The National Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum, Alhaji Maitama Sule is dead. Sule, who has been ill for some time now died in the early hours of today at a Hospital in Cairo, Egypt.

The Dan Masanin Kano was a respected Elder statesman until his death. Sule's sojourn into Nigerian Politics began in 1976 after he became the Federal Commissioner of public complaints. He decided to contest for the presidency in 1979 under the National party of Nigeria but lost to Shehu Shagari.

He was appointed Nigeria's representative to the United Nations after the coming of civilian rule in September 1979. While there he was chairman of the United Nations Special Committee against Apartheid. In 1983, He the Minister for National Guidance.

So he would be buried today according to Islamic rites?
So he did not survive to see Buhari complete his term?
Anyway he will be remembered by the North for being outspoken and always representing their interest.
I remember him for participating in the last 2014 National Conference organised by Goodluck Ebele Jonathan PhD.
I dont know about the South. But the North has a good common voice. Focused and better negotiators. Most times they have the upper hand.
He would have defeated Alhaji Shehu Shagari in the 1976 election under the umbrella of NPN; if not the southerners

This is a great man, lived an exemplary life. A prudent and corrupt free minister and politician.
Well revered and respected across the boundaries.
I wish those Igbos castigating and insulting him even after dead can achieve half of his achievements and years lived
