My brother. Go for the bookie that gives you what you want.

Be it Nairabet, Bet9ja, Merrybet, Surebet, 1960bet and so on.

It's your money. Make your own decisions.
Isn't it rather saddening that a lot of our youths have become lazy, addicts, thieves and have their lives ruined because of you guys? We have even read cases of how many of them committed suicide after losing heavily to you guys, after using their school fees, accomodation fee, feeding allowance, stole their parents and other peaople's money to place betting on your website.

Oga Akin Alabi, I miss those days you held seminars accross Nigeria, especially at Ojeagbasi's success digest seminars. Those days we looked forward to your publications in the magazines every week, teaching young people how to make money legitimately through the internet: Google adsense, affiliate marketing etc. RIP to those days.

yommyk222:
Can you quote a Bible verse that said you should not placed online bet or baba ijebu because I have been waiting for this for so long even my pastors in depper life here still preach it but I can never accept anything that bible did not state clearly, I will be eagerly waiting for the Bible verse as a proof that God is against it. Thanks
Let me take you back to the genesis from first principles. I am doing this because you mentioned your church.

The Bible is full of references to God’s view of economics.
In the garden of Eden, even before sin entered the world, God established a work ethic by which humanity was to exist (Gen. 1:28-30).
Part of God’s creation of man in his own image was that man would work for his food.
While God provided it, Adam and Eve had to exercise “dominion” over the plants and animals and till the soil, working for their sustenance.
After they sinned, work changed to a more laborious task, but it remained the way God provided for them.
In other words, God’s way is that we should earn what we get.

The above is simple but pregnant with meanings.

The answer to your question is neither "Yea" nor "Nay".

The principle of any godly living is embedded in this scripture "Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand - Philippians 4:5"

That said, If no passage of Scripture explicitly forbids it, can we with confidence claim that gambling is wrong, a moral evil, sin? With good reason, Christians are hesitant to label sins that the Bible doesn’t mention (just like you, yommyk222), yet we often have to distill principles from the Bible that we apply to contemporary situations. Pornography, computer hacking, or cheating on tests aren’t mentioned in the Bible either, yet believers who want to live like Jesus know intuitively and correctly that these behaviors run counter to the will of God. While biblical texts may not mention them explicitly, biblical principles speak to them directly.

I must state categorically here that there are many reasons why Gambling violates christian principles.

1. Working and investing for a living is based on a win/win scenario, but gambling is always win/lose. God put his stamp of approval on commerce and work. When a carpenter builds a cabinet and gets paid, both parties win. One of them gets the cabinets she wanted, and one of them gets the money he desired. They can both feel good about the transaction. Not so with gambling. Someone always loses and pays a price.

2. Gambling is motivated by greed. Let’s be honest and admit that greed lies at the heart of all gambling. The desire to get something for nothing is really another name for covetousness (Exod. 20:17; Prov. 21:25-26).

3. Gambling is a wasteful use of the Lord’s money. I doubt that many Christians who gamble tithe, but even if they do, New Testament Christians understand that God doesn’t have the right to only ten percent of our money, but all of it. Even though I am a tither, I am still required to be a steward of all I have because it belongs to God. I am no freer to gamble with God’s money than I am with anyone else’s. Even though others might waste the Lord’s money on equally frivolous things, their sin doesn’t excuse mine.

Is Gambling then a Sin?

Throughout the Old and New Testaments, we read about people casting lots when a decision had to be made. In most instances, this was simply a way of determining something impartially:

Joshua then cast lots for them in Shiloh in the presence of the LORD, and there he distributed the land to the Israelites according to their tribal divisions. (Joshua 18:10, NIV)

Casting lots was a common practice in many ancient cultures. Roman soldiers cast lots for Jesus' garments at his crucifixion:

"Let's not tear it," they said to one another. "Let's decide by lot who will get it." This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled which said, "They divided my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing." So this is what the soldiers did. (John 19:24, NIV)

The Scripture gives very specific instructions about what our attitude should be toward money:

Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless. (Ecclesiastes 5:10, NIV)

"No servant can serve two masters. [Jesus said.] Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." (Luke 16:13, NIV)

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (1 Timothy 6:10, NIV)

Gambling is a way to bypass work, but the Bible counsels us to persevere and work hard:

Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth. (Proverbs 10:4, NIV)

Gamblers covet more money, but they may also covet the things money can buy, such as cars, boats, houses, expensive jewelry, and clothing. The Bible forbids a covetous attitude in the Tenth Commandment:

"You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor." (Exodus 20:17, NIV)

Finally, gambling provides a sense of false hope. Participants place their hope in winning, often against astronomical odds (LOL), instead of placing their hope in God.

Throughout the Bible, we are constantly reminded that our hope is in God alone, not money, power, or position:

Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. (Psalm 62:5, NIV)

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13, NIV)

Cards, dice, games of chance, and the like, are not inherently wrong. God's church has long understood that it is not the thing that is wrong, but the wrong use of the thing that results in sin. THE LAW OF USE AND DISUSE IN RETROSPECT. AND THIS APPLIES TO EVERY OTHER THING YOU CAN THINK OF - FOOD, DRINKS, MEN, WOMEN, SEX, ETC For example, a card or bingo game played for fun is not wrong even if poker chips, peanuts, or other items are used. In such cases, coveting is not involved. Thus, every such activity should be viewed from the standpoint of this principle: When an activity causes us to break one of God's Ten Commandments, it is a sin.

In conclusion, It is of course, not my intent to try to spell out or address every possible kind of activity which may involve putting up something of value for the chance of winning a reward. We should simply keep in mind the scriptural principles mentioned when making our decisions.

God holds each of us responsible for how we live. If we are truly yielded to Him and are seeking His Kingdom and righteousness first as Jesus instructs (Matthew 6:33), God will give us the wisdom to make the correct choices in our lives.

I sincerely pray and hope you stop gambling.... However, If you invest time and energy, plan, analyse and trade on sports outcome for possible gains and profits with the principle of moderation in mind, I wish you well.

Ever heard of the Berean christians? "Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.- Acts 17:11"

Good or Bad, the choice is yours...

Look at all of them quoting me. Most of them are going through serious depression caused by betting o. Enjoy your betting o, make I go face my own business.

Dont worry you will become a millionaire from betting, marry, raise kids, and enjoy your life with proceeds from betting. Lol. Awon ode.

My younger brother who stays with me was addicted to betting (sport betting, ajansare owonjono etc). He would bet with my money 'cos he doesnt work, just an aspiring footballer. He stole 12k, 20k and 40k from me to bet, just to mention the highest amounts. His whole life was crumbling, he became a menace, everyone in the family hated him, he didnt even like his own life but couldnt help it. I would send him to my Dad's place, the family will beg me to take him back. This is a boy I am planning to send to Europe to play football. I have spent up to a million on his football career already. A very skillful footballer. If I share his videos to watch you woould want to put your money on him. He is so good I can bet he can win the Ballon D'or someday, but betting was ruining his life.

So I stopped complaining and went online to get every material accessible, I became a psychologist for his sake. I counselled him with love deveryday and gradually he dropped his addiction. He is so completely free now that he feels like burning down every betting shop he sees. I have tested him on countless occasions and he passed. He cant even steal 50 naira from me again.

Most of you guys on this thread can relate with my brother's ugly experience cos you are going through same but wont admint

In the end, everyone has his own cross to carry. Let me carry mine.

Bros you may be right or wrong but in my own case you got it wrong. I came to Lagos over a few months ago with only but 30k which I exhausted within a month. I searched for job without getting any, then I took to betting for survival.
I was lucky that after trying a couple of times I won huge amount of money through a booking code I copied here in nairaland. I'm still in search of job up till date at the same time patronising betting shops for survival and fun as I usually go to the betting shop in the evening to crack jokes with my fellow unemployed youths.
If e no favor you that means e no go favor another person.
All thanks to obikush , Calebsky , georgeben and a whole lots of others whom I have made use of their games in the past.

