More coys like Nigeria Breweries, Diageo plc, PZ Cusson, Unilever, etc have joined the caucus of organisation using assessment centre to judge the proficiency of candidates which makes the quality of their employees reputable in job market and also standardised the brand image of the organisation.

Though there are some job openings (experienced) that does not require this form of recruitment but rather one - one interview

please, I fractured my wrist and a cast was placed on it since 6 weeks ago.
my concern now is that, I heard a lot of people saying "An arm cast becomes itchy whenever it's healing" but in my own case, for the past 6 weeks that the arm cast has been there, I've never felt any itches on the wrist.


What could be the cause?
This is not a medical thread, go to a hospital and seek the doctors advise.

Going through a rigorous and career toe interview process is an experience even if you don't scale through hence give you the opportunity to excel when you find yourself in another multinational firms

That's a step in the right direction considering the fact that interviewers at times can be emotional thereby choosing the least qualified candidate while leaving the most qualified simply because they just like him or her

assessment centers do not really test how competent an individual is on a job because the assessments arent job based. is it essay that the candidate will be writing when employed? its just another means of screening out people. that a person fails an essay doesnt mean he cant excel in other areas.

Assessment centres arent the true test of one's ability.

What experience does a fresh graduate possess in the first place? The reason companies are using all these complicated methods of recruitment is because the candidate population is too much.

First it was interviews, then came aptitude test, followed by 2.1 then came requirements for second degree and reality shows and other rubbish.

The fact is supply for labor outweighs its demand.

Every company I've worked for used assessment tests but yet when hired I've shared the office with most sociopathic and psychopathic coworkers I've ever met. I mean beyond the wall insane people in IT: useless 4chan and Reddit personalities undecided who are/were the most underperforming ediots I've ever met. it's only a matter of time before they'll know how to beat your test

Assessment is just another way to prune down the massive number of candidates who applied for a position. This is so common with fresh graduates.

For experienced hire nothing like assessment. It's just interview CV based and a large chunk of luck.

Years back, interview used to be the sole criteria used by employers to assess candidates’ suitability for employment. Today, more and more companies are using Assessment Center. Shell was arguably the first to start using it in Nigeria through their globally famous Shell Recruitment Day (SRD – which has now been dropped by them too). Organizations like KPMG, PwC, First Bank, Oando, NLNG amongst others have also joined the fray of Assessment Center as a tool to test candidate.


Now, why are companies no longer relying on interview only?

1, Talk is cheap:
Some candidates can talk very well but when it comes to real work. Oral communication ability, while it is very good, doesn’t necessarily make one a star performer. Candidates with privileged background that attended good schools are usually good talkers, and may easily bamboozle (or bobo) the interviewer to awe. Interview is just one of the tools of assessment center. It sees how they perform in other areas too.

2, Multiple Tools Can’t Be Wrong: Assessment center involves in addition to interview other tools like group discussion or group task, case study, oral presentation, role play (in others), and sometimes written essay. Interview only tests your oral communication, it doesn’t test your presentational skills, it doesn’t test your written communication skills, it doesn’t test team work or leadership skill. So, for you to have passed an assessment center, you must have done well in these multiple assessment tools. They can’t be wrong



3, Interview Can Be Too Mechanical:
Interview is becoming too boring and predictable these days that companies don’t think it is sufficient enough to test a candidate’s ability. There are millions of articles on the internet on interview, hundred of thousands of standard questions with standard answers. Candidates have access to so much information on interview that companies now think performance at interview should be taken with a pinch of salt. Assessment center is relatively new, with questions not so structured and predictable, or at least much room for nuances.

Although most companies in Nigeria still use interview-only approach to testing candidates, Assessment center will continue to gain momentum.

fact is assessment centres just pose fresh inadequacies of its own in truly assessing candidates.

it tends to favour the more vocal persons against personalities who like to study matters deep before reacting.
candidates in trying to outshine one another get into all stuffs. people are never real in such conditions. I remember my experience where everyone wanted to speak loudest, everyone wanted to lead, we had no clear leader, no delegation of tasks, everyone wanted to do everything, incoherence disorganized.. that's how poor assessment centres can be.
we should promote whatever will allow candidates to be real and be themselves without fear. a task in a relaxed mood, devoid of the "examination condition". people should be made to "forget" they are being assessed.
that way, the right candidate will be determined

Good you have that mentality but great CEO/Chairmen were once employees and working with multinational atimes give one an insight to run his/her business smoothly

Some companies employ the working interview. You basically follow someone and help them with their job for about 2 weeks. I believe this is the best way to assess a person's skill set.
