fratermathy:Before people turn this thread into a tribal war, I want to ask a couple of simple questions. Who is the father of Prince Ginuwa, the first Olu? Who is the mother? She is an Urhobo, and daugher of Chief Obahor, who went to Benin to seek the favour of the Oba to be crowned as an Ovie! If the mother of the first Olu is an Urhobo,it put paid to all the so called scholars who are trying too hard to rewrite history! It is on record that representatives of the Otovwodo clan are always present whenever an Olu is crowned until the ascent of Atuwatse II,whose reign plunged the town into warfare! I thank God for the current Olu, Olu Ikenwoli I,who knows the history of his people, and declared that he will not support any continued warfare or pay the legal fees of any case against his neighbours. It is on record that he has visited every single Urhobo monarch in Delta State, likewise the Ijaws! So,I shake my head when I read the comments of misguided fellows without an iota of history, and played into the hands of unscrupulous and diabolical tribal warlords! |
| Re: WARRI: The City And The Kingdom by subsurface: 8:07pm On Jul 08, 2017 |
My questions as a ex warri resident are (1)"if the itsekiri claims to own warri city, how come their King/Olu doesn't have authority over 60-70% of the city? (2) why is it that 90% of warri pikin slang has urhobo language but not itsekiri or ijaw...? Lastly I believe that court cases favoured the itsekiri because of their language closeness to Yoruba and their educational literacy.. |

OAUTemitayo:Please,I will advice you to go and ask the oldest man in your community to tell you how Chief Dore sold lands belonging to both the Agbarha and Itsekiri people, because you are obviously out of touch with reality! Perhaps, you are too young to remember how the Olu's coronation anniversary was celebrated in Warri until the convoy was blocked at Ginuwa Junction, off Warri Sapele road, and all hell was broke lose! I was at the late Chief T.J. Sokoh's residence and watched the entire drama, which was the beginning of the Warri crisis. For all the so called vaunted Supreme Court victories, can you mention when was the last time that an Itsekiri boat regatta convoy crossed the NPA Expressway to Ibo Market, not to talk of crossing Okere Market? It is this type of asinine mentality that is making the Itsekiri race to now become a slave to the foreigners that they welcomed into Chevron Nigeria Limited,at the expense of their Ijaw and Urhobo brothers. They are now begging and protesting for regularisation of trained Itsekiri youth! Go to Oleri and Dibi fields and see non-Niger Deltans bouncing all over the place as engineers while Itsekiri graduates are patrolling the streets! Can they try that with the Ijaws? For the records, during his presentation before the panel setup up to look into the first Warri crisis, the late Oroseun,Chief B.O. Okumagba aka "dry meat when dey full mouth" brought land documents of the current palace of the Olu at Ajamimogha, and averred that his family sold the piece of land where the palace was built,a claim that went unchallenged! He asked that the panel should mention a single kingdom anywhere in the world where land meant for the palace of a king is purchased from a tenant! He furthered asked the panel to ask the Olu to point the grave yard of any of his ancestor in Warri Metropolis,if he can! He said that he can point the graves of his lineage up to the grave of his father,Chief Eboh inside Warri Metropolis! As for court cases, I will advice you to seek out the profile of the Justices and check out their links to the Itsekiri people! When the Itsekiri people tried to test the resolve of the Okpe people by claiming Urhiapele which the British renamed SAPELE,why not mention how the case ended at the same Supreme Court when the Okpe people matched them with fire for fire, and connection for connection? Is it not a Nigerian court that said that James Ibori is not an ex-convict when the judge at the Bwari High Court,Abuja and the policemen attached to the court, all testified that they were present when he was convicted? Is it not a Nigerian court that said that Ibori was not an ex-convict when even a BBC documentary was aired with evidence of his conviction in UK? Na today na him yansh start to dey for back? Hisses and walk out of this thread! |

jared007:This is the truth that they will never say. The answer to the ownership of the parts of Warri lies in the true history of the Itsekiri people, which have been covered with fables, but can be found in the records of the Benin Kingdom! Ask any Itsekiri youth to explain why Otovwodo people sent representatives to the crowning of an Olu,if he will answer! They don't even know their history, which is gradually lost today because they rely on manipulated court victories and fables told by elders, who are supposed to be custodians of history. At what point was the Itsekiri nation born? They don't know. Did the Istekiri nation started with the arrival of the Prince,or he met the Itsekiri people here? They don't know. Why is the people of Ugbuwangwe always disrespectful to the Palace, despite threats? They do not know! Who are the natives that rescued Prince Ginuwa when his boat landed at Ijakpa? They don't know. What is the name of the maternal grandfather of the first Olu? They don't know! Who were the maternal Uncles of Prince Ginuwa that escorted him on his journey in the Great Canoe? They do not know! What are the names of the communities founded by the uncles of Prince Ginuwa? They do not know! I thank God that I am an Okpe from the Orhorho royal lineage, and our family history is cherished and protected from those who chose to rewrite history, otherwise,Sapele would have been lost, just like most Okere-Urhobo and Ogbe-Ijaw lands! |

