We chose the pack and play because our room didn't have space to take a wooden cot (I would have preferred the wooden cot if we had space)

So do your calculations, do you have enough space to take a wooden cot?

Akorkor,

Su.gah has answered ur question.

My dd's stool is darker and smellier now that she had started solids. I just try to avoid constipation by giving water.

Ur schedule is fine. Ur doing nothing wrong

So I'm thinking... U can reduce the banana to 1ce a week, except ur daughter drinks water well.
Okay. Thank you. I will do just that by reducing the banana intake to once a week. She has started taking more water too. @jazzjazz, she will be 7 month on Saturday

Comes with something that's like a mattress.
They have several types. I got the one with a reversible napper and changer.
When you go to a baby store you can ask them to show you

TUESDAY Apple Puree Tom Brown BreastMilk+Similac
WEDNESDAY Carrot Puree Rice Pudding BreastMilk+Similac
THURSDAY Banana Puree Sweet Potato BreastMilk+Similac
FRIDAY Apple Puree Mixagrain BreastMilk+Similac
SATURDAY Banana Puree NuttyMeal BreastMilk+Similac
SUNDAY Mango Puree Soya Beans+Wheat BreastMilk+Similac

I will be introducing Oatmeal Later to her. Also Avocado in her next meal

I do not think there is anything wrong with your meal plan. Just make sure she gets loads of water and fibres in her diet. Her body will adjust

My issue with pap-pi meals are they contain no fibres whatsoever, so they are not great for digestion and the bowels, because the fibres are strained off and only the starch is retained.

So keep giving her a good mix of different foods and give her water whilst she is eating. After every few spoons, give a few sips of water.

Or you can always make sure you feed solid first and then give a small bottle of milk. This is what i did between 6 and 10 months.
After i feed my baby solid, i will give a small bottle ( 200ml) of milk as final course. The milk was also made with bit less formular for the amount of water. And that worked for us, never had constipation issues.

You can also add some prune puree to her diet, however i would say do not feed her the entire pouch in one go. Spread it out over 2 -3 days... it will help her poop.

AlphaMAMA, how body?

so i'd like to ask..... Is there a minimum quantity of milk a baby who has started solids should take daily?
I noticed my DD is no more interested in only milk feeds (she hardly finshes 150ml of formula except she is very very hungry unlike b4), but when u mix milk with her cereals she takes it well.

Should I just add more milk to her cereals and reduce the number of plain formula feeds?

I am fine thanks. Hope you are doing good yourself.

I dont think there is. But think there is a reccommended amount. If you check the can of aptamil or other milk, they usually give an amount, but i think this is based on the vitamin contents in each milk fred so that the baby can reach the recommended daily allowance.

The thing is once they have started solids, they usually get fuller so there is no great apertite for milk. Especially immediately after a meal.

Once you have established 3 solid meals a day, you can use the milk to supplement as "snack" at other times inbetween meals. She may take it better then.

Just save your money and extend the life of your formular. give her the small quantity that she will finish. If she needs more, you can always make a bit to top up.

Hi mommas. What infant milk did you start baby with either because of delayed breastmilk or no lactation? And what kind/number of feeding bottles can a first time mum purchase either for expressing or infant milk.

Thanks

Enfamil, Aptamil, Similac, SMA, NAN are good choices depending on ur pocket. My lo has been on Aptamil since birth. Get between 5 and 8 bottles. It all depends on your pocket too. You can decide to get more. Tommee tippee, Avent are popular and good brands here in Lagos. I hear Avent now have a lot of fakes in the market so watch out

Sorry, this sha pass soon. Dont worry yourself, most babies have catarrh or cold at least eight(cooltimes within a year which make their immune system stronger. My baby has catarrh too, although i pass it to her because my own nose sef was blocked.

All i did was bath with hot water, use shear butter to her chest, then i have this Mentholatum i used too(mom bought it for me) its not strong at all... and i use Vitamin C. When i took her to hospital they prescribed drugs for me but when i checked the drugs i saw that its meant for 1-6 years old so i just pack them at one side.

Continue giving breastcmilk as breakfast or as refreshment if you are not going to creche then after that you can give solid.

Note that starting solid does not mean you stop breastfeeding or giving formula because LOs still needs all the nutrient from Breast milk to develop.

Newborn baby: What you need to check.

The newborn baby’s first cry always brings a smile to everyone around him. But, to see if this baby is really healthy, the doctor will perform a physical examination within 24 hours. After the immediate examination of the baby to indicate the Apgar score, a full body check-up is done.

Virginia Apgar (1909-1974) was an Anaesthesiologist that introduced the Apgar score in 1952 to quickly check the health of a newborn baby.

The Apgar test includes 5 factors:

1. Appearance
2. Pulse
3. Grimace response
4. Activity
5. Respiration.

It is usually given to a baby twice: once at 1 minute after birth, and again at 5 minutes after birth.

This examination starts with the measurement of body weight, length and head circumference of the baby. Then the doctor examines the newborn’s skin, head and neck, heart and lungs, abdomen and genitals and also the nervous system and reflexes in order to check all the body systems and organs. Moreover, to be clear with the presence of health issues that will not get detected in physical examination, the doctors might do routine screening tests as well.

Skin

The doctor will examine the skin colour of the newborn baby, which is maybe reddish, but the fingers and toes may have a bluish tinge due to the poor blood circulation during the first few hours. Yellow colour appearance of the skin within 24 hours requires further assessment.

