Please house ,have been read on nairaland that V6 engine consumed more fuel than others .and I just get my first car which is sienna 2000 model xle trim as we all know sienna came with V6 engine .....and I do see it bn used for transport which I believe if it's not good naija won't even near it at all .... or is there any trick transporters used to cure its fuel consumption. Pls experts in the house should help me out.

1. use engine oil weight of 5w20/5w30
2. Change Air filter every year or dust the air filter and clean if its the reusable type
3. use recommended tyre size of 205 0r 215 whichever you intend to use on all 4s with PSI of 35-40 nothing more
4. Clean the throttle body every year with carburetor sprayer
5. Dont run your fan direct
6. dont use water in cooling system use only reliable coolant in both the radiator and reserve tank.

i use a 2000 sienna too 3 years now and it hasnt been easy but it is ok. you cant get less than 12L/100km for 80% highway 20% city (traffic), there is no short cut to make your car as efficient as camry except you find a way to reduce the weight of your car.

The fan is only supposed to blow by default when engine is hot or when AC is switched on. Not the one quack mechanic and rewire will use wire tap current to fan from ba3 so it can blow all the time even when engine is cold.

Buy coolant that is tested and trusted or the recommended one from a reputable dealer. Using of water in radiator is a no no

inorder words what a 6 cylinder will do easily if given to a 4 cylinder it will find it stressful.

The pencil camry uses same 1MZFE engine in its V6 so does a lot of V6 of that year, Solara, avalon, so am guessing they share identical brain box since the engines are not different.

If you are really interested in making your Sienna fuel efficient than stock, you need to change the engine to a 2.5L 4 cylinder turbo charged Volvo engine around year 2008-2010, but you will buy other accessories like brain box, gear system, injector, then you need a mechanical engineer to recast the engine seat, re weld the exhaust system and affix all the required sensors. By the time you finish, the money spent would have bought you 2 tokunbo sienna 2003 but you would have succeeded in more hp, and probably doing 2L less than the stock engine so let's do the calculations

You increase your ODO by 15k every year so you run 15,000km a year

Stock engine
100km X 12L
15000km = 1800L

Your new custom engine
100km X 10L
15000km = 1500L

Every year you save 300L X 145 = 43500 naira

A tokunbo sienna average price is 1,500,000 for a clean title of that generation

1,500,000 / 43500 = 35 years

After 35years of usage then you will break even.

If your engine is cold that is the temp Guage hasn't reached the Half mark, your fan is not supposed to be blowing album at cold start if you switch on the AC both fans will blow whether engine is cold or hot.

If the car is naija used it's possible it has been kazeemized reason for the fan blowing at cold start.

The solution to your problem is to find a good technician to revert back to default by removing the alien connection, after that check whether the thermostat is in place and coolant is in the radiator and reservoir rather than water.

Depends on the car you intend to use the coolant on

i utilize the total green coolant sold for #450 in Total fueling station and it has served me well. i used it for my Nissan almera in 2015 till i gave it out, it served me well no issue, i currently use it in my 2000 sienna, changed in september/october 2016, i have only topped it once since then and it was the reserve tank i topped not the radiator.

i would recommend it for any car less than around 2004.

got dis abro coolant smtym bak bt it used to dry up. so i put water bak in there. later discovered it was because d coolant wasnt original.
bn difficult getting one here in Ilorin. wld try check total stations if I wld be lucky to get them. not sure tho cuz I neva saw anyfin of such on display just lubricants.

The main reason Sienna is used for transportation is simple
1. Fuel consumption is good for highway driving, u will hardly see someone use a Sienna for city shuttle, it will consume more fuel in the city which is not good for business, but for highway the fuel consumption is fair enough.

2. The van is very reliable an easy, inexpensive to maintain. There is no any secret about making it more fuel efficient. Fans connected to factory default helps and being gentle on acceleration helps too. I don't think using synthetic oil for this 17 yr old van makes much dfference.

I'm still wondering if the brain box swap the op was referring to is changing a v6 brainbox with I4 brainbox.... cos if it's the v6 with the v6 there isn't much difference.....

the thing is, highway mpg really isnt that bad for the sienna and being light footed will also make u gain some mpgs.... but as for the Camry brain box swap, I doubt it highly......

my I4 Camry uses a Lil bit above 3/4 tank from abakaliki to Lagos- 641km (with load- trunk and AC ) ..... I have never seen a sienna do even close to a full tank before.
