The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday, stated that threats by pro-Biafran groups would not stop it from conducting elections in the South-East.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Enugu State, Emeka Ononamadu, said this while addressing journalists in Enugu.

He described the threat by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to boycott the Anambra State governorship election as bizarre.

Ononamadu made it clear that the INEC was not bothered by the threats, stating that elections would take place and winners will be declared.

“I don’t think that we have such a challenge here in Enugu. “However, I will say that, no matter the agitation, elections are crucial to the government and people must come out to vote; somebody must be declared winner and INEC is there to do that.

“INEC has no business with calls for secession or boycott; our mandate is to conduct elections to fill certain positions.

“At the end of the day, Enugu must have a governor in 2019, whether it is just one person that manages to come out to vote,” he said.

The thought of missing out alone is heart wrenching.

The boycott is not about influencing who wins the election. Ipob doesn't care about who becomes the governor.
What Ipob care about is getting the people to withdraw from politics of Nigeria. If Ipob can get 70℅ or more of registered voters not to participate in the election, the boycott would have been succes. Ipob would have proved the world that they have the support of the people.
The election boycott would prove that the people have lost faith in Nigeria as a whole.
The boycott is about proving that the people don't want to be part of Nigeria any longer by not taking part in any election.

But wait ooo, which election are they forcing people to participate in ?
The one people will stand under the sun from morning till night to get accredited and at the end of the day, some hoodlums will attack the ballot boxes, shoot sporadically in the air, leave the lucky ones injured and unlucky ones killed ?
Who doesn't know that election don't take place in Nigeria?. Winners are always declared before the D day.
Is governor Ikpeazu suppose to be the governor of Abia state instead of Uche ogar ?
Is Theodore Oji suppose to be a senator today ? (Someone that was defeated in his polling unit )
Why should people risk their lives to participate in an election while those candidates left their children abroad ?
How many politicians children have you seen at the pooling unit before ?
Even without Nnamdi Kanu's directives, voting participation is useless as long as Nig is concerned.

This issue of boycott shouldn't only be in igbo land alone,it should be across the nation to tell these politicians that they are nobody today without the masses that put them there.
Enough is enough !!.

At least, a family member of the aspirants will vote and a winner will be declared. much people are not needed to declare a winner. the constitution says, a simple majority of votes cast

If at least one person votes, then its not zero turnout. In fact the press will capture the very few people voting and there cant be cases of zero turnout. There is no where in the world that you will hear of zero turnout when the first to vote will even be the aspirants themselves.

Most of those shouting for a boycott are not even from Anambra or even residing here, just repeating what their god had brainwashed them with.

I thought the FG was confident and was of the opinion that the Igbos do not want to secede Why not conduct a referendum to clear the doubt undecided

If the people truly wishes to depart of this country filled with greedy/selfish leaders, eat and die alone rulers, why not let them be

From my point of view, those still interested in Nigeria are the greedy ones who has no interest in serving the people but milking them undecided

This is what we are saying, this country is not matured enough for this Democracy thing or may be the policy makers don't have the mind set of what real democracy is.

Election boycott is a great threat to democracy especially when people involved have agitations like this.
INEC is absolutely clueless about their role and stands when there is a threat like this. cry

Before nko? I have never witnessed a free and fair election in Nigeria. INEC has election results before the election. Election day in Nigeria is just to fulfil all righteouness. So the boycott don't make a difference with INEC.

INEC!, INEC!!

That's not true. There is nothing that says so in the Constitution or the electoral laws. Please produce the section of law that says that.
