The Zikist Movement Today: For Nigerian Unity, Against Igbo Marginalization by Nobody: 4:52pm On Jul 13, 2017
When the Zikist Movement was launched in the 1940s, it was about fighting colonialism and kicking it out of Nigeria. That was finally achieved in 1960.

But today, the Movement is about promoting Nigeria’s unity, while fighting the marginalization of the Igbos.

Today, there is no Federal presence in Igbo Land, while youth groups from other regions threaten genocide against Igbos if they don’t leave, abusing their constitutional rights. While other groups believe the answer is to break from this country, the Zikist Movement believes the answer is not to drag Igbos into a war where millions of lives would be at stake, like the last Nigerian Civil War.

As one of the groups that sacrificed to free this country from the chains of colonialism, we believe all sides should come together in unity and fairness, not tear apart in hatred and intolerance.

Zikist Movement also believes the Igbos should not just fall for any referendum gimmick by the youth groups that would give the South East Igbos a landlocked country while cutting them off from the South South Igbos.

Zikist Movement acknowledges the right of everyone to self determination, but believes that Nigeria should be given another chance. The Movement believes that rather than secede, the Igbos should demand strongly for their rights as Nigerians, including the rights to be placed on a level playing ground in Nigeria.

The focus of the Zikist Movement might evolve tomorrow but today, the focus is on promoting Nigerian Nationalism, while saying a big NO to marginalization of the Igbo people.

The Zikist Movement is open to every Nigerian. Indeed, the founders of this movement came from different parts of the country. Looking at the geopolitical origing such early members as Abiodun Aloba, Kola Balogun, Raji Abdullah, Sa’ad Zungur, Mbazulike Amaechi, Peter Osugo and many others it is clear that this is a national not a sectional movement.

Nigerians who believe in a united Nigeria and fight against marginalization of Igbos, people like Wole Soyinka, Balarabe Musa, and Ayo Fayose, would make good Zikists.

As ethnic forces try to tear Nigeria apart, as ethnic considerations threaten to turn October 1 from a day of unity to a day of division, it is fallen to we the Zikists to bind the nation’s wounds, to assist in reconciliation, to promote unity in diversity.

Otherwise, our nation may become engulfed in deep crises that would do nobody any good. Zikism does not say you should abandon your ethnic group and your culture. It says you should practice ‘unity in diversity’. Embrace your culture while you embrace your country.

We have walks for unity to make, unity-building articles to write and so many other activities that will go a long way in their own way to unite this country. When we unite this country, it will benefit us all.

Arrant nonsense!!! The mindset of the so-called Zikist Movement came to abrupt end in 1966. What actually trending now is IPOB movement.
One USA citizen once said "give me freedom or death". It is either Republic of Igbo land, Biafra or war. What is the essence of existence when a person cannot call a country his/her homeland? Like you correctly pointed out, it is not a coincidence there are no Nigerian government presence in Igbo land since independence in 1960. Just do the maths. I am sure there should be none in the next 10 years. I can bet my last cent that if the Republic of Igbo land or Biafra is actualized today, the next 10 years there will be significant changes in the country.

Sir, this 'Freedom Or Death' you mentioned was actually the slogan of the Zikist Movement in the 1940s when Zikist youths were kicking the evil colonialism out of Nigeria. We succeeded by 1960, but as Orji Kalu said, world powers don't want to see Nigeria disintegrate. How will IPOB then suceed in this quest to disintegrate Nigeria? Better for it to be guardians of Biafra-in-Nigeria, as opposed to fighting to break Biafra from Nigeria.

Remember, Ojukwu advocated for Biafra Of The Mind, where Biafra remains in Nigeria with Arewa, Oodua; but agitates for better rights for Ndigbo and other peoples.

Igbos should go back and develop the east. All these "unity" crap is an afterthought. Just develop your region and stop emigrating in droves.

With your supposed 'education' and inability to get a life and wife even at marriageable age, u become jealous of the average Igbo boy who is uneducated in your standard, migrated to Lagos with a polyethylene bag and served meritoriously in his oga shop, obtained freedom and living large from his hard earned money.

Now you want him to go back to his region, for what exactly, you think if the Igbos go back your life would be better?? Or girls would be cheaper in Lagos so you can choose a wife at your old age??

It is a shame that the Nigerian system never favoured you and you never fought against it, go to FP and see a beautiful wedding thread of 17year old boy in Aba as of yesterday, the guy is okay and control his business. He is able to keep a wife, because he has excelled in his business.

You claimed be sophisticated and educated, yet the uneducated and ill exposed Fulani keeps deciding your fate and future. Your VP a SAN, professor, preacher et al has an uneducated as his boss, this is how spiritually and emotionally you have been defeated and conquered.

Igbo is not your problem.

Your inability to succeed despite education your parents gave you should be your concern so you can get married without fear and give them beautiful grand kids, but this could only happen once you gain freedom from the caliphate.

It is a pity your education chained you, instead of giving you freedom.

Go in peace, ye! Son of ....(nothing fits in)
