Rusts can be prevented by use of ship or marine paints or even antitrust compounds such as rubberized paints and thin layer of tar.

Heat can be prevented by use of plywood installed in vacuum or even having felts and polystyrene.

I love this concept but folks in this part of the globe won't love such.
Container homes and offices are quite common in Nigeria. undecided Oil companies in the Niger-Delta use it to provide accommodation for their workers in Sapele, Warri and a few areas in Port-harcourt. If you get to NTA Lagos inside their Victoria Island premises, you would find portacabin offices made from containers. undecided They have been there for over a decade. There is also a posh event hall called Harbour Point on Wilmot Point Road, in Victoria Island, that was built using just containers. It seats over 800 people. The owners rent it out for almost =N=₦2.8 million per day.

bigfather:
but its new in Naija
It is not. undecided A lot of oil servicing companies and major oil firms use it to provide accommodation to their workers. Construction companies use it on site, as offices. Ever heard of the word 'portacabin,' in Nigeria? many of them are made from containers. cheesy

Mambox:
I should have added that it's used by civilians, youth corps members and security details. It's a normal community is I'll say. Stores are there too.
Exactly. You are so right! cheesy In fact, a few banks now use 20ft containers for their ATM enclosures. I have even seen a fast food restaurant being built with a container. The fast food chain wanted to expand their no. of outlets, and could not afford to buy several plots of land, in different districts. undecided So they worked out a plan, by building the fast food outlets using containers, to a template designed by their architect, and then transporting these container outlets to various sites, they had leased in the forecourt of different petrol stations. It worked. cool

Explorers:
Though the house doesn’t look like much from the outside, aside from the overhead light and potted plants, but it’s absolutely beautiful inside.

Let’s take a tour of this fully furnished home.

But what if sth happens, it's not really stable
its more stable than regular buildings... They are wind fire and water resistant which is why they can be stacked so high on ships while shipping goods. They can take a good Amount of bashing as opposed to block structures. During hurricanes abroad, while other houses and buildings are torn down, container homes were found intact.
