I disagree.

Evans didn't need any association to encourage him.

Criminals don't play by same rules.

Nothing is foolproof but my disdain is reserved for those that sits idly but expects change.
You are actually on point here, the other home owners l met were also mooting the idea for other home owners to come together and brainstorm on the idea of going through the proper legal channels to own licensed firearms, I think they will eventually do it.

Instead of calling police you'll activate your own siren and start calling other members.

Enough of the political stuff, Lets look at different ways to combine the aluminum window with the burglary proof, this is for learning purposes only.

Picture 1. I got an aluminum pipe sample which is thick enough to serve as a good barrier that keeps intruders out
Picture 2. Trying to compare between the aluminum pipe, a 3/4 galvanized pipe and a 1" galvanized rod to compare the thickness, the aluminum wins.
Picture 3. I thought I am a strong ma, but all my attempts to bend this pipe was in vain.
Picture 4. The window after we fitted the pipes.

WHAT ABOUT SAWABILITY?...people use the y16 reinforced rods cos they are difficult to cut tru with a saw or other common cutting tools, am certain that aluminuin will cut like biscuit.

My move to Nigeria is a calculated and deliberate one. I'm leaving nothing to chance.

This is what they do in Brazil.

Also how much are two Innoson pickup trucks in police regalia (I just learnt that civilians can actually buy this for escort) and pay 5 off duty policemen to patrol at night. I mean from the point of view of multi neighborhood association.

My Dogs will never be tied down but kept in a dog run that they can ultimately escape from if duty really calls.

There's a 100x5 foot section fir the dogs.

They'll be trained to be passive aggressive.

Neighbourhood watch is good and owning license fire arms of whatever nature is good but you should be rest assured that your fellow neighbours have the liver to counter intruders in that area with such things.

It is not about fear, how do you expect me to walk into a house with fiery looking unrestrained German Shepherd? I'm not ready to be a lunch or dinner to hungry German Shepherds lol, so it is wise to have them locked up after my visit to his house he can release them, the dogs only recognize him and his household other than that, nobody dares go inside when those dogs are released wink
lol...that's better

Oh l see, it seems you got everything figured out already, l like your ideas and they don't look too cumbersome, once you get like minded people to buy into the vision it will be great, some people just need to see workable, practical and not too expensive ideas and they will key into it, if I am your neighbor at ibadan, I will be the first to sign up with this your noble ideas, why should I build a house worth millions of Naira and I can't spend fractions of that amount to secure myself, your ideas are possible, doable and workable, you are making me to think of owning one small apartment within your axis at ibadan, even if l don't live in it, I will rent it out as a service apartment , I like your ideas cool

Neighbors will be more than happy to get involved, security of lives and properties is vital to all humans, like I responded to EgunMogaji, once neighbors see the practical workability of the ideas, they will key into it, every human wants to be able to sleep in peace at Night, since we pretty much have a comatose security in Nigeria, anything that will provide safety and security to home owners will be appreciated even if some people are reluctant initially, once they see the larger picture and the overall benefits, they will align with it smiley

Where can one get well trained German Shepherd, Rottweiler and pitbull in Lagos? I need three dogs to signify deterrence.

How can one bring dogs into the country?

Generally, if a building has columns, the walls themselves are no longer load bearing. Imagine the following for a 10-storey building: you put up columns, then slab, then columns on the that slab, then slab again. Technically you can reach the 10th storey without placing a single block, and the structure will stand. Then you can start laying blocks, and ideally the lighter/smaller, the better.

For bungalows, I've seen "columns" improvised with 9" blocks filled with cement. Sure it's a little stronger than the blocks without cement, but I feel this un-reinforced column is just a placebo (as in, it's a feel good with no real benefit) because any sheer will cause a collapse since there's no steel to keep concrete in tension.

They will of course.

Desperate situations demand desperate measures.

Some 8 year olds are already accomplished shooters here.

I don't know why we can't carry firearms in Nigeria. I'm currently at my mechanic place and everyone here have firearms in their holsters.

It's truly sad and very frustrating for me personally.

A lot of these brazen robberies and Omo onile palava will disappear overnight. Or greatly reduced.

"A home builder, Garcia said he built this place, like all the houses he builds, "above code" -- stronger than the standards required by law, which in Texas tends to be less than in most states. But he doesn’t think those tougher standards should be imposed on every builder."

Some food for thought.

Hahaha, they have several good places you can get a good breed, peruse the pet section on Nairaland and see for yourself, l will definitely get some Dogs on my properties in lagos, I think bringing it in from the West might be expensive, chai, l like the pictures of this once you posted, If I have 4 of those on my properties with other layers of security been suggested by EgunMogaji, I will get drunk with Russian vodkas mixed with ice cubes or Hennessey every night, let me see the useless criminal that will near my house wink

You can carry government approved firearms via application to the police authorities but I don't think you will be allowed to carry sophisticated weapons, the police will tell you the once you can legally carry but I would have preferred to carry those types the US Marines used in smoking out Osama bin laden grin

Thanks, Dude.

I know Dogs, well-trained Dogs, work very well for home safety.

This is a classic example of why Dogs should never be chained down. Let them be well trained and then run patrol in the yard. You never know when they'll need to pounce into action.

Back, front.............

But what about safety? How can we modify this so we can have a quick escape latch on it? Supposing we need to escape the building in an emergency?

I am sorry to tell you man, you can't have it both ways.. The only thing you could do is to keep a chain saw by the side of the windows in case of emergency.

Good day my learned colleagues, My questions are of 2 parts:

1. How do you guys cost painting of your building? Is it per paint gallon or per day spend on the job or per labour involve ?
2. Can we have honest review of the following mid-range paints? namely, finecoat, shield, eagle, value, superior, prestige, princess, president et al. In terms of longevity for both harsh internal and external environment.

Responsible gun owners seldom abuse the right.

Please try to get some education on these. For example the price of firearms when ordered legally, the required training before issuance of a permit.

My cheapest pistol is $700, many are over $1,000.

But then I am just thinking aloud.
