Gosh, did you just ask this?? Is Nigeria after all these years politically stable? This is unity begging at its worst form. It's like saying Yorubas can't live without Igbo's or Hausas. It's this sort of embarassing unity begging that makes us butt of jokes. There are many Yoruba enterpreneurs that are doing great in Ghana as well as other neighboring countries without qualms, so who says we can't be good neighbours with the others while doing business with one another?

The entire population of Kenya (East Africa's largest economy) is barely 40-million and yet it's doing great, even though their economy is only barely the size of Lagos (that doesn't even include the rest of the SW).

Even the Northerners have said they are not afraid to stand alone so why this unity begging for goodness sakes??
there is a need for massive sensitization of yoruba youths and to wake up the inner yoruba

Do you expect someone like him to know that having a Yoruba country doesn't necessarily mean that we can't have diplomatic relationship with other countries? Many of the Yoruba businesses on this thread have companies located in other countries.

No country stands alone. Having a Yoruba country simply means that we have all rights to govern and develop ourselves at our own pace. i.e Yorubas can emphasis on tourism, cultural exploration, natural resource exploration etc.

Hate is a strong word, it's a feeling I don't like entertaining. But....If na say I hate pesin, na unity begging Yorubas who are so ignorant of Yoruba success and commonwealth. Everything falls back on Nigeria's dilapidated education system.

Nigga is even quoting kiriji war...... o ma se. Are y'all still living in stoneages?

More than 47 top US universities teach the Yoruba language, European countries have also added Yorubas into their curriculum. Yoruba descendants of Brazil, Santeria worshipers of Cuba, Descendants in the Caribean countries like Haiti and Trinadad & Tobego etc.

Think of what we'll gain if we open our borders for tourism.

We aint just talking about cultural tourism o, think of opening resorts in Ogun and Ondo's shoreline, in addition with what we have in Lagos.

Gosh everytime I think of the possibility, I hate this country called Nigeria and our smesme so-called leaders.

Yoruba Spreading In Scandinavia- Scandinavian Schools Endorse Yoruba Language

Scandinavian countries – Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland – have approved the teaching of Yoruba language in their schools. Yoruba is predominantly spoken in South West Nigeria, and neighboring Benin Republic, by more than 40 Million people.

The Scandinavia countries gave the approval late in 2014 but it was disclosed by Victor Mobolaji Adewale, the Sweden coordinator of the Oodua Progressive Union (OPU), during the Europe meeting of the Union which held in Istanbul, Turkey.
Adewale, who also emerged as the deputy coordinator of the group in Europe, said the approval followed the launch of the union in Sweden on November 29, 2014, which was attended by government officials from the Scandinavian countries who thereafter approved the teaching of Yoruba language in their schools.

He said the union also has the OPU radio functioning in the Scandinavian countries, using it as a medium of popularising the Yoruba language and reaching out to people of like minds. “We are happy to report that the Yoruba language has got the approval of the authorities for it to be taught in schools in the Scandinavian countries. It is a major breakthrough for us in popularizing our mother tongue. We look forward to doing more,” Adewale said.
Otunba Gani Adams, convener of the OPU and National coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), who expressed happiness at the development, said one of the reasons for the summit was capacity building. Adams advised the Europe chapters of the OPU to be aggressive in expanding their coasts by establishing more chapters.
He said the duty and responsibility of the European chapter should be to cover 25 countries out of the 28 in Europe.

He said the OPU can use Europe as a base to mobilise others.
Adams said at the meeting that OPU was now present in 56 countries, adding: “Protecting the image of Nigeria is important. Liaise with the embassies, the Missions of Nigeria in all the countries where you are based. They are the representatives of Nigeria out here.” Adams also implored the members of the OPU to operate with singleness of purpose, adding: “If there is no unity, nothing can be achieved. We are building the OPU for the benefit of the Yoruba. We will soon expand strongly in America.”

Yoruba language is studied in 47 American varsities

While there is no incentive for the promotion of Yoruba language and more and more native speakers of the language are losing their native tongues, American government and its citizens are ironically spending huge resources and time to gain both fluency and immersion in the languages and cultures which the natives are ditching. Assistant Editor ADEKUNLE YUSUF reports.

IT was early in the day, but the young lads were already thirsty to sip from an array of the menu that formed the business of the day. From the exultant mood boldly etched on their faces, it is obvious that they had all kept the date jealously in their diaries. They were all tenth graders, drawn from public schools in Dane Country, Madison, Wisconsin, United States (US), all eager to gain from a week-long event to make them more knowledgeable about other cultures. That was July 28, 2011, and the event, a yearly ritual, was to let students have a sip of the languages, foods and cultures of the Yoruba, Swahili, Chinese, French and Russian.

And someone will come here to rant about one Nigeria.

We're living with people who don't even know where they come from, trying too hard to claim Jews, while the Jews community denies them. We're living with nomads who don't want to enter the 21st century, with little to no education.

We're being governed by idiots like Fayose and Buhari. We live in a country where imbe.ciles like FFK call themselves leaders.

My sis, the truth is that Nigeria is only living on borrowed time, either way we want to look at it. It's like asking why the need for this particular thread afterall, if we can't live without one another? This thread is a reinforcement of our SEPARATE IDENTITY compared to the Igbos. History and the Nigerian experiment has shown that we can't live together in the same country with them -- not that we haven't tried anyway, but their domineering tendencies will never allow us be at peace with one another. We will definitely make better neighbours as separate countries coz then there'll be no need to chest-beat or heat up the polity over who rules over whom, and we'll respect each other's boundaries, something that WILL NEVER happen within 'One Nigeria', no matter the 'restructuring' -- as it stands, if all igbos decide to relocate to the SW, we Yorubas can't do shyt about it all in the name of 'One Nigeria'.

But as separate countries we'll both respect ourselves and our boundaries and will be free to deport any troublemaker in our midst without having to apologize for sending their destitutes littering our region back to Anambra or wherever they may come from.

The 'Big Three' tribes will always be at each other's throat trying to dominate one another. Nigeria has proved since independence that we all can't live as a nation. #Fact. This parasitic relationship that currently exists is not sustainable, and will only continue to breed hatred and animousity.

Yorubas are an homogeneous group of people with contiguous borders and a common origin (ile-ife). No such commonality exists amongst the 'Nigerians', which is why Nigeria has been finding it extremely difficult to truly unite as there are no real ties that bind us. All Yorubas share culture, food, dressing, language, etc in common. Again, I emphasize that such commonality and homogeneity doesn't exist amongst Nigerians in general and that's why there can't be any real unity.

This unity begging from some of our folks is just too embarrassing please. Let's even pretend, for the sake of pride, that we too can stand on our own if need be abeg. Or must the rest of Nigeria kick us out before we grow some pride as a people??

I want to expand on this down a bit more:

Why Yorubas and Nigerians are so different:

1. We're not fanatics - We believe in democracy - ability to have different perspective, if your perspective makes sense.

2. We're religiously tolerant - You can be Muslims, Christians, Traditionalist or whatever you choose. North is extremely Islam and SE is extremely Christians with some Jewish wannabes.

3. We're very dipolomatic in everything we do - sometimes this is our shortcomings.

4. We live in peace with the foreigners in our midst and with our hosts [other countries like Ghana].

5. We don't boast about our success - this is important in a free market economy.

6. We believe in Justice - If you like, be Sango, if you commit crime you go pay. There's no such thing as "our son".
