"...I have read some Nigerians state they are upset that President Buhari's medical bills in the UK are being picked up by the taxpayer. They say it is only 'moral' and 'ethical' that he should resign, so he'll be responsible for his own medical bills.

However, under Nigerian law, whether or not President Buhari is in office, his medical bills will continue to be paid by Nigeria.

Under the 'Remuneration Of Former Presidents And Heads OF State (And Other Ancillary Matters) Act CAP. R6 L.F.N. 2004:

Part 1: 5

(1) Free medical treatment for former Heads of State and their immediate family within Nigeria.
(2) Treatment abroad for former Heads of State and their immediate family where necessary at Federal Government expense

Thus it is seen that as part of the official benefits accorded to all former Presidents/Heads of State, they get their medical bills paid, whether for treatment in Nigeria or overseas.

Any Nigerian is free to argue the law is not fair and try to get it changed. We can demand greater funding in the health sector so all Nigerians get decent medical treatment etc etc

However, right now, the medical treatment of President Buhari is legal, and he is abiding by the law as it is currently constituted..."
