Coach Hugo Broos has given up qualifying Cameroon for Russia 2018 World Cup, after his team suffered a 4-0 loss to Nigeria, their worst defeat in Africa since winning the 2017 AFCON in Gabon.

Speaking in a post match briefing at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium yesterday, he concluded that the second match against Nigeria on Monday was of no importance again..

“We have just 2 points with Nigeria at 9 points. That means we have to win the remaining 3 matches and Nigeria lose three. It is not possible. We are out of the race.”

The coach said Nigeria players were better. “They were better, faster and more determined. They deserved their victory,”

Coach Broos said he was not under any pressure because the battle has been lost and he conceded that Nigeria deserved the leadership of the group.

“We came up strongly in the first 20 minutes and the Eagles were able to contain us. They scored two goals in the first half and when after another strong start in the second half, they scored their third goal, we were disorganised and lost the fighting power.”
