Th words of HALIMA ABUBAKAR (actress in Nollywood), RUKKY SANDA (Actress in Nollywood), and NORBERT YOUNG (Actor in Nollywood) , AZUH AMATUS (Actor in Nollywood), UCHE JUMBO (Actress in Nollywood).

Even your own Kunle Afolayan attested during his apology for blaming Igbo for piracy that there are more igbo movies out there (PRODUCERS or whatever the heck he is in Nollywood)

AZUH AMATUS

Attached in a book by Johnathan Haynes titled Nollywood: The Creation of Nigerian Film Genres written in 2016. Written AFTER several years of direct engagement with people in that industry.

Yeah I'll believe the people in the people in the industry as well as an author who interacted and asked several people in the industry over your pathetic attemp to claim attachment.

In the words of the people in the industry actors and actresses, marketers and distributors, filmmakers, film writers, etc. Infact go and tell Halima abubakar and Azuh Amatus to stop lying on AGN which is the Actors Guild of Nigeria, which is the group that control that industry, as being predominately Igbo. Inform them to stop lying ooo grin grin grin grin grin

Let me say it one more time. Go and make your Afonja speaking movie industry something to marvel at. Maybe then, you won't be pitifully trying to attach by force. I spoke my own.

You've been crying throughout this page. I directed you to exactly the people in that industry to wail to.

Is that so. Yes your stanch is on 38 movies that is theater based and discluding the most aspect of the movie industry aka the DVD sales as well as the reason we are arguing this aka it's international sales and focus on the theater. grin grin grin grin grin

In addition, crying about old glory because the words of the people in that industry isn't the same as your attempt to attach like your afonja tribe is known to do.

Secondly: so you telling me a man that went to live in Nigeria in year 1991 to study that nation's movie industry and have been in there studying it's movie industry since then and have worked tremendously with the people in the industry as well as monitored the progression of the industry for more years to count is clueless on WTF he is saying. Na so you dey say? Shame no dey your body?

Let me ask one question. Afonja you dominate yoruba speaking industry. Why is it currently still unpopular and unknown despite years of it's production by you people? If you had a hand in the English speaking progress why is your language speaking movie industry have yet to break outside of your South West Region despite several years of it's existence eeh?

Yes you do especially when it's coming from the WORDS OF THE PEOPLE IN THE INDUSTRY IN QUESTION.

Who is best to know exactly who or what dominate that industry other than the people that is actually in the industry?

You asked me to give you the list of the gross producing movies. I did just that and informed you it is might desperate to try and attach using a list of movies added together in an industry that produces quantity of movies per year. Equally informed you it is desperate to try and use a figure that did not include the major aspect of that movie industry and only focused on movie theater which is the minor part of that industry considering majority of it's movies are direct DVD sales, not theater. You dismissed all that because you pathetically wish to be part of what you are not.

Therefore I resorted to speaking on the actors whom have spoke exactly on what we talking about. Once more in your pathetic attempt to attach, you dismiss them as "old glory" completely forgetting all mentioned are new actors and actress excluding one.

In addition quoted an unbiased individual who has been monitoring/studying that industry for more 20 years. Yet again you dismissed him and his book because it does not correlate with your delusions.

Like I said before, if Yoruba had a hand in English speaking nollywood progression, that would have equally been witnessed in your yoruba speaking movie industry despite several years of its existence. The fact I'm seeing Igbo speaking movies up here in america yet it restarted few years ago says alot. Likewise your culture would have dominated the plot of the english speaking industry and till date, it has not!!! Go make yourself relevant so you don't have to attach

I'm going to quote hayes one more time due to being unbiased in this and his been studying it for 25 years before writing his book.

Re: b by laribari(m): 7:39pm On Aug 26, 2017
I share this sentiment too that this fight is based on crude oil. I sat down and reasoned it deeply. Normally, the way this agitation has gone shows the people at the fore front who want this referendum more are the igbos. If oil happens to be in the igbo land they will not involve cross river, rivers, bayelsa etc. They will go on their own.

In one of kanu's interview he was speaking to an Iranian and said "we have oil, we have gas, we have this an that". That line struck my heart and I just said to myself that now I understand.

