they used to say: “How can we run a constitution in which the Head of State cannot advise the government, the government cannot contact the Head of State for any advice?” So, the answer was well to take over since they were already leading and yet they had no control over the government. That was why the Igbo soldiers decided to organise a coup. But at that time, there were four major leading officers which included me, Yakubu Gowon, Bassey and Ojukwu. Igbo people relied on Ojukwu for the coup and they were able to convince the Yoruba. Ojukwu and Banjo now contacted me and Gowon for a coup. But we refused.[/b]

So if we are to believe Liar Ejoor, Igbos were planning an Igbo coup to give power to Azikiwe or anyother Igbo, and they had to involve a Yoruba like Ademoyega, and Northerners like Kpera. And they also tried to recruit a Northerner like Gowon in a supposedly Igbo coup?
Ejoor, Ejoor, Ejoor, how many times did I call you? When you want to lie, Atleast try to keep it close to plausibility.
Re: Igbo Soldiers Plotted Coup From Independence Day -david Ejoor by pazienza(m): 3:53pm On Jun 27, 2017
Gowon and I refused and they went on their own. But we then reported to that European officer, General Foster. I and Gowon reported to him that some people were trying to plan a coup. He called all of us — the Nigerian Army officers — and advised us not to organise any military coup. When Ojukwu´s father heard about this, he put a memo into House of Assembly that all Europeans should leave the army. It was that year that all the Europeans in the army were sent back to their country. Then, Ironsi, who was Number Two, took over the command of the army. While he was there, Ojukwu still had the coup plot in his mind.

Let me understand Liar Ejoor here.

He mean to tell us that Ojukwu father was strong powerful enough to send Europeans packing in the Nigerian Army, without the support of Balewa or other Northern controlled government officials?

Wow! Ejoor, Ojukwu senior must be a super man.
And to add salt to injury, you Ejoor equally inherited some superman powers that enabled you to read into Ojukwu mind to know what he had in there. shocked

He told Ironsi that he should not allow Ejoor and Gowon to be in Army Headquarters, saying as long they remained in Army headquarters, they would not be able to execute the coup. So, Ironsi sent Gowon on a course in the United Kingdom but he left me alone. When Igbos were worrying him that Ejoor was still there, he told them that: “This man from that small state, minority state? You can handle him, he cannot do anything. Go away, and leave me.” So, he left me[/b]

This is exactly why Nigeria failed. I can't believe that a man with such a small brain that he can't even sell a plausible lie was leading an entire region. cheesy
So Gowon shouldn't be sent for his normal military overseas course that everyone was going, and Ejoor I guess also used his super human mind reading power to visualize that Gowon was sent abroad by Ironsi to avoid Gowon being in the headquarters.
And a supposedly Igbo coup that was supposed to be a covert operation and one which they intended to keep away from super human Ejoor became so porous that Ejoor could hear Ironsi telling Ojukwu that Ejoor posed no threat? cheesy You can imagine the old liar even put it in quote, as a direct statement from Ironsi? Chai!

Re: Igbo Soldiers Plotted Coup From Independence Day -david Ejoor by pazienza(m): 4:11pm On Jun 27, 2017
By December when Gowon came back, it was like a small war in Ironsi´s office. Some army officers told Ironsi that: “We told you to send these two people away, now Gowon has come back. What can we do now? Ironsi was embarrassed and after Gowon came back on the 20th and on the 23rd of that month, Ironsi now sent me away from Army headquarters to Enugu, saying: “He should be hidden there.” I went there and then they tried again but the one they tried was in January 1966 after I had left the Army headquarters. But at that time, they said whatever happened, Ejoor and Gowon must die. They threatened the person who was to organise a coup on behalf of the Igbos in Lagos side.

Yet again, a supposedly secret Igbo coup is being discussed in full glare of the public that Ejoor could hear all the conversations.
Not even civilians can be this lousy in keeping secrets, let alone trained military professionals.

Ejoor is a disgrace.

Did he do that to compensate you?

More or less. But, you know that he had to behave in a way to show that he still liked me. Having removed me from Enugu , he brought me to Benin and that time, most of the officers in the Mid-West were from Anioma area, predominantly Igbo, because as it was, we were nine Lieutenant-Colonels in the Mid-West. I was the only Urhobo and the remaining eight were Anioma. Now that the person they wanted to kill was the governor, how was I to rule that place with satisfaction? I worked with them. I did not know that they were against me. I worked with them in the day time, but in the night, they worked against me. It wasn´t easy. God just preserved me because they did all sorts of things to see whether I could die.

Old fool with delusional persecution complex.

Ojukwu want to kill him, Ironsi asking him if he was with him or against him translates to Ironsi expecting him to have died, when a stable mind would have reasoned that Ironsi was trying to make sure Ejoor wasn't amongst coup plotters to save his own head.

Ironsi had plans for him to head Mid west, old fool preferred Enugu, getting to Enugu, finding out there was no space for him there, his translation is that soldiers in Enugu expected him to be already dead.
He got to Mid west his home region where he was rightly posted to lead, still he believed the Anioma soldiers wanted to kill him.
Everything Igbo wants his death, talk about classical case of Igbophobia.

Since we are all speculating, Ironsi might be a coward afraid of taking his life and would have preferred sending a junior to do the dirty job, hence redeploying him to Enugu and other one thousand and one reason. How about that for a while.