Efewestern:This post is completely put of touch and one sided, a complete twist of history an fabricated lies one capable of causing bitterness and hatred in warri, Agbassa is a small enclave and not in anyway the owners of GRA warri, agbassa urhobo are customary tenants, and the so called okere- urhobo kingdom was carved out of okere community after the urhobos forcefully took over the land backed by ibori's favouritism and for the first time okere- urhobo became a miniature and caricature kingdom with okumagba as its first king, the name okere is an itsekiri word and its used in naming okere community is backed by the history of ekpenede now referred to as ekpen........please dont get me started. i remain once again a decendant of the great CHIEF NANA OLOMU |

subsurface:1. name the towns in Warri city den we take it from there 2. name d slangs 3. why did the same assumption nt favour the Itsekiris in the following cases 1. sapele land case 2. Okumagba avenue land case just to mention a few ur dislike fr Itsekiri is making u to derail this thread. i will argue when u provide fact and proof from a non pro ITSEKIRI/Urhobo source |

| Re: WARRI: The City And The Kingdom by UnknownT: 8:46pm On Jul 08, 2017 |
I read somewhere that even if an Itsekiri man has a land dispute with God, he will go and bring a court judgement ruled in his favour. I believe that is a joke though ![]() |
| Re: WARRI: The City And The Kingdom by jared007: 8:46pm On Jul 08, 2017 |
marcondo13:God bless u brother. Lies can't last forever. Many itsekiris in okere got their lands from okumagba family by marriage. The Itsekiris used to send their daughters to Urhobo men for marriage knowing fully well that they would be given free land as gifts. |

onuwaje:This statement of yours practically gave you away as a sentimental tribal wight. A topic was posted on a public forum and you expect people to keep shut because they bring bytes that threaten your prejudice. The biggest issue I have with Deltans and your likes is their penchant for drawing tribal slurs, as small as they in Nigeria. Very intolerant set of beings |

| Re: WARRI: The City And The Kingdom by onuwaje(m): 9:29pm On Jul 08, 2017 |
Oildichotomy:don't get me wrong sir the reason i made mention of that is because it is only the Urhobos who are from Warri South can really give me convincing facts nothing more. i am not sentimental in my judgements i just don't like when people bring hearsays or demsays into important issues. just because i heard doesn't mean i have to conclude without listening to people from the source. so my question goes to u are u from Warri South LGA? if yes signify cos i have important questions to ask cos i want to learn |
| Re: WARRI: The City And The Kingdom by onuwaje(m): 9:34pm On Jul 08, 2017 |
subsurface:i am not disputing this fact that is why i always ask for the main references on this subject matter(court verdict on each areas) the Itsekiris and Urhobos have won and lost land cases in Warri city that i wud like to know where and where was won by either of them.. i am not standing on hearsays. tell me what d court papers say and for ur info i am more Warri dan u vwonyo! |
| Re: WARRI: The City And The Kingdom by marcondo13: 9:34pm On Jul 08, 2017 |
onuwaje:A typical reaction of a modern Itsekiri youth, who show a distaste for academic scholarship. Do I sound like a pimpled juvenile, who rely on hearsays Who are the founders of the different Agbraha clans? I am giving you an account and you are making an asinine comment! Why not call the oldest man in your family and ask him about the land in Warri, on which the Aghofen, the Olu of Warri’s palace was built,if it is privately owned and was leased to Wilson Gbesimi Emiko (Erejuwa 11) by Omagbemi for the Ewelofu of Ekurede-Itsekiri, or it was a property of the royal family for generations. Then, come back and update everyone on his response. For your information,I am tied by blood and marriage to the Arubi family, Awani family and the Fregene royal line. So,stop wasting your time believing that you are more Itsekiri than me,because my grandparent's main residence was almost burnt in 2000 because the Agbarha youths even thought that they were Itsekiris. I am not your typical youth, who rely on fables of doubtful provenance. I still repeat and challenge everyone to go back and ask about the origin of the Itsekiri Kingdom! You will be shocked about the interwoven fabric of the Agbarha people and the Itsekiri nation! |

Efewestern:It is not a supremacy contest but setting the facts right! A couple of guys whip up political sentiments to loot and share oil contract booty and turned it into a tribal warfare! I am still waiting for him to tell me the relationship between the Agbassa founding fathers (Iruowhara, Osuovba and Ijala),who settled at Ijala and later Ukpokiti within the Warri Metropolis, and the first Olu,Prince Ginuwa! Can there be a king without a kingdom? It is time that Africans learn to ask deep questions instead of relying on fables like the Oduduwa story and other African fairytales! |