If biafra comes today, Enugu will be the capital and all the oil wealth will go to the igbo land just like Lagos (former capital) and Abuja. Secondly, why biafra really wanna leave is becos they believe that with oil money they can develop so fast. Nobody will leave empty handed and wish to leave. Biafra want to leave with our national wealth and that's where the problem is.

These greedy politicians will NEVER sign referendum which is like happily handing oil to the east, so it will never happen. Those who say they will get biafra by war should brace up, but sey you want a referendum, that will not happen in this life time.

This fight is all about wealth and crude oil but I pray that this oil should finish self.

Your dumbass. It's easier to monitor the theater sales over the sales of DVD and video streaming as the sales of tickets is easier to attest that sales of the two which spread across several middle men. That's why movie industry worldwide counts theater sales predominately over dvd sales. Nollywood on the other hand is a DVD and video streaming industry than Theater as most Nigerian movies are immediately distributed as DVD without touching the theater. Using theater sales to mointor the industry is one of the stupidest thing one person can do.

Again who is better to know wtf is going on in an industry over the people in that f2king industry. Heck even ALEX OSIFO (an old, being in the industry for years, veteran author) actually stated the same thing the young ones said. In one of his interview where he spoke of Yoruba movie industry. He stated and I "despite Yoruba movie industry being in existence before the Nigerian English films produced by the Igbos, the Yoruba movie industry has not been able to matched their English counterpart."

Between you and Trump who would know more about what's going on in his administration? Not you
Between you, Halle Berry, Lupita Nyong'o, Jim Kerry, Angelina Jolie, Mike Epps, Meghan Fox, etc who would know more what's going in Hollywood? Not you
Between you, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z, Lil Wayne, 2 chains, Future, etc who would know more about what's going on in the Rap industry of Hollywood? Not you
Like wise between you, Uche Jombo, Halimar Abubakar, etc who would know more about what's going on in Nollywood? Not you.

Really? Have you even clicked on any of the threads on NL created about Yoruba actors and actresses? What do you notice each time you check on one? Either people are asking who the Bleep they are (this are people in the country where they hail from and their movies are produced and sold) and/or it's empty as hell. Heck only that edo lady (Mercy) that plays in your industry seems to get the most views whenever a topic is made on her. If people in your country that aren't one of you are clueless on who the authors in your own industry are aka unpopular, tell your story to someone who would believe you.
Even one of your author, Funsho Adeolu, made the comment " “There is no big money in Yoruba movies but I have realized that they are after knowledge, even though they are not as read as the English people.” Even one of your own, Abiodun Koya, who is supposedly well known in UK even stated that Yoruba movies turn her off due to how bad it is. Likewise even Uche jombo mentioned it is an unpopular industry in that movie industry.

Dominance are the amount of people in the industry and movies creating per day which gross income a day, not amount of limited movies that made the theater.

38 movies out of 3 years did not make Nollywood a fastest growing industry no matter how much desperate you wish it was. grin grin grin grin grin

Quoting the non biased man one more time whose been watching the industry for approximately 25 years till his book was released.

Not only do Igbo dominate Nollywood, they also dominate AGN as said by actors and actresses in the industry.

Go cry to the people in the industry and go make your Yoruba movies into a profitable business so you'll have somethign to be proud of and not leeching into an industry you are irrelevant in.

Answer my question:

What does this exact word

'Revenues from special screenings, DVD sales, online streaming and theatrical screenings outside Nigeria are excluded from this gross total." mean to you

And how in your stupidity that is talking about director, producers and DVD hawkers.

Tell exactly what did your brain understand from the highlighted.
Oga use your head nah!
Movies travels and flies but do influence and popularity of a movie industry is determined by it content and story line.

What's the fuss about the sales and distribution network. Go to newyork,uk et al there are hundreds of nigeria, yoruba, ibo nollywood movies distributors grin

And besides, since 'dominance ' is all about the cross-income like you stated and not quantities but qualities you will do well by providing numbers yourself, the quantity and the cross-income, shouldn't you.
Re: b by julietm123: 8:41pm On Aug 26, 2017
yorubas actors hold it down in Nollywood grin grin grin how laughable hahahaha.
totit:
Why should we bother whether yoruba nollywood is know worldwide or not when we already hold it down in English nollywoodz, does that make sense at allhuh

Well grin your dusty articles is dated to 2008 abeg.

