mavinc4u:It still remains between him and God and not subject to the judgement of men like you. God asked him to resign to serve another purpose. |

1stCitizen:No, he did not take an oath to remain a pope forever. The Cannon law does not allow that. The Pope is primarily a priest and he performs his liturgical duties as a priest not as a pope. Every priest makes a solemn vow to remain a priest forever. |

1stCitizen:God did not ask him anything, he is probably doing it because of the money he feels he makes from his ministry. In catholics, there are things you can't do as a priest; you can't build house, buy cars and the rest. There are limits to what you can do, all your money belongs to the poor as that was part of the vow they took while portraying in front of the altar of God and entering a big covenant with God. I don't blame most of them because in the name of modernization, some priest have turned catholic into pentecostal which is the reason they are facing such things today. They need to go back to their old days. |

1stCitizen:That was retirement and besides Pope Benedict XVI still remains a valid "priest" in the church. Same cannot be said for Fr Edet |

faithugo64:It's called "due process". He's not responsible for himself and his decisions, when he took the oath he accepted that. The bishop to is answerable to the pope so don't make a mountain out of nothing. Report as used in the release is synonymous to making the pope "aware" of the situation on ground. |

1stCitizen:Simply put, he did not take any oath as a pope. Oath of what? Priests and bishops take oath of allegiance/obedience to their superior i.e the pope and his representantives worldwide. Pope is the Supreme Pontiff, answerable to only God, the Supreme Being. He is not owing any human person any obedience/loyalty as far as Catholic church is concerned. He can take suggestions/advice but never a command from anybody. Is it clear to you now? |
| Re: Catholic Bishop Reacts To Patrick Edet's Resignation: "The Pope Must Hear This" by mavinc4u(f): 11:41am On Aug 15, 2017 |
1stCitizen:Of course I know. God will never ask him to leave his priesthood to join pastorhood. There are steps they have to go through before becoming a priest, he would have backed out then but he chose to move forward and went as far as entering in a covenant with God that the only thing that would separate him from his works as a priest is death which he is indirectly calling upon. My dear, to be a priest is different from being a pastor. This generation has messed up everything. You don't back out after your final vow, otherwise your life would never remain the same. He can choose not to celebrate mass and become a residence priest but definitely not resigning from his priestly works. Many followed that part but by the time they realized their mistake, it was too late for them. Remember God is a jealous one especially to the ones he loves, you there not mess without him treating your mess up. |

mavinc4u:Bros I hail. Same God has made a request for a man to sacrifice his son as a test. Meaning we do not know his heart except for one person who sees the heart of God.....................YOU!!!! |
| Re: Catholic Bishop Reacts To Patrick Edet's Resignation: "The Pope Must Hear This" by mavinc4u(f): 12:31pm On Aug 15, 2017 |
1stCitizen:And what happened when that man was trying to kill his son, he was stopped by the same God because that was not his plan. He would have done something that would make the priest back out before his final vow and not backing out after his final vow if God has another plan for him. |

I never knew Catholics were this crazy. It really explains a lot about my husband and his family. I'm slowly pulling him out of his brainwashed state. Hopefully he doesn't crack like an egg before it happens. |

NoToPile:Do you know the church St Paul talks about as the pillar and foundation of truth in 1Tim 3:15? "Church" as defined by you, an embodiment of all Christians... 1) are you and your group of Christians the pillar and foundation of truth as defined by St Paul? 2) If answer to question 1 is yes, why do we have many christian denominations teaching different doctrines? 3) If answer to question 1 is no, where can we find that Church St Paul is talking about in 1Tim 3:15? |

jnrbayano:"Me and my group of christians" seriously? Anyway the church referred to in the scriptures is an embodiment of christains from all denominations not just one like you think and this statement of mine seems to be the one you( I am almost tempted to add " and your likes" ) have a problem with. As for your questions I will rather pass. Have a nice day. |
| Re: Catholic Bishop Reacts To Patrick Edet's Resignation: "The Pope Must Hear This" by aaccountable1: 4:19pm On Aug 15, 2017 |
"66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life"( John 6:66-67) Jesus did not bind any of his followers with an oath. not a single example is found in the new testament where believers a bound with such an oath. when you bind people under such an oath it becomes a cult and no longer Christ. |

