Yea bro i also think petroleum engineering is poo as other engineers (mech, chem,elect etc) have equal oppurtunities in the oil and gas industry as d pet eng guys and those guys can work in just about any establishment ..So what do u think about marine eng will it get him a job in nigeria after graduation ??

Meanwhile a friend of mind just got double admissions to study petroleum engineering and marine engineering in fupre and Rsust respectively he is confused on which one to accept i personally think he should go for marine engineering coz a petroleum engineer can only work in an oil company n i think the oil and gas industry is congested coz these days every graduate wants to work in an oil company and graduating from a petroleum university even with first class does not guarantee him an oil n gas job what do u think??

Instead of Marine let him do Mechanical, elect/elect or civil engineering. The reality is that mechanical engineers fit in vastly into several fields including Marine and petroleum engineering after short programmes and trainings

Yes, I also have a degree mechanical but the reality is that in many schools, courses like Marine engineering always have few students who mostly chose the course as second choice and the HODs may not sign and approve Change of Course Forms in 200 level which will reduce the number of students in their departments, and make it look less viable to the school authorities, you realize that out of 50 admitted 30 students have the same ambition. They will give you the option of either continuing or write another Jamb.

You will see HODs telling the students 'my department is not a stepping stone to other departments'
