Truth234:How can we patronize what is made here...things are too expensive here. 1000 pieces of goods in china may be $300 equivalent to 108,900 while 1000 pieces in Nigeria may be 350,000. In addition, if govt want to stop importation, they should empower business owners, most especially manufacturers so that can mass produce goods using our own raw materials. The countries that are not importing didn't stop exportation just like that...they worked on their countries till they discourage (not stop) importation. if the products here are of good quality and affordable...why should I buy it from outside my country? |

They make so much noises without even lifting a finger to correct the situation. They behave as if they are still the opposition, while they are now the government. |

Government is not making the country favourable for manufacturers and for industrialists. As far as energy is not tackled and over taxation of young industries continue, these useless rhetoric will still b heard continuously. Bunch of unpatriotic and blood sucking leaders. Make the climate favourable that's the only thing the citizens ask of you. |

Spending such a huge amount on foreign consumable items is very very unpatriotic. But is there any law making this a crime? Preaching or appealing to Nigerians against buying more superior items will not stop it. Prohibiting the importation of such items is to me the answer. What of importing education thatcan be made here. Most people now send their children abroad after looting the fund meant for the schools and universities and even the hospital. May God safe Nigeria. |

oodua1stson:You need to read more. My advice to you is just pick any good book written on the rise of the Asian Tigers. Thank me later. Meanwhile, if UK is importing more than 80% of what they consume and heaven didn't fall according to you, pray tell, what are the reasons heaven didn't fall? Could it be because the value of the "80%" imports is insignificant compared to the value of exports? Could their "80%" be because they have little or no resources to produce substitutes locally? A good analyst don't take things on their face value, you need to dig deeper. Relative comparison don't fly just like that. |

juman:They've done a lot already. Rice importation bill has reduced. Wheat importation is also decreasing. Nigeria has started mixing NPK fertilizers after the agreement signed with Morocco instead of importing bagged fertilizers. Nigerian Army have started patronizing boots made in Aba. All government sponsored functions now used drinks, foods and juices produced in Nigeria. Government has started patronizing Innosons Motors. Now what have you done personally? Have you changed your taste for foreign goods and products? Have you changed your attitude to Made in Nigeria goods? Have you ever deliberately seek for products or foods made in Nigeria even though cheaper but imported or smuggled foreign alternative exist? It is to cast aspersion but you have to be the change you want to see. |

Dey should give us rundown of how much they spend on their children that attend foreign universities, that's when we would start taking them more serious |

Joysmith2:This is a very wrong and Dangerous way to think especially with the current reality on the ground. Has the Nigerian elites or politicians ever cared about the Average Nigerians? I mean is their greed and selfishness not part of Nigerians problems? If Yes then why on earth would you expect them to do the Impossible before you make Moves that can benefit you and your family? For example if you make Shoes and Nigerians starts buying your Shoes instead of the imported ones. Or you are a Tailor and Nigerians starts buying the Clothes you make instead of imported ones. Rather you will see Nigerians that doesn't even have the Money in the first place, Struggling and almost killing themselves buying the imported shoes and clothes so they can belong and impress total Strangers. Some would even result to Crime, Prostitution, Rituals all in the bid to Impress or leave above standards. Indians did it in the past and Rejected Western Products and you can still see it today that majority of them still wear their clothes and it helped their economy a great deal. A change in Mentality is What Nigerians need urgently and can't say we will remain like this cos the leaders don't care cos at the end we end up hurting ourselves while the same leaders continue to enjoy. Have a Blessed Sunday |

erico2k2:Since we already know that we should continue doing stuff that hurts us directly? We both know they dont care and that is the more reason we should care for ourselves. Like me buying your locally made shoes instead of imported ones and you buying the Clothes i made as a Tailor instead of imported ones. Waiting on people who doesn't care to first act before we do is called suicide cos they will never change and they have the Money to continue and we don't. Change of mentality is what the average Nigerian need |

it is good to use our locally made goods and also patronise our locally made products, but our Nigeria leaders must lead by example not just mere saying. In Nigeria we like paper work than bringing it to practice how many house of assembly or reps members do put on our locally made product even the ministers like shoes watches and other materials, lets not deceive our self our locally made goods rice is so expensive in the market what are u doing to make sure that average Nigerians can purchase those goods at a voidable price some of your kids are in abroad studying what are u doing to our federal universities and state not just saying this to attract us we are wiser than u think this is not dark era days when politician will come with there sweet mouth to deceive us we have pass that era in Nigeria beans that we produce in Nigeria how much are they selling it is even more expensive in the market than foreign rice so what are u saying no price control everybody is running his or her own business the way they like in Nigeria nobody is saying any thing to this stop .stop Critizing past government now people are still patronising foreign goods than before what we want is reality not paper saying please .,not I will all the time |

its sad that most Nigerians prefer to accept propaganda as truth rather than carrying out some research. those condemning the past administration should have asked this administration to give a breakdown of what the import bill was between 2004-2011 & 2012-2015... we would see that our import bill was reducing steadily. even the rice that some people are praising this administration for had its roots in the past administration. as at 2014, the target was that by 2016, Nigeria would become self sufficient. but alas, the tale has been twisted & credit taken by this administration even when they didn't lift a finger to do jackshit... |

Joysmith2:Foreign education isn't the problem. I still see huge billions of dollars spent by Chinese government to fun scholarship for their citizens in various international universities. But are we able to let the knowledge impart our nation? Do they come back? |