Head and Neck

The head circumference is measured with a tape and the fontanelle and sutures are palpated. This Baby Infant Growth Chart Calculator is useful to check the development up to 2 years. The size of the fontanelle can be varying. While the saggital suture will be often separated, the coronal suture can be overriding.

Caput succedaneum which refers to the swelling, or edema, of a newborn’s, usually disappears on its own within several days. It appears as a lump or a bump on their head and is caused by the pressure from the dilated cervix or vaginal walls during the delivery.

Examination of the head, face (including palate) and neck of the newborn will reveal the presence of any birth defects or abnormalities that occurred during delivery. A normal delivery, in which the head delivers first, might cause slight reversible defects of the skull. But, this will disappear within 7-14 days. Also, some swelling and bruising are typical. These problems are common when the baby is delivered through the birth canal (vaginal delivery). Not only skull defects but defects of the face might also occur.

Heart and Lungs

Auscultation, heart rate, and skin color are checked to see if the newborn baby’s circulation and respiration are up to the norm. Any heart murmurs during auscultation require further investigations. The normal heart rate of a newborn baby is 110-160 beats/ min while this could be reduced up to 85 beats/ min during sleep.

The chest wall movements will be seen during respiration and respiratory rate in newborns are rapid than in adults. The rate is almost 30-60 breaths/ minute. Grunting, flaring nostrils and a poor cry can indicate problems in the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. During this phase of the check-up, any presences of basic birth defects of the heart and lungs are cleared out.

Abdomen and Genitals

The doctor will examine the abdomen and its size, shape, and position of internal organs, such as the kidneys, liver, and spleen. Enlarged kidneys may indicate a blockage to the outflow of urine while a distended stomach may indicate a problem with the bowels and other organs.

Examination of the genitals is necessary to identify the gender and also to see the urinary and genital organs are defect free. The doctor will check whether the urethra is open and is in the proper location. It is necessary to see of the testicles are descended in a boy.

It is normal to have swollen labia in a baby girl for first few weeks and also a blood discharge through the vagina is also possible and is not an anomaly.

Anus should be checked to make sure the opening is normally placed and not sealed shut.

Nerves, muscles, and bones

The newborn baby has certain reflexes and the doctor will check these reflexes of the baby to conclude his nervous system is healthy.
The limbs will be checked to see the muscular functions and so also the bones will be checked to see if the baby has bones broken during the delivery.
Also, it is important to check the hip bones to see if there are any developmental defects. This will be performed at the end as this procedure will make the baby uncomfortable.

A complete physical check-up reassures the health of your baby and is therefore necessary to perform in the first 24 hours after birth.

I dont want tha IUD o,ive read alot that it shifts!
Biko these two blessed children are enuf as i don hang boots!

Sabi mamas,mk una no read and pass abeg.

Thanks.
The cut is not a big one ooo. It's just to allow the tiny stick go under the skin and they'll give you local anaesthethic. Visit www.honeyandbanana.com to learn about the diff family planning. Ps. I just got IUD on sunday, yes it can come out but thats why you're to check for the first 3months after your period. If it stays, you're good for 5-10years. another option, i used the 3month injection called sayana press before having my baby. For the injection and implanon, you cant use them if you're obese, have heart disease, stroke, liver disease or a close family member(mother or sister) that has or had cancer.

Why did you administer nospamin? Doctor's advise? Was advised against it sternly but to always use warm water for their navel and tommy area. Warm water, then take clean small towel, dip inside the warm water and use it to massage the tommy slowly, do that to the navel area too. Do it like every time you bath her. This was all we did and my babies never cry of tommy pains.

Note: this warm water is very necessary for massaging their bodies, I can't remember how long my granma did it but was over 3 months.

I still give milk mixed with cereal in a bottle. Like 7scops cereal 5scops milk and she takes about 5 to 6 bottles daily then nibbles on other foods. Sucks only at night...

Is it okay?

Or i should do milk separately as a drink?
Cos d cereal sef has milk.

My madam has refused to eat well.
She prefers bottle.
She doesn't pay attention to food when u r feeding her...
Then once she sights water... thats d end of d food.
And no pepper in d food o.
She just loves water and drinks almost one liter daily

Pls any tips or advise.

@enque on baby falling down
Chia we suffered o
Ma babe fell from d bed twice. Once from me and another from hubby.
Then i carried her one day and doozed off and she fell... this was early early sef like 12wèks

Well d one dat broke d camels back was when we were sleeping at night. I just heard her screaming.
I looked and saw her on d floor... haaaa.
Madam wont sleep on her bed and she can turn 4 africa.
I spend my nights hald awake keeping her in place but that night... i didnt know what happened.

When we woke up.. we just jejely put our bed on d floor and carried the wood out.
Cant shout.
Her own bed too is open.
She is climbing mistress now so she climbs into hers from ours.... then she has learnt how to come down from d bed herself... leg first.

I thought i will die tjose days she fell but what i thank God for was that she was always screaming after falling... God forbid she feel hard and kept quiet.

Dont beat yourself.
Just try 4 ways to make everything easy for her.
This movt time is something else.
We have emptied the tins on d floor.... now everything is up up.
Its only her toy thats on d floor now.
Even cables and extention boxea r hanging... cos u won't say u will hold her always and not alloe her to explore.

Ps
I couldn't sè ur post where u complained but i saw other mamas comments.
