When CAS confirmed hundreds of Naf pilots and technicians were training abroad at any given time, e pain me, they must be breaking the banks to pay their allowances alone.

If not for the love affair between the CAS and president Buhari.

Infact I get pissed off but what can we do we can't stand akimbo

Helicopter Flying School Enugu could really use these simulators.

Our other problem is too much helicopter types in service. If NAF uses just 1/2 types in each helo class it'd really simplify training

Nem. Why do some jets sport parachutes why others don't? What's the essence of the chutes? To aid the quick halt of the plane of what?

Venezuelan su-30

If NAF does not fly air superiority fighters in the next 5-10 years.... well I’ll leave the rest to the oracle of Arochukwu

South America is hardly discussed on this thread.
On the other thread the south Africans sometimes mention Cuba, Namibians mention Brazil....etc
Nem isn't there any link or strategic partnership between India and South American countries?

usage of drag chutes depends on many factors

like do the fighters have air-brakes

like do the fighters have heavy duty landing brakes (design compromise with respect to avoid weight and complexity)

like do the fighter have to operate in bad weather

like do the fighter have to use different types of runways

like do the fighter experience heavy wing loading while landing

based on one or more of these factors , drag chutes r employed to provide aerodynamic resistance ie braking effect/decelerating effect.

if a fighter has air brakes and good enough landing brakes and the runway is not too short then it is good to land safely without deploying chutes.

if the runway is icy and wet , drag chutes provides additional safety and controlability while landing.

if the runway is short then chutes along with air brakes and landing gear brakes will allow it to land safely without over shooting the runway.

with high wing loads u land heavy and with high speeds therefor drag chutes can help u decelerate safely on the runway especially not too long runways

drag chutes also helps to preserve ur aircrafts brakes and extend their lives plus it helps to eliminate brake burnout/ runaway overheating which might cause accidents.

basically chutes r deployed because of design limitations of brakes (inorder to avoid weight and complexity) , runway length , runway condition (wet/slippery/snowy) , weather conditions (high cross winds) etc which i already mentioned at the beginning.

they r also used in emergency conditions like if the landing gear fails to deploy completely.

pic 1 lca air brake control surfaces opened at the rear but drag chute not deployed

pic 2 lca drag chute deployed but air brakes not opened

pic 3 su30mki both air-brake and drag chutes deployed .

in SU30 air brake also helps during combat maneuvers ie reduce speed wink

there r few posts relating to them which i posted .

india has good relations especially in economic sector.

however relations with Ecuador turned sour over the dhruv, they did not extend the maintenance contract with OEM and the helis started developing problems.

but my guys blame it on sabotage a big western corporation was behind it . anyways it was a lesson for the stupid indian company that never sign a contract without life long/extended maintenance clause .

interesting drdo Controlled Aerial Delivery System (CADS)

This system delivers the 500 kg payload material(using Ram Air Parachute duly controlled through its control lanyards) to the designated area within 100 meter CEP using GPS based Para flight control computer. The CADS 500 kg has also undergone trials at High Altitude Area like Leh, Yumthang, Sikkim and the technology has been demonstrated to the users successfully.

drdo is presently working on the similar system for 1 Ton payload capability and intends to extend it to 3-4 Ton payload

drdo Inflatable structure

Inflatable structure has been developed indigenously with an objective to serve as a shelter to provide controlled environment for effective and continuous functioning of expensive electronic and strategic systems for civil and military applications.

Inflatable structure consists of hemispherical envelope of coated fabrics with airlock tunnel, centrifugal air blowers, packaged, air conditioners, electrical control system and emergency generator.

The system is operational 24X7 and it meets the demanding high degree of reliability. High degree of reliability has been achieved using high quality components, adequate redundancy and state-of-the-art manufacturing and integration processes.

pic 1 Parachute Tactical Assault- Main (PTA-M)

Parachute Tactical Assault- Main (PTA-M) is static line deployed parachute. PTA-M is used to deploy the troopers from low altitude and to impart initial training.

pic 2 Parachute Tactical Assault- Reserve (PTA-R)

Parachute Tactical Assault- Reserve (PTA-R) is used along with PTA-M parachute. It is a manually operated parachute. PTA-R is reserve parachute used when main parachute malfunctions.

pic 3

Parachute Tactical Assault- Gajraj (PTA-G)

Parachute Tactical Assault- Gajraj is a free fall parachute used to deploy the troops from high speed aircraft like IL-76 AC.

pic 4

Combat Free Fall (CFF)

CFF system enables paratroopers to jump from an altitude from 30,000 ft. from AMSL. It is used for deep penetration in enemy territory during war time or special mission as it has glide ratio of 3.3:1, besides, Safety Devices, Navigation System, Protective Clothing, Communication System, oxygen mask, etc.

drdo Aircraft Arrester Barrier System

Aircraft Arrester Barrier System is a perfect blend of experience and technology to prevent Air Force flying losses. It offers safe and reliable arresting solutions for combat aircrafts during landing and take-off overrun.

Arrester Barrier system is available in two variants:

For 6 to 20 ton class aircraft
For 20 to 40 ton class aircraft

@Vikkie14

u use these when everything fails brakes, chutes, control surfaces etc

Thanks for the clarification. I learnt something new. I actually thought what you called Air Brake on that Su30 and the F16 is some kind of "canard". cheesy

Arochukwu means Spear of God. Its an ancient town in Abia State largely Christian and little Traditional worshipers

The reason for its fame is largely
-The mysterious Ibini Ukpabi shrine( even the Brits named it Long Juju grin) where defaulters used to go and never return
- The slave routes of old

I wouldn’t have been able to mystify my explanation in this manner, a good Nollywood director should jump on this immediately.
