What do you know? He didn't resign, he stepped aside as he was directed by God to do so. He is now called pope emeritus

Most reverend, with due respect Christianity is not a cult group where once you took an oath you cannot pull out but a body of Christ....nobody is meant to to serve perpetually...he is at liberty to pull out if he is so wish.....that's why we are Christians no need to make the body of Christ look like a cult group. thank you.
Very true and sensible.
The Catholic church is obviously an entity on its own, this action alone buttress the well known fact that it's cult of the Roman gods woen the cloak Christianity.

Oooo No! You got it wrong here. Pope is not ordained into 'popehood' i.e papacy. He is just elected by cardinals; he is not taking any vow. The position is simply elective and rather involuntarily 'compulsive' so to say.
But priesthood is entirely different. A priest must take some oath/vow voluntarily, must attain some age; minimum of 25years....before being ordained into priesthood. Priests and bishops are ordained while pope is always elected from within the ordained i.e the Bishops (Cardinals rather).

To become a priest is not by force
He has every right to resign if he thinks he can't keep to his vows as a Catholic priest.
Rather than constituting nuisance.

This sounds like a dangerous cult. The former Rev. Father should get security in case these religious fanatics try to kill him.
He belongs to the church and will be dealt with accordingly. It is no business of yours

It is only a cult that refuses disinterested members from leaving. Is it by force to be Father or Catholic again?

He belongs to God not your church. he wants out, and that's not a crime.

Who is the POPE or any other for that matter to stop the young man, if he has a justifiable reason which I believe at some point all and sundry in that MAFIA of an organization portrayed as the house of God will come to the LIGHT... I CAN CATEGORICALLY SAY THEY ARE ALL TEACHINGS OF SATAN THERE BECAUSE THEY REFUSED TO LISTEN TO GOD...

Do you know that Jesus who is God is the head of "the church"?
Lool we know Jesus who is God is the head of the " Church" the church means the whole body of Christianity not a particular denomination alone.

The context in this thread is service to the catholic church. Perpetual service to the church as its stated her means perpetual service to the catholic church not the "church" which is the embodiment of all Christians.

Anybody can leave any church at any time , the manner and way he leaves is what matters if its Godly and not causing division and strife or taking members from one church to build yours.

To become a priest is not by force, but once you become a priest you are bound by the promises and vows you made to God to serve him and his Church.

He knew all these when he became priest he knew what the priesthood demands, he knew the promises he made to God and his Church.

It is very posible to resign, but he also knows the process, he needs to be freed from the promises he made... He knows the process, his bishop will forward his resignation to the pope and the he will be freed from the reponsibilities of the priesthood. This is what happens whenever a priest wishes to resign.

It's not by force to remain a Rev Fr. It's his choice, whether Pope hears it or not, he has decided.

I don't really have your time. The Rev father is not stepping aside but resigning from priesthood which means he would be stripped of his priesthood; he will no longer conduct mass, hold any item that belongs to catholic and would not be called a priest. The power bestowed on him the day he was ordained would be stripped off him. He will only become a pastor and should try not to mislead any catholic member who have been attending his prayer ministry when he was a priest. Priesthood is not like pastors who claimed ordain when they are not.

“From Today Henceforth, I cease to be a Catholic Priest, in my spirit and in my soul… I forgive those who will criticize me, I live for God…I seek freedom for my soul. As I leave, I leave smiling, I AM SO HAPPY THAT I AM FREE,” Rev Edet Patrick
