Russia 2018: Nigeria play draw with Cameroon, move closer to World Cup qualification The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon forced a 1-1 draw against the Super Eagles in Monday’s second leg World Cup qualifying match played at the Stade Omnisports Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaoundé. Having been beaten 4-0 in the reverse fixture last Friday in Uyo, it was expected that the Lions will come out roaring against the Eagles. Though that was the case, it was still the Eagles that drew the first blood through Moses Simon who was on target in the 30th minute. The Nigeria team had a handful of other chances to extend their lead but were unable to do so. With Cameroon continually pressing for an equaliser, their persistence paid off in the 75th minute when they were awarded what looked like a soft penalty. Vincent Aboubakar who came off the bench held his nerve to convert the spot kick to make the score 1-1. Though both sides attempted to get a late winner, with Cameroon coming the closest, it was not to be as the game ended in stalemate. Despite the draw, the Super Eagles are still top of their qualifying group with 10 points from four matches, while Cameroon remain third with three points. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/242360-russia-2018-nigeria-play-draw-cameroon-move-closer-world-cup-qualification.html |

Zambia defeated Algeria 1-0 in a 2018 World Cup qualifier played in Stade Mohamed-Hamlaoui in Constantine on Tuesday night. Patson Daka scored the winner in the 67th minute of the game, as the Chipolopolo completed the double over the North Africans within a space of four days. The result means that Zambia remains second in the Group B of the African qualifying zone with seven points and are only three points behind leaders, Nigeria. They will now battle the Super Eagles for the sole ticket in the group. Their next fixture is against the Eagles on October 7 in Nigeria. http://dailypost.ng/2017/09/05/algeria-vs-zambia-chipolopolo-close-gap-nigeria-1-0-victory/

all nigeria needs is atleast a point against zambia and we are thro on head to head rule. other than that, a 2 goal margin loss to zambia means our destiny isnt in our hands again. |

2018 World Cup: Nigeria, Zambia hopes of qualifying down to goal difference, head-to-head Nigeria is still in pole position to qualify for the 2018 World Cup despite Zambia’s shock 1-0 victory in Algeria on Tuesday. The result, however, keeps Chipolopolo in the race to be in Russia, with Cameroon and Algeria out of the running. Zambia has seven points, three behind Nigeria, who also has a superior goals difference of 5. The two teams will square off in what would be a potentially decisive affair in Uyo, Akwa Ibom. A straight win, will see Gernot Rohr’s men qualify with one game left. While a draw, could still leave room for Zambia to clinch the ticket, especially as they host Cameroon in the last round of qualifying games. Former Media Officer of the Super Eagles, Colin Udoh, has now explained CAF’s priority on how they will sort out that situation, especially if the Eagles lose and Chipolpolo close up the goals difference. He tweeted: “FT: Algeria 0-1 Zambia. Algeria officially out of the World Cup. Zambia need to win in Uyo in October.” Responding to an inquiry, Udoh stated: “It’s GD, not head to head,” adding that “It’s goals difference first”. http://dailypost.ng/2017/09/06/2018-world-cup-nigeria-zambia-hopes-qualifying-goal-difference-head-head/ |