| Re: Catholic Bishop Reacts To Patrick Edet's Resignation: "The Pope Must Hear This" by Ubenedictus(m): 8:41pm On Aug 15, 2017 |
NoToPile:The Church in scriptures is not a collection of denomination. There were no denomination then just the one Church with one faith. That one Church was later called the Catholic Church in the 2nd century because its mission is to the whole world. Your so - called denominations came 1500yrs later as enterprise formed by men preaching contradictory doctrines and dividing the body of Christ for personal gain and glory. So sorry your church wasn't the one Jesus said the gate of Hell will not prevail against, he was talking about the Church he built on the foundation of the apostle. If your church cannot trace itself back to 2000yrs ago to the apostles then you are in a Church of men.. . Some one's enterprise and the gate of Hell will certainly prevail there because it isn't the Church Jesus established on the apostles. Sorry your denominations doesn't count for much. |

Ubenedictus:Seems you missed where I said "christains from all denominations" you removed the "christains" and placed emphasis on denominations. Lool at the bolded is it a competition? I will still say it again, the "church" referred to in the bible is all christains irrespective of the whereever the worship (whatever denomination). Sorry that doesn't go down well with you, I really can't help that you have a problem with it. Bros have a good night, I don't argue religion. |
| Re: Catholic Bishop Reacts To Patrick Edet's Resignation: "The Pope Must Hear This" by Ubenedictus(m): 9:09pm On Aug 15, 2017 |
aaccountable1:Vows are not alien to the Christian faith. In fact the apostle Paul is recorded to have made a vow in act18:18 KJV: And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow. As you can see a Christian may make a vow to God, and when he does it is to be treated with seriousness for scriptures say my vows to the LORD i will fulfil. Fr edet made vows voluntarily to God and his Church to give his life for Service in the Church in a priestly capacity, to obey his superiors in all that isn't sinful, to live the radical life spoken in scriptures to give all for the sake of the gospel. If he no longer wish to live that life then his decision will be conveyed to the pope so the he can be freed from his vows to enable him lead the life he now wishes. The bishop is simply doing the needful, he has been stripped of all rights and privileges and faculties, titles etc of a priest, the last part is for him to be released from his vows of Service, the pope is the person competent when it comes to removing people from the clerical state and dispensing from vows made to God and the Church. There is nothing Wrong going on here. |

NoToPile:There are no denominations just one Church with one baptism, one Lord and one faith. Does your denominational Christian fit the bill? |

Ubenedictus:Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:29,30) compare with: "For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers" (Matt 23:4) Do not intentionally misunderstand me. we are looking at the way of Christ. Jesus gave his Desciples the choice to leave if they so choose. He will not compel you to remain in His service even against your will. only cults do that. |
| Re: Catholic Bishop Reacts To Patrick Edet's Resignation: "The Pope Must Hear This" by aaccountable1: 9:55pm On Aug 15, 2017 |
Ubenedictus:I repeat that such vows are unchristian and unscriptural. Jesus never extracted such vows from his Desciples or made it a prerequisite for them, like the Catholic Church has done. He gave them liberty to depart if they so choose. |
| Re: Catholic Bishop Reacts To Patrick Edet's Resignation: "The Pope Must Hear This" by aaccountable1: 10:01pm On Aug 15, 2017 |
Vows are not alien to the Christian faith. But the kind extracted by the Catholic Church ( the vow never to leave) from her priest are the same that characterise occultism not Christianity. |

aaccountable1:Atleast it seems you are aware that there exist a burden in Christ. Now listen to that burden Lk 14:26,27 “If any man come to Me and hate not his father and mother, and wife and children, and brethren and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whosoever doth not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. That is the burden of discipleship, you must deny yourself, hate mother and father and family and chose God instead that is the demand the gospel make. All these are chosen willingly and no body is compelling anyone to remain a priest against his will, infact it is the opposite every one in this case is making sure that fr edet is free, his bishop is makingThe sure he is allowed to pursue his new choice. And lastly fr edet isn't simply a disciple he is also a presbyter. |
