I think the psychology behind such acts is two fold: First to strip one literally of his or her dignity so that such a person becomes a recluse in society and cannot 'operate' in public anymore without some instant recognition and secondly, to terrorise other potential culprits to have rethink before they act bearing in mind the terrible consequences that await them if caught.

But my view has always been that punishment that is excessive of the criminal act often leads to an escalation of the tendency to commit more crime be it in a civilised society such ad the States which regularly executes and barbaric societies like ours which go beyond that and totally dehumanize the culprit. I may be wrong but Europe which is one of the older civilisations had a history of this sort of barbarity but today crime rates are significantly low partly due to right punishment regimes of de-escalating violence and proper justice. We have a long way to go as a society.

Sir, I agree with you totally that stripping criminals is evil and should be outlawed. It's an uncivilized act. However, I disagree with you on the emphasis "especially women." The simple rule should be no stripping of criminals no matter the gender. I still don't understand why some men keep quiet when a man is stripped but rush to criticize when a woman is stripped. Stripping suspects is evil no matter the gender. I don't subscribe to the idea that a woman's body is special than a man's body. Both are equally special and should be respected equally and both should not be violated.
