Yes Solar energy is the way to go now. I have been in solar energy business for some years now. We have done several installations in various parts of Lagos state especially the Lekki, Ajah axis, Ibadan, Ogun, Uyo, Calabar, Eket, PortHarcourt etc. I can comfortably say that this is the way out. I have some clients who have depended 100% on solar power (off grid). We have installed solar system ranging from 500W to our maximum of 20kW for now. I have personally installed a 3kw solar system in my house and have run it for one yr now without any issue. In the one year i have had to start Generator for a total of 3 times when we eventually ran out of power for few reasons; One was when there was a constant overcast for 4 days, second was when there was a higher demand for power in the night than normal and 3rd time was when i mistakenly left my AC in turbo mode all night which draw more current than in regular or eco mode. All the same, Imagine that i have used less than 20litters of fuel for one year meanwhile we leave a very regular life using all our facilities at home including washing machine, drying machine, microwave, fridge and freezer, water dispenser, electric iron etc.

I leave in Uyo. If you are around the area you can call in to see things for yourself. If you are in any of those cities I mentioned and you want to check out any of our installations you can call in so i can refer you to the nearest one.

you can check out our installation portfolio on our Facebook page "PBASE Solar"

Hi friend thank u so much for this post. I am ready to patronise u but b4 that we need to get some things clear;
1. I will like to the one u installed on ur house to measure the efficiency.
2. Tell me the brand name of solar products u're marketing, many companies in china manufacture cheap fake solar sets. If yours is made in US, we are ready to go.
3. Does ur product come with any company warranty and guaranteed life span. Solarcity panels has 25 yrs guaranteed lifes pan.
My 5 bed bungalow is in uli anambra state. If u are sure of the product u are marketing, reach me on 08084255444 lets start asap.

CHARGING YOUR BATTERY WITH SOLAR PANELS
Investing in solar panels will allow you to charge your deep cycle battery with free energy from the sun, even when away from mains power. After panels have been placed in the sun, they will need to be attached to a solar regulator, also known as a charge controller. 12 volt solar panels can produce fluctuating power that would damage a battery if left unregulated but the solar charge controller keeps this voltage at a safe level. Most solar regulators also have the technology to switch to float charge when the battery has reached full capacity; eliminating the problem of overcharging.

We were incorporated in the state of New Jersey in 2013 and registered in Nigeria in 2014. Two members of our executive team have taken NABCEP certified training in solar design and installation in the United States and have also taken battery based PV systems training administered by PACE University in New York,

We have installed about 50 systems in Nigeria and one in Accra Ghana. We were ranked #3 out of 11 companies lighting up Africa by smallstarter.com.

A few months ago, we were chosen by Gilat Satcom as a solutions partner for a rural high speed internet pilot by the Nigerian Communications Commission. We installed solar power for 10 off the grid remote VSAT Kiosks in Adamawa, Borno, Kano, Katsina, Oyo and Yobe States. The projects have been running without any disruption since May/June.

A lot of our customers either live in areas with poor or no grid power. Our customers prior to going solar spent as little as N2000 / day or N60,000 to as much as N300,000 per month on the extreme. As you know the experience in Nigeria is that fuel prices have risen faster than inflation. We have gone from N95 to N143 per liter in less than 12 months, who knows what the future will hold.

You solution is the Schneider Electric SW 2524. You are purchasing one of the best manufacturers in the world with sales of over 26 billion Euros. They provide equipment that will last longer than 10 years and a two year warranty to match. It is feature rich and can allow people with prepaid meters to realize further savings on their utility bills.

There is no argument that can sustain the fact that using solar system is cheaper than using generator. No one can justify that. On the average, a three bedroom flat should be on nothing less than 2KVA.

Barcholder:
Large scale Solar Energy Installations are now springing up in Lagos, Abuja and Owerri amongst other places. Systems are being used to power Hospitals, Universities, Hotels, and residential homes and housing estates.

My 5 Bedroom Detached House in Lekki, Lagos, has been powered exclusively by Solar Energy for the past month, without a single glitch. That includes all AC's.

What's more, the price of Solar Energy is considerably cheaper than generators. Look out for a rapid increase in the number of houses being powered by Solar Energy, particularly in the Lagos and Abuja regions. In addition, a new 1,000 unit housing estate will shortly be built in Abuja (Gwagwalada), that will become the first ever solar city in Africa.

All comments are appreciated.

Barcholder:

Is that one bedroom, or a one bedroom apartment? To completely power a self contained apartment, you would require a 1kWp system. I have based this on the following assumptions:

Fan - 15 hours a day
Lights - 4 in number - 3 hours a day each
TV - 6 hours viewing a day
Fridge - 24 hours

This system would give you 24 hours a day of energy, on the assumption that there is ZERO PHCN supply. With PHCN, you will require less than this.

We currently retail our 1kWp system for N700k, inclusive of -

4 x 250watt Mono Solar Panels
2KVA Inverter
Complete Wiring
2 x 12V 200AH Batteries
Solar Charge Controller (protects your batteries from overcharging, therefore extends their useful life to 5 years)
Full Installation

I hope this answers your question.
