Hi Guy,

Just wanted to raise an alarm about a self acclaimed vet doctor that sells exotic dog breeds. Like American Bully etc.

He calls himself Mr Bakare (of course this is not his real name)

He claims to live in Jos

And operate under a business name called Petlove

I contacted him on olx

Well, his phone numbers are 09063206244, 0708 586 5022 and 0803 327 6679

He collected the sum of N56,000 from us as part payment towards the delivery of a bull terrier. After collecting the money , He became unreachable.

I have attached his bank account details amongst other details of the rogue vet doctor.

Kindly deal with caution when dealing with people online. And let's show these kind of people that they have no place here on Nairaland Pets.

I don't understand why people still fall for such scam.. Olx and are all scammers haven. It's even displayed on jiji that you shouldn't send money before delivery or for part payment for any goods you haven't received. Op sorry for your loss

not everyone on OLX is a scam because I bought some of my dogs there, what you should say is always pay at delivery in anything you are buying online. OLX, nairaland or anywhere.

@Martel thanks for the comment. What really happened was, I believed he was in Jos. He didn't want to part with his dog without some form of commitment, so we decided to meet ourselves halfway. So I paid that much. And after collecting the dog, he would receive his balance. I knew it was a risk. I dec I decided to take it anyway.

But really guys, I've seen some post that I now regard as suspicious even on Nairaland. Someone mentioned he has Rottweiler puppies and his is based in Enugu. He also mentioned he can deliver anywhere in his post. Just like my scammer (lolz )said . How do people deal with them? Just wondering.

As for me, I'm applying the lesson I've learnt on daily basis now even in my business, no more , "I trust you " these are the goods, this is money. That's what I do now. And somehow, I'm grateful to have learnt that lesson.

Back to my question, how do you buy things online when the seller is based in 4 or 5 states away?

The answer to your question is (in relation to dog transactions). Send someone close to that state to verify if you don't a reputable breeder to confirm if he/she knows the seller. If non of these is possible, DO NOT BUY.

There's actually the real petlove business in Jos owned by one similar name. He's not a vet though but a stakeholder in the industry cheesy

Sorry about your loss. cry

I am really thinking of setting up an escrow for these kind of transactions. embarassed

Kovu has said it all. Notice that most adverts are placed from certain regions so when buying an item or animal always go to the nearest region close to you, find the goods you want then contact the seller. Most times if you tell a seller you're in the same state he is he'll give one excuse that he's not there at the moment and all that, this particular excuse is a dead giveaway and you should run for your money. Here's what I do, when I find an advert that's not close to me like I'm in owerri and the advert is in Abuja or Lagos, I'll contact the seller and ask to see pictures of puppies first then parents then vet card and every other necessary thing, a genuine breeder won't have problems sending all these documents across only a scammer will find excuses. I'll give my location first and observe his next reply. A legitimate seller will be concerned when you're not close to him because sending an item across to another state means more stress on him. A scammer will tell you he delivers even to Ghana or cotonou.
If he gives a location far from you tell him you don't mind travelling over to his state to inspect and pay, any seller won't mind this so keep the communication and tell him to send you directions. Call him the next morning and tell him you're about getting on a bus and you'll call him when you get to the park so you can meet and transact. Try to call after and hour and see if he'll pick grin grin Immediately scammers hear bus or car they'll try to get cunning and change locations or they'll stop picking entirely.

Also beware of anyone that says you should send half payment. I can't even try that,if you're in lagos you either send someone down with full payment or you find an advert from your state.

@Kovu, your submission is just so on point DO NOT BUY. Thanks

@Akaraiwe, an escrow is an excellent idea, I thought of someone who could be a middle man between us but could not find any. So if you could actually come up with the escrow idea, it will really help online dog businesses

@Namdeenero, infact, I'm in awe of your recommendations. I should have had those recommendations before engaging with the scammer. I've learnt my leson and now I know better. The best thing is to deal with sellers in one's state. Really
