The first time I became aware of me falling sick was in 2007. I was 26 at the time. Since then it has been a myriad of medical troubles.

It has been cycles of malaria, bacterial infections, disc problems and headache. Every night, I take drugs before I could be able to sleep. I always have antimalarials, antibiotics, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and muscle relaxants handy. If malaria symptoms occur, I would take antimalarials and there would be improvement within minutes. And would then complete the dosage in 3 days. By fourth day, symptoms of bacteria infection would occur; I would take ciprofloxacin and get relieved within minutes. Once I complete the dosage, headache would strike, and once aspirin is taken, I get well. But I would keep repeating aspirin every night until gastric ulceration sets in. I would then buy omeprasole and cimetidine to treat ulcer. While ulcer treatment is ongoing, malaria would strike again, and I would take antimalarials. If antimalarials don't work, I would know that the symptoms are bacterial and take antibiotic. If there is no relief, I would combine antimalarials and antibiotic and there would be a relief. It has been like this since 2007. I don't go to hospital again because I have grown to know these symptoms and what doctors would prescribe.

For the past 2 weeks, I have been battling 'herniated disc' problem in my lower back. It started the day I bent down suddenly and I heard a snapping sound at my back bone. I started using norflex, calcium supplement and diclofenac. I feel mild relief because I can't stop my daily hustle to rest while the disc heals. If I dont work in a day, I won't eat or pay bills.

Note that I undergo HIV test almost weekly.

How do the poor tackle medical problems in this hellhole of a country?

Lalasticlala, please help me move this to fp.
Bros, most inexplicable ailments that keep recurring or defy medical solutions, usually have spiritual origins. Na God I take beg you, go to a Bible-believing pentecostal church like MFM, RCCG etc., and ask the pastors to pray seriously for you. You will be amazed, at the result. wink

Then visit the right hospital and see a good doctor, who will advise you on the necessary tests to be conducted. Once the results are received, he would know the right medications to prescribe for your condition. You cannot be suffering from typhoid or malaria every week. Having feverish feelings & headache, is not always a sign of typhoid or malaria. So stop the self-medication. It could be another infection, which is yet to be diagnosed in your body. sad

Finally, take a look at your source of drinking water & kind of food you eat. Not all the water sold inside pure water sachets, are fit for consumption. Polluted drinking water or contaminated food, can always cause infections in the body. Make sure your room is also well ventilated and fumigated. Poor ventilation could lead to accumulated heat on the skin, and poor circulation of air, could even make you fall sick. undecided

May God heal you speedily, in Jesus name. wink

As funny as Nwaamaikpe sounds, he has a point. There are some medical problems that you will have without tests showing anything that you will wish something shows up even if it's HIV. I'm speaking from experience.

I was like you way back. You know what, I was told I had stubborn typhoid and malaria when I was in Secondary school and was on drugs, I mean I was literally on all sorts of antibiotics.

My medical test result sheets would wrapped up a complete jumbo jet, because I was moving from one lab to the other, from one consultant to the other, and from one hospital to another. I became a lab rat and for more than 15 years, the cycle of being well continued.

just like you, I became a pseudo consultant on typhoid fever and malaria and don't even need doctor for prescription. so, all my savings was going to the pharmacy. My body temperature usually goes off the evening of the morning I gulped the last antibiotics, so I know better than not having extra dosage in my closet.

Well, this is what I did and everything, I mean everything went away. I stopped taking any drugs of any kind. In fact, I wasn't on any drugs for five good years. So, everything happening to you is just your own imagination. The moment you anticipated being sick via constant thinking about it, your brain has a way of manipulating your body into submission.

keep taking your drugs but try everything you can to go organic. That is to say, take the lab made drugs but also use organic therapies for your symptoms, then for your daily living, try to use google, join health groups on fb, to find out organic therapies and remedies for your symptoms and for immune boosting and general health. gradually but steadily your health will pick up. Watch out for things you ingest that you might be allergic to. Google allergens that cause inflammation....

As some have suggested, you might be worrying too much and worry has a way of bringing down your immunity and making you vulnerable. If thats the case, use avocado seed like two times daily, it reduces blood pressure very fast. Take it with caution that is to say know when your bp does not need to be dropped further so you don't suffer low blood pressure. You will grate the seed and take with ordinary water, honey, tea or pap, teaspoonful each time.

Don't give up

If everyone is to list there problem, you will think yours is a blessing.

First, stop taking ciprofloxacin, you are building the bacteria with too much immune, no drug may work again.

Solution : Go to a clinic and Run a test to ascertain the strain of bacteria, what you are doing is blind medication.
Check for typhoid, though Cipro should have helped but you abused it.

Second : you are taking too much drugs, you need a lifestyle change and a Ned diet and nutrition regime.
I doubt if you take fruit, I don't mean orange juice.

Third, for that ulcer, take a litre of water everyday from tomorrow, water is punishment when you are not thirsty but you need to dilute the HCL in your stomach.

Fourth, for that herniated disc, you need to start pelvic floor exercise and try acupuncture too.
Get someone who can massage your back.
Change the height of your chair and stop sitting for long.

Five: Your brain may be having a signal problem especially with a nerve and it is sending pain signal as a sort of comfort. Sometimes our neurons send wrong signal.
Some people actually find comfort in pain
Change your lifestyle again and see a neurologist.

Six: You have to be happy, and be positive. If you add depression to your pain, you will die sooner.

Read this post on depression and solutions
Before you think of giving up, remember this about depression

You are a hypochonriac (ask Google what that is). Not only do you self-medicate, you also over-medicate. That is why diseases are developing a gradual resistance to antibiotics in your system. Go see a doctor ASAP.

Accept my sympathies dear. While I think you should check up your blood sugar levels, I will also advise you to visit the nearest NHIS (National Health Insurance Scheme) Office and get a VCSHIP (Vital Contributions Social Health Insurance Programme) card. I am on the social health insurance cover and it works.
