I feel your pain, that's the longest category. At least you're not from the Philippines or Mexico.

When is your priority date?

I am on the f4 category. on the september buletin I found 01Jan02

For F2b category, they are working on applications submitted before 01Nov2010, so that's a 7 year plus wait.

I would advice your fiancée file for you as that is quicker. I assume he/she is a citizen? If yes you can get a green card within a year after you are married. You will have to apply for a fiancée visa first and then get married before you can apply for a green card.

If your fiancée is a green card holder then you will fall under the f2a category which is about a 2 year plus wait.

The link below is to the visa bulletin released by the US dept of state and shows what dates they are working on for each category.

Technically that's wrong, only a us citizen can file a fiance visa aka k1, a green card holder cant do that

You are correct thanks, I forgot to clarify that when I wrote about the f2a category.

I have edited the post.

I meant what's your priory date i.e. The date USCIS confirmed they received your immigrant application.

Note if your fiancée is a green card holder you are not able to apply for a fiancée visa, you will have to wait till you are married to submit your application and get a priorty number assigned.

Another advantage of the fiancée visa is you will be able to remain in the US while you process your green card as opposed to having to wait in a nigeria, but note you are expected to get married within 90 days on a fiancée visa.

The US visa availability runs on the US govt fiscal year from October, so they tend to run out of visas as they approach October hence why the priority dates tend to slow down or even stop moving sometimes.

You should be able to get your visa in october as I assume it has been approved. Would be worthwhile reaching out to them in October if you don't hear from them.

My case is presently at the nvc, f3 category. I was applied for f1 but got married while awaiting to be current. Now I've gotten a letter to begin processing. My question is am about to renew my passport, do I continue with my maiden name as written on filed on my letter or should I use my married name on the passport.?
Also I added my kids name after I logged in on my caec account, i scanned and uploaded their birth certificate (5yrs and 3yr old). Please how long will it take nvc to review the kids case and what are the chances that it will be approved because it is not possible for me and my husband to leave Nigeria without our babies. Thanks

slightlyMad:

you've got 5years to wait sweetie, plus or minus 1 year for the irregularities in the monthly movements.
you need to take your mind off it and continue living your life till you get an email from NVC in roughly 2021
what of your parent? are they alive?

your US citizen sibling chose the slow path. He should have gotten any of dad or mom their greencards FIRST, since they are immediate relatives,
they wont have to wait. once USCIS approves their petition, they get interviewed right away and become LPRs once they enter US.

then your LPR parent file for you which would have put you in (F2A) , you would have gotten your interview in June 2010 if Nov 2007 is still your priority date

Also note that your sister or brother sponsoring you must stay alive, or it will all be gone.

Your calculations were right.
Interview in May 2022
6 years after.
Respect
