Nice of CBN to rise to the occasion
I just hope the appointed board members are not APC supporters earning their party dues

Etisalat will not go away

first thing they should do is bring down the tarrif for their data
they cannot

Ncc has set base data for the four major networks.

They cannot reduce data further until ncc say otherwise.

Boye??

Dangote's mole on the new board. Adenuga has lost out on this one.

In a matter of time, Dangote Industries Limited will take over this board.

Ok

The new MD is experienced. Etisalat would now officially displace MTN in terms of subscribers grin

But my brothers on Board should shine their eyes oh...their experience is too much shocked shocked shocked

When is their term going to end? 2 years or 5 years undecided

Are they all Nigerians? I mean single nationality with only ECOWAS passport undecided

Did DSS clear them given the sensitivity of their roles? undecided

Nigerians deserve a right to occupy the Board not exclusive for people with long nose undecided

Anyway sha, I see 2:2:1 formulae in the composition embarassed

But the Igbos are occupying juicy positions - Chairman & Non- Executive Director position. shocked

Igbos are indeed doing very well oh cheesy
You have started again with this your analysis tongue

What the hell is CBN's business with Etisalat? Shouldn't it be NCC that would have a say in this?

My brother......... I can't comprehend o.....if a company as big as Etisalat is in distress

Etisalat really need expert intervention like this. But if a brand like Etisalat is in distress, what happens to our small businesses?

Uhmmm actually, the people who ought to have taken over from the Etisalat should be the aggrieved banks.

Etisalat owes several banks a truck load of money and defaulted severally in its koan payment. it had to take the intervention of CBN and ncc to stop the forceful takeover.

The crux of the matter is bad management, and I think CBN approved board is a better suited for the job. Banks wouldn't have let NCC appoint members of the board when NCC is out to milk telecoms.

CBN are concerned about the health of our banks, and so would have been better trusted by these lenders to step in and manage the situation

gerrit?

before you start throwing tantrums, you need to first dig deep to discover the subsurface problem.

Has Glo folded? even small Ntel is still pulling through then why Etisalat? That Etisalat is experiencing troubles doesn't correlate with the small and medium scale bizness. Both have factors that would hit them hard in different ways.

Etisalat crisis is a product of fast depreciated currency

Hmmm. Now I can relate to another factor.....which I believe is the drop of oil price in the global market since Etisalat is from oil producing state abihuh This has got to be a case study for other small. ..medium and big companies to diffuse and learn ...... even if it looks fine with their financial reports. So my dear friend......be gentle with your wordings. The quote above is not ideal.

Is that really the case?

More like HBO using his pals in government ( a certain short northern governor is a silent partner), pulled a sharp manoeuvre by invoking a clause in Etisalat's gsm licence that prevents any third party (including bank creditors) from gaining control.

You still don't get the picture. go and research on the foundational problem, come back and read my comment you will get it

You must be a lover of conspiracy theories.
A clause that had existed even before the crisis.
Meanwhile have you thought the impact it would have had on Nigerians if banks collectively agreed to sell it?
The job loss?
The loss in revenue ?

Whether " HBO" as you call it puts his man or not is no brainer, the koko is how do the banks get back their money. Or don't you know a defaulting borrower puts our bank savings at risk?

SO WE HAVE ALL THESE BRAINS (WELL ACCORDING TO THEIR QUALIFICATION SHA) EXIST IN CBN AND OUR FINANCE IS SUFFERING! NAWAO!

Its not a conspiracy theory if it actually happened.
The banks were all ready to take over possession until the clause was invoked. And guess where the information emanated ?
We all like things to be clear and text book like. But if that is your assumption in Nigeria, you'll be sorely disappointed. There's a backstory here

Omo, with this team, Etisalat will bounce back. This is the best you can get. Bickersteth is no longer heading KPMG though. He retired last year. Ken Igbokwe has retired from PwC too. Both are veteran consultants that you can bring in to reverse a bad situation.

[quote author=ChiefSweetus post=58122819]hmm... if na by qualifications and experience, naija for don better.
you check the board that resigned, their CV is just as impressive if not better.
But human nature - greed - nepotism... these will always factor in decision making.
And the cookie will inevitably crumble.[/quote
That's the point exactly.