Why not let's consider your first wiki link that states yoruba English nollywood producers, actors and directors dominate. Why dug up old stuffs grin

O, what of these high raking nollywood nigeria movies under yoruba movie producers,director.. that made it round the world, i.e, half of the yellow sun,30 Days in Atlanta,The CEO et al huh grin

Ofcourse you hatred and jealous towards yoruba tribe won't let you confess nor see that nah
To top it all, anybody could have wrote that article base on the reality or oral information available as at then. God knows where you dug that old article from. But I am sure it's as old as my black bombom sef
Yeye dey smell grin

On your post, the movies emerged together from 2008-2015. 38 movies for a industry that produced and directed 1844 movies in 2013 ALONE and 50 movies PER WEEK

And in 2014, the Nigerian government released data for the first time showing Nollywood is a $3.3 billion sector, with 1844 movies produced in 2013 alone.
The Nigerian film industry, also known as Nollywood, produces about 50 movies per week,

With majority of it's sales from DVD sales
he films are produced within a month and are profitable within two to three weeks of release. Most DVD movies easily sell more than 20,000 units, while the most successful ones sell over 200,000.
Most of it's movies goes directly to DVD sales
These films are created for a price range starting from $10,000 or below, and are later placed directly onto DVDs to be sold by movie hubs and hawkers in the street.

She came out to say how up and coming actresses who are gifted but are not being allowed to prove themselves in the industry due to the high level tribalism of the Igbos who control the industry and are now making themselves lords over others.
Read her statements below
Halima Abukakar

Interestin 2 see any1 in nollywood insult igbos abt piracy since without THEM we might nt even hv Nollywood of today#piracyIsNotATribalThing
Uche Jombo

there’s no Nollywood but ‘Igbowood‘.I have said somewhere that it should be called Igbowood just like you have Yorubawood and Hausawood. It is not Nollywood if Nollywood represents Nigeria,” Young said.
Norbet Young

“But I think this is uncalled for because I have been given roles several times and later rejected simply because I’m of the Yoruba stock. I think that is really wrong. People don’t have to be rejected because of their tribes. This has really affected me,” she lamented.
Rukky Sanda

It argues that Nollywood is the English adaptation of the Igbo filmic industry and as such situate Nollywood’s dominant filmic culture to Igbo ethnic extraction of Nigeria.
Okwuowulu Charles

This is because Igbo producers take to English language films in quest for wider viewers unlike their Yoruba and Hausa counterparts who still stick to indigenous language films. This English language category of films is mainly referred to as Nollywood films. It is this English language films mainly produce by Igbos that defines Nollywood.
Charles

Film generally regarded as Nollywood films are produced in English language. Because of the indifferent attitude of Igbos to their indigenous language and the quest to reach wider viewers Igbo producers take to English language films. These English films which replicate the Igbo culture influences Nollywood tremendously. Thus, Nollywood films project Igbo culture more than any other ethnic group in Nigeria.
The AGN is dominated and manipulated by the English speaking actors who are mostly from the Igbo tribe while the non-English speaking actors belong to another professional body.
Amatus

despite Yoruba movie industry being in existence before the Nigerian English films produced by the Igbos, the Yoruba movie industry has not been able to matched their English counterpart.
Alex Osifo

Someone help this idiot translate what's written up there in Yoruba.

While doing that, help me ask am to tell us how 38 movies (that spanned several years) were the movies that grossed 3.3 billion dollars in 2013 alone. Likewise help the clown understand what this exact statement mean " Revenues from special screenings, DVD sales, online streaming and theatrical screenings outside Nigeria are excluded from this gross total." Means grin grin grin grin grin

Let me make it easy for you

Nollywood is an industry which majority of it's movie produced are NOT theater released. Majority of that industry's incomes comes from, drum roll please DVD SALES AND VIDEO STREAMING.

Now when those sales are excluded, then whatever provided is completely irrelevant.
Especially since this argument is what made Nollywood progress past Nigeria shores and the sales for that is also excluded.

Go back to school, Learn English because English is not your forte.
Re: b by julietm123: 9:00pm On Aug 26, 2017
He/she is just arguing blindly. She doesn't know that more than 90%of Nigerians have never been to the cinema. Most Nigerians watch these movies on DVD or some other informal way grin.
Nonaira1:

If people within that industry stated all that about it, who the Bleep you think you trying to fool.