Note the bolded blue above, all this activities above me is been done in fear and secretly that is what make it evil while gambling is not, carry cocaine is not evil or sin in d Bible but the government condemn it while they accept sport betting you can now see the different

(Rom 13)

1 All of you must obey those who rule over you. There are no authorities except the ones God has chosen. Those who now rule have been chosen by God.

2 So whoever opposes the authorities opposes leaders whom God has appointed. Those who do that will be judged.

3 If you do what is right, you won’t need to be afraid of your rulers. But watch out if you do what is wrong! You don’t want to be afraid of those in authority, do you? Then do what is right, and you will be praised.

4 The one in authority serves God for your good. But if you do wrong, watch out! Rulers don’t carry a sword for no reason at all. They serve God. And God is carrying out his anger through them. The ruler punishes anyone who does wrong.

5 You must obey the authorities. Then you will not be punished. You must also obey them because you know it is right.

From the Bible quote above you can see that that those activities you mention in line with gambling are not sin but is sin because the authority forbid then but they approve sport betting

Are you saying those Christian that also do a business that involved win/lose are also gambling, Take it as example here in my area at akwa ibom, sea is there main source of income atimes they went to sea with fuel of 25k and come back with the crayfish of 10k not even upto that atimes is that also make it gambling and they are many business like it too.

2. Gambling is motivated by greed. Let’s be honest and admit that greed lies at the heart of all gambling. The desire to get something for nothing is really another name for covetousness (Exod. 20:17; Prov. 21:25-26).
If this is true what about those who play visa lottery too are they also greedy? but people still honor them when the result come out to be good, why

Have you not hear or read?

Mark 12:17

Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”

I think you get this wrong, if you have money that does not stop you to serve God, only if your money takes the first place in your life which is God place, then that is when your money become idol and idol and God did not have something in common

Exodus 20

3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

Your money only become another god's when give it more attention or have time for him than God

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (1 Timothy 6:10, NIV)
The love of money is evil but having money is not evil get that.

Ecclesiastes 10:19 King James Version (KJV)

19 A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.

Don't have much to say about this, SKIPED

Finally, gambling provides a sense of false hope. Participants place their hope in winning, often against astronomical odds (LOL), instead of placing their hope in God.
Remember some people have make it in life with gambling especially sport betting and some have commit suicide because of it( Those are people who led all there hope on it and don't play it for fun but they put all there money on it) which means one man food is another mans posion

True but all this still have nothing to do with sport betting

In conclusion it is clear and proof that bible do not say or condemned anything about sport betting and the government which our leaders too do not, they approved it instead, so there is nothings evil in playing sport betting but if you have not been playing betting before don't go there ooo because I said it no eveil, ehhh may God bless our hustle, STILL IN PUNTING BREAK

All thanks to obikush , Calebsky , georgeben and a whole lots of others whom I have made use of their games in the past.
but sincerely bro, try to work more on improving your self to get job offers, being unemployed and betting at the same time is dangerous

[s]Isn't it rather saddening that a lot of our youths have become lazy, addicts, thieves and have their lives ruined because of you guys? We have even read cases of how many of them committed suicide after losing heavily to you guys, after using their school fees, accomodation fee, feeding allowance, stole their parents and other peaople's money to place betting on your website.

Oga Akin Alabi, I miss those days you held seminars accross Nigeria, especially at Ojeagbasi's success digest seminars. Those days we looked forward to your publications in the magazines every week, teaching young people how to make money legitimately through the internet: Google adsense, affiliate marketing etc. RIP to those days.

May the lord judge us all.

PS: Seun, I thought you once banned topics and discussions promoting betting of any kind on this forum. Still wondering why this thread has 91k+ views and not looking like it is going to be deleted anytime soon[/s].

Note the bolded blue above, all this activities above me is been done in fear and secretly that is what make it since while gambling is not, carry cocaine is not even sin in Bible but the government condemn it while they agree gambling you can now see the different
